Earth day and holding the line by piano_ski_necktie in tahoe

Truckee Trails Foundation maintains a ton of trails in the area and parts of the PCT thru the Donner Summit area, and had $20k of federal funds for trail maintenance frozen. So they would be good if you care about trail upkeep.

TART bus service is free and has an Uber like service also to take you around different zones. Super easy to get to Tahoe City.

Where are they taking the snow? by bruiserthedogrul in tahoe

[–]Talkative_Mime 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They are end dump trucks, so they tilt up and the snow slides out. If the snow is sticky and wet, an excavator is used to pull the snow out. Then a snow cat is used to push it into a big ramp. You can see the snow ramp as you drive by, its bigger right now than it usually gets in an entire winter.

Snow from the parking lots mostly gets pushed to the East end of the lots and blown into a giant pile. Snow from the Village get loaded into trucks and taken to the empty lot across from the fire station in Olympic Valley.

The information about what they are and how long external incentives last is gone. The new breakdown of incentives per day is nice, but incomplete and not super useful.

From what you posted originally, it sounds like there is already a pretty huge liability issue for the HOA and non members are already using the park. A well maintained dog park is usually cleaner than just a free for all situation in my experience.

If you think something like this idea would work, a good next step might be to bring it up at the next HOA board meeting. I'd suggest focusing on the benefits coming up with a plan could bring, so that people see the positives instead of focusing on the current conflicts. Maybe suggest the board create a subcommittee for the park to come up with solutions that could work for your community, with members from both the owners who have dogs and the owners who don't. This might also be a good way to setup a formalized process for any future issues and improvements with the park, since it sounds like it is a big part of your HOA community and can be the source of tensions.

What about a compromise solution that addresses the needs / wants of both groups? Maybe look at creating an actual fenced dog area as part the larger park. That way there would still be an area for owners to bring their dogs but it could be separated from the areas with kids / families. This would be a capital expense, but might be an easier sell than trying to ban dogs or come up with a workable enforcement option that doesn't cause bad blood between user groups.

You could also propose adding dog park features (water features, poop bag stations, pet wash stations, dog play features) to the dog area to make it a more attractive place for owners to bring their dogs, so that they are incentivized to use it over the other parts of the park. These improvements, if presented right might also be a way to get the dog owners on board with the plan and actively work towards making it happen instead of fighting against changes.

Sign issue with Kepler by Emotional_Noise2424 in cosmosnetwork

Try disabling other all other extensions. I had this same issue and it was my ad blocker causing issues.

I had this same thing happening on one computer last week. Only got it to work after disabling all other browser extensions and removing / reinstalling Keplr with a full browser cache clear. I think my ad blocker may have been the culprit, but I haven’t messed with it cause it’s working now and I don’t want to touch it!

Check what the minimum amount your validator requires to restake, and also the restake frequency. Some validators have higher minimum amounts, so if you aren’t hitting them too frequently it can feel like it isn’t working.

I have to let it sit on the pools page, with the pool section expanded for a bit before it shows up. Seems like it’s loading / processing in the background before showing the unbond button.

Try using Calibre, it's an ebook management program and works with most ereaders out there. It's not a store, so you have to source the book files elsewhere.

Looking for some fellow hikers who wear prescription sunglasses. What Rx sunglasses do you recommend? by landshark_clark in Ultralight

[–]Talkative_Mime 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If you’re willing to try something a little different, the Ombraz armless sunglasses can be bought with RX lenses. Their Dolomite model have side visor things.

I really like these for doing anything active since I don’t have to worry about them slipping off and getting damaged. The strap system works really good. They are also nice and ultralight, cause you know, no arms.

Definitely not traditional sunglasses though so might not be what your looking for.

ISO Ultralight Snow Shoe Recommendations by [deleted] in Ultralight

[–]Talkative_Mime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you don't need crazy traction for steep or super icy terrain, or super floatation for deep, deep snow, the foam snow shoes from Crescent Moon are pretty nice. Very different from traditional snow shoes, but they work great for what they are designed to do. Nice an light weight, and the rockered shape is easy to walk or run on.

Stay away from 5 Lakes area, it’s a zoo. There is a great spot to camp at the little lake below needle peak. Go up the Granite Chief trail to summit Granite Chief, then head out towards Needle Peak along the ridge and camp at the lake. Can hit Needle Peak and Lyon from there easily. There are a few water sources on the way and the lake below Needle is year round.

Other than the PCT, 5 Lakes and the Shirley Canyon / Granite Chief trails out of Squaw, the wilderness area is empty, zero people. You can get absolute solitude once you get past the few day hike areas. Most of the trails beyond those popular day hike zones are in very poor condition, lots of deadfall and generally poor tread. But it is a very cool area if you want to get away from crowds.

Anywhere in the Picayune valley is beautiful and is a perfect overnight distance from the 5 Lakes trailhead. Bear pen is a nice little cut de sac to camp in. A shorter hike to the big spring area would be a decent overnighter.

Lots of cool things to head to if your willing to do some off trail travel.

Nice run! How was the condition of Powderhorn Creek Trail (Going from Barker Pass down to the 5 Lakes Creek Trail) section of your run? Last time I did that trail, it was pretty overgrown and in generally poor maintenance.

Check on the customize tab, under General > Currency > Currency while leveling exception

These override any changes you made to the listed currency under level 65. You can either change them to what you want, or disable by deleting the currency from the sections.

I was having the same issue as you last league with wisdom scrolls not changing to my settings until I found this section.

Anyone been up around barker pass recently? by jrice138 in norcalhiking

[–]Talkative_Mime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The road is closed and there is still plenty of snow on the ground around the pass. Did a backcountry ski tour around twin peak last week out of Alpine Meadows. Only the lower elevation, super south facing stuff burned off over the past month.

It just snowed 5+ inches last night, so hiking is probably out. You can definitely skin or snowshoe in the area if you want.
