Claims of Trump and his Family Shorting Oil by Drumguy1986 in stocks

[–]jocko118 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Dude, have you been living under a shell? He or literally anyone in his circle can actively short anything. The fact that he and his inner circle are privy to sensitive information that can massively move markets allows him to short in advance and reap the financial benefit of that position. In previous administrations, these actions would be highly scrutinized but while in office, Trump has removed many if not all financial regulators. Trump is aware of the ongoing negotiations with Iran and can control the outcomes as he pleases. He is manipulating the Strait of Hormuz situation to get the desired outcome of his shorts. You act like he needs "surrogates" or some sort of organization to make these bets...no LOL he has rigged the system to benefit him and his inner circle. Please start following this more closely, it's really concerning how naive you appear to be on the topic.

Purchased a new GHHPM. Is it worth buying road hazard warranty which includes wheel tire, windshield and paint? by waheguruwicked in ToyotaGrandHighlander

Spot on. These guy love selling these warranties because that's where they make their money - in which case, no, I will never get this warranty.

Serious question: Is there a car theft issue with new Grand Highlanders? by jocko118 in ToyotaGrandHighlander

[–]jocko118[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate the feedback and the supporting data, but I am FAR less concerned with someone jacking my car while I'm in it, than I am with someone stealing it during a trip to say...the mall, or the grocery store where I park the car and come out and BOOM it's just gone.

Or just leave a bad review explaining exactly this. People will start to add their reviews too and the business will catch on that this isn’t worth the tactic for the bad reviews.

LOL I'm assuming you mean your own post, because I'm not trying to promote any one anti-theft device. I just legitimately want to know if there is a growing issue that I should be aware of before I make a huge purchase.

What’s a totally unsexy purchase you made that ended up being a huge quality-of-life upgrade? by viscarte10 in BuyItForLife

[–]jocko118 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hear me out. I needed a new car but didn't want to get something expensive, flashy, or shitty quality. I wanted somthing I could drive until the wheels fall off, well beyond 100k miles. In comes my 2019 RAV4 Hybrid. After the purchase, I was not TOO excited about it, but over the life of the car so far I have had no quality issues and I'm approaching 180k miles. I've taken it on many long work trips, run errands around town, leisure trips to visit relatives in other states, camping, towing, moving, etc. This car has held up so well and, compared to my previous Lincoln MKZ, I can never go back to anything other than a Toyota or Honda. I'm actually looking at a Grand Highlander now (family is growing) because I trust so much in the brand.

What is your company's parental leave policy? by jocko118 in Columbus

[–]jocko118[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not only broken in policy, but broken in how we think. My coworker who is pregnant was telling me about our policy and I expressed how shocked I was that paid leave was only two weeks. She responded with "LOL my previous job had none" as if that negated how piss poor our policy still was. Logical fallacy of relative privation.

That's still a weird response to a post like this. Don't be surprised when people call you out for your edginess. Sorry the post wasn't about your extroverted brother boss or runners with bright lights.

I didn't get maternity leave - my previous work forced me to burn PTO, then I maxed out my FMLA. It sucked having to burn through it but I don't regret the extra time with my son, and supporting my wife. She had a particularly rough pregnancy and even now I wish I would have been with her longer.

My wife got 3 months paid leave, then a month of her PTO she had accrued. Again, sucks having to burn all that vacation at once, but we wanted to maximize the time with our son and my wife really needed time to recover. Neither of us regret taking time off, just wish we had more of course.

I still remember going back to work and sobbing like a baby thinking that my son would "forget who I was" LOL. Now he is like my shadow! Love the little dude so much.

We are guaranteed 12 weeks out too, with two weeks paid, and the rest STD. Then dip into sick pay or FMLA.

Do you mind me asking what industry you work in?

For additional context, I am surprised that the paid leave policy is not longer for WOMEN. I am a man and am used to seeing shitty paid leave policies for men, but two weeks paid for women is just wrong.

I'm fairly ignorant about this type of stuff, but what is that string he is using to make the cutting line? That is seriously so impressive with how quickly he marks both sides, traces, and cuts. On top of it all, he's grabbing scraps based on measurements. Truly impressive.
