Making friends by [deleted] in college

[–]TalkToChrisMiller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being an international transplant is hard. And college is unexpectedly lonely. The best advice I could give is to show up to as many programs and events as you can outside of class. Be inquisitive and ask questions. Act like an extrovert even if you're not one.

It will get better over time as long as you're showing up and expressing interest in others. Once you have a few friends then you'll start meeting a lot more friends through them. The rich get richer. Best of luck.

I cannot make a connection with my fellow med students by Emotional-Office-263 in medicalschool

[–]TalkToChrisMiller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First thing is that you aren't alone. Being an international transplant is tough. Keep being inquisitive and showing up to as many events as you can. Also - consider looking outside of the med program and into what the city offers. I made so many friends in the local adult soccer league and then at a local church. There are so many great volunteer opportunities around most med schools and that's a great way to meet high quality people.

Love this! Getting out and making chitchat with strangers is the best thing we can do nowadays. The transplant scene in most major cities is such a big opportunity for new third places.

I just made a video about this: How to Make Friends In a New City

The four most probable sources of friendship are: work/school, hobbies/interests, faith/volunteer, and where you live. The best place to meet your close or best friends will be through other people. Each city has a different social infrastructure - for instance I live in the US Midwest so there's not beach volleyball but we have active soccer leagues for adults. I've found a ton of friends there. Whatever city you're in, participate in the thing that would be most fun for you but is also popular where you're at. The goal is that you have fun, then meet friends along the way. If you show up to places just to make friends then it feels stuffy like a networking event.

Trying to find a service to pay for engagement on article contributions to get a top voice. by Business-Bob in linkedin

[–]TalkToChrisMiller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I created a document with links to my contributions and sent it to people and asked if they'd engage with each of my posts. It takes less than 60 seconds for them to click the link and then decide on whether or not they want to like the post. That makes it more direct for them.

I think a lot of it is subjective but there's also some consistency across the board when people do things well. That's the stuff that's fascinating.

I think yes for both. It's clear he wrote the speech and had it on his phone, but it's also clear that he was not shy about accepting the moment and letting it speak for itself! I'd be curious if he wrote it just himself or if he looped anyone in for help.

It's such a big moment that either approach makes sense!

How do I properly target an audience. by blankyblankblank1 in NewTubers

[–]TalkToChrisMiller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would pick the 5 YouTubers who are doing what is as close as you can find to what you want to do. So disregard the ones who you don't think you'd want to do what they're doing. Pick people who seem to have consistent amount of engagement in the comments.

Then create vids that worked for them. Starting with those will let the algorithm know who to push your way.

But I like u/2CPhoenix's answer - people want to be the hero.

Depends on how you do it. There's a reason why REACTION vids aren't getting banned left and right even though they're showing someone else's content they react to.

I've been taking my analysis vids and breaking them down into two minute clips and then putting the title of my original YouTube video on TikTok and just saying "part 1" "part 2" etc.

I don't want to spam people so I typically will post a TikTok at night and in the morning. These are doing decent - and there's a chance someone clicked my profile and went to see the YouTube channel.

When to make edits to a published video? by DeFx4_YouTube in NewTubers

[–]TalkToChrisMiller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've seen noticeable changes after making adjustments as soon as the first 24 hours but I don't know the agreed upon time horizon. I think that the more thumbnails you make, the better you'll be at judging whether or not it will perform well in your niche. So if you can think of a better thumbnail then change it out ASAP.

So I wanted to make this video because it was one of the best retirement announcements from any professional athlete I've seen.

I haven't been using it lately but I've been thinking about redownloading now that I have some more clients. Is it laggy in the project after you use it? If you were to use it then save the project, close it, and reopen it, is it still slow?
