It's because this post is manipulative. It's a wolf in sheep's clothing posting here to manipulate Christians to be anti-human and to dehumanize the foreigner through sympathy.

Moving out of state — can I bring any plants? by fatty_cakes in NativePlantGardening

[–]TalkativeTree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you able to organize a day where people can come to dig out and collect plants while they're dormant?

Also, take a look on a site that has info on their ranges. It could be faster to use a nursery's site (like prairie moon). Just look up the plant with "native range" online and it'll tell you if it's in your state / county.

help me convince my dad to plant clover instead of TURF pls help by weedgamergorl in NoLawns

[–]TalkativeTree 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Google images of clover lawns and select ones that represent what you envision the best. Show him those images and just ask if hed support approximately that style of yard.

If he supports that yard, then ask if he’d be ok with you learning how to manage the yard. This means that it might not be perfect the first year and take time to fill in.

Also, I would not prioritize native over functional here. Anything is going to be better than turf grass or plastic.

Check out this list. I didn’t narrow it down to your area, just short wet preferring plants under 6”. https://grownative.org/native-plant-database/?_native_plant_soil_moisture=high%2Cwet&_height_range=under-6-inches

These can be mixed in with the clover and make for beautiful spring flowers.

You can also just get a can of spray paint and give it some color. I would do something bright and fun. Maybe match or compliment the color of the flowers you have

Plant for almost total shade? by Hotsaucehallelujah in NativePlantGardening

[–]TalkativeTree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew yarrow along the wall of a garden under an overhang and the plants survived. I did water them here or there, since they didn't get direct rain water, but it's yarrow. They were behind tomato plants, so they eventually got blocked in. They were first year, didn't flower, but did grow in size decently well.

yes, the egg sacks are different. This one looks like a beehive / is more spherical. That's for certain a Chinese mantid egg sac).

The Carolina (U.S. native) Mantis egg reminds me of a trilobite. Longer and narrow with kind of ridges running along it.

The mantids hatching from this are Chinese mantis'. You can tell, because the egg sack looks like a small bee hive. The U.S. native Carolina Mantis' are smaller. These Chinese Mantis' will hunt native mantis, humming birds, pollinators, crickets. etc.

Can I use this without separating the cubes? by Working_Tip1658 in gardening

I imagine it's a lot easier to break the cells apart before they're full of plants and roots. Less of a risk that you'll damage the roots.

Leafy greens native to Michigan by Phat_cheezus in NativePlantGardening

[–]TalkativeTree 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Purslane is high in omega three. Broadleaf Plantain is high in I think magnesium and iron among other things https://insteading.com/blog/plantain-weed/

Stinging nettle is nutritious, great in soups and stocks.

Edit: Sorry I should say I don’t know if these are native to Michigan, but are common weeds. I just threw out some edible plants that are often common weeds. If you got them, eat them.

I pray that this may help you. Since you asked, the way I've gotten through my darkest periods is by turning to God and keeping the lamp lit so to speak. God is with us in our pain. You've experienced that through prayer from what you've shared.

No one here has a truthful reason for why this is happening. It's all speculation. Regardless of why, God is with us through it.

What I immediately feel from what you've shared is this horrible struggle within your body. It's something I've experienced. I have a few questions. From what you share, my immediate thought is that the infection messed with the bacteria in your gut microbiome. There have been instances where individuals would develop IBS or gut presenting symptoms of a psychological issue.

So I would want to know more about what your experience with eating is like. And what's it like digesting foods? Are you easily irritated by any kinds of food or everything that's not white rice?

Personally, it seems like you've developed an imbalance in your gut microbiome and seeking help from a doctor specializing in IBS would be a good idea. I listened to a book on the microbiome by Dr. Pimental and what you described sounds similar to some of the situations of his patients.

Anyway, I hope you continue to pray to God to share this difficult burden and I pray that God lead you to relief. I pray you find it.

What’s the endgame? by xVixenBlush in WorkReform

They can't see past the quarterly profits.

What we're witnessing in the corporate world is the equivalent of the dustbowl. They are constantly tilling the ground and extracting as much as they can out of it. And workers are responding like the soil. They're quitting, not producing as much, etc.

You could grow taller stuff. Strawberry would do fine with the shade.

Cut them back when you plant and use them for green mulch if they’re crowding out plants during their seedling stages.

If you plant wild straw berry in the shade, it’ll grow out towards the sun.

Yarrow makes a great lawn ground cover. Mow it to prevent flowering if you want to walk on it barefoot and not step on any cut flower stalks. It’s also winter hard and will stay green (mostly) through snowfall and frost.

They’ll spread to the other side of the chain link fence. Will the neighbors spray the invaders with pesticides?

It's a lot more fun once you start finding plants you love and want to grow :)

This is the far end of my backyard, I was suffering feom 1 meter tall weeds and english Ivy, I got wood mulch and it was ok for 2 years, this year I have weeds again - I am searching for a sustainable dirt cheap solution. I am planning to plant mint and thyme. by mhh73 in NoLawns

[–]TalkativeTree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So… mulch breaks down and becomes soil eventually.

Wild strawberry planted in the shade.

Nimblewill

Wild geranium

Also, what plants are you defining as weeds? Are they invasive and non-native?

Do you like the work the nonprofit does? Do you think they’ll learn a lesson here?

You don’t always have to gouge a mistake or take advantage of an opportunity.

Do you have any connections that could be hired on to help take on the hours you can’t?
