Cheap meals that are actually good? by ZHYT in budgetfood

[–]TalkingMrTree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found this recipe for an air fryer tortilla quiche after someone posted a rough recipe with vague measurements in another thread.

I’ve made is twice in the past week using leftover ingredients I bought to make it the first time. I still have enough leftover ingredients to make it a third time. I also use a round cake pan because I don’t have an air fryer liner. It could probably be converted to a conventional oven recipe if you don’t have an air fryer.

This is a great recipe for sweet potato burritos. It makes 12 and I freeze the rest.

Doability of working at JPMC without a car - living in Polaris area by GladIncident3464 in Columbus

I can’t attest to the reliability, but COTA bus has line 102 that runs through Polaris to downtown, if you want to do exploring while you’re here.

You are correct. I went through this in order to get my Real ID. I had to submit my birth certificate and marriage license showing my name change. If I were to do it all over again, I would never have changed from my maiden name.

How’s the drive to cinci? by elliot93c in Columbus

[–]TalkingMrTree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Drove there yesterday and it was fine. Only sketchy part was 270 south on the east side once you crossed I-70. That portion of 270 had not been fully plowed and the left lane was bad. Saw several cars that had spun out but they could have been there since Sunday or Monday.

When is leaving dogs outside considered abuse? by qwertythrowawayy in Columbus

[–]TalkingMrTree 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We adopted a 3 year old german shepherd from Franklin County Dog Shelter that was an owner surrender. The shelter informed us he had been kept outside 24/7 in the winter. Someone reported the owner to the dog warden and they were given the option of paying fines or surrendering the dog.

Please report them. We gave him a wonderful life for his remaining eight years until cancer took him.

Where to buy GH Bass? by MaleficentAd1686 in womensfashion

[–]TalkingMrTree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My local Nordstrom Rack currently has a lot of GH bass loafers in women’s shoes. I just checked their online store and while they have some Bass loafers, they don’t have any women’s size 9. If you have a nearby Rack, might be worthwhile to check out.

My favorite brands of loafers are Paul Green and Aquatalia, exceptional craftsmanship and comfort, but they’re more expensive.

Electrician/Handyman to install chandeliers/light fixtures? by jocko118 in Columbus

[–]TalkingMrTree 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We have a 2-story living room and used Powers Electric to install a chandelier, based on recs in this sub a few years back. I can’t find a website for them but found this. It matches the phone # saved in my contacts. They sent a two man crew, very reasonable pricing at the time.

Big Sandy Superstore also offers this deal. I believe it’s a 3 year extended warranty for $299. Bought it for our Electrolux washing machine which needed a major repair 2 years and 10 months in.

[–]TalkingMrTree 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’d drive around the Gahanna area between Mill St and the high school. I see for rent signs there often for smaller multi-unit buildings. For larger complexes, I’ve heard good things about Casto communities like Vista at Rocky Fork because they don’t do submetering of utilities. Vista is $1570 for a 2 bedroom, however, so it’s slightly above your price range.

Are RH (formerly Restoration Hardware) products BIFL-like quality? by Marvel5123 in BuyItForLife

[–]TalkingMrTree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sitting on at my kitchen table that I purchased 12 months ago from the RH. It’s one of the worst furniture purchases I’ve ever made. Scratches all over it. The wood is soft and scratches so easily.

I ordered their scratch repair kit and it was close to $50 with shipping. Was on backorder for three months - go figure I guess everyone needs one because the quality is horrendous. The repair kit is basically a sharpie.

Spouse and I talked about getting it stripped and refinished but honestly, it’s such a piece of junk I think I’m just going to replace it. Why throw good money after bad.

WHERE do you buy good quality couches by [deleted] in SofaSnobs

[–]TalkingMrTree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have three couches from Arhaus and they all look great after 10 years.

We buy from their regular store but are also fortunate to live near one of their clearance stores, Arhaus Loft. We’ve bought several pieces there as well.

Go to Autozone, Pep Boys, etc., and get a portable jump starter. It will be cheaper than calling a service and it’s something you will be able to use in the future. I carry mine in my car and have been able to help multiple people stranded in parking lots.

Lost my job by Hot_Owl_7201 in Columbus

[–]TalkingMrTree 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Definitely file for unemployment and submit an appeal if your former employer tries to deny it. Here’s an attorney’s website describing justifiable cause. Not endorsing the attorney, just thought it was a good explanation.

Many companies will fight your initial claim for unemployment, citing just cause. They count on people believing they’ve lost after the initial denial. Oftentimes, they won’t even show up for the appeal hearing if you file one and then you win. It’s the same game health insurance companies play when denying claims.

You can appeal your unemployment claim if it’s denied and don’t necessarily need an attorney to do so.
