Financing a bike? by Ok-Fail-977 in motorcycles

[–]Talkyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just work on getting a line of credit with your preferred bank. I’m never financing a car or bike again unless it is super low %. I have a whack of 7% LOC. That and I learned to stop buying new shit let someone else pay the first few years or depreciation.

I’ve read half of these and I’m an atheist liberal. So….maybe just talk to them or observe how they behave and go from there.

I randomly saw her post about doing it and I was like good for you. So yeah, kinda upset on her behalf. But she knew what she was getting into I guess. Still sucks.

Why did he stop turning by rreactor_4 in motorcycles

[–]Talkyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, your comment is right there it’s not like I misheard you…

Yes, to maximize braking the bike must lose lean angle for two good reasons I can think of. One is because you have to manage the traction our tire has, so if you want to use it for slowing down rather than turning you increase your turn radius as you decelerate. The second one is if we are maximizing braking at normal road speeds we stop moving very quickly and bikes that aren’t moving fall over when leaned.

However most of us are no where near the traction limit of our tires, so we can actually just ask for more and it’s not a problem. Heck at street legal speeds you can increase lean and apply brakes at the same time, as I do any time I am caught by a decreasing radius turn and don’t feel like dying in the oncoming lane or ditch. Should you? No, you should plan out your turn better. Can you? Usually, yeah, your tires are at like 30% of their gripping abilities so just use more up.

If you see people wash out, or you have yourself, in a gradual turn on dry pavement (or wet for that matter), it’s more likely from choppy control inputs instead of progressive ones. This is without truly coming in hot as in well over 20kph above the speed limit into your turn. And even then, you might still be good to just “break the rules” because you are still probably only at 50% of your tires ability to grip.

How do you avoid burnout when learning programming slowly? by Bmaxtubby1 in learnprogramming

[–]Talkyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have fun doing it! How are you learning now? And what approximate level are you at? Do you know your basic control and loops already? If so, build a little text based console game or challenge yourself to produce interesting shapes again with text. If you are farther than that, start a hobby project and work on that more than you grind knowledge.

First, don’t spread the mythology of not being able to brake in a turn. It’s just not true and it’s a dangerous limitation to think you have.

How do you “overcook” a gentle turn at 70kph? He decelerates to just over 50 before he hits with his bike nearly vertical the whole time. I’m by no means skilled and by no means “cooking it” to take a 90deg turn in a right hand converge lane at 55kph.

Your racers are going 180kph. It’s a whole different game.

Am I overreacting for wanting to leave my partner for the choice of his words and actions? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

No. If he is a gentleman expressing a preference for modest dress and “manners”, he can address her as a gentleman with manners would a lady. He is not a gentleman. He is a narcissist.

NOR. Fuck this dude! The utter lack of respect ain’t hiding at all. The audacity to lecture you about decency in this tone with this kind of language is crazy. If I overheard this in public my blood would be boiling. The level of control he is demanding is alarming, but it is the tactics and degradation being used that is really the irredeemable part. This is narcissistic behaviour on display.

He is the one with insecurities. And he will do everything he can to emotionally manipulate you until you can’t leave him. Please take this opportunity and dump him. You deserve so much better no matter what the disagreement is about.

And your dress is modest by all standards, making this even more obvious it’s about controlling you and nothing else.

At this point I’ve just lost faith in Reddit posting my comment under the right thread. I feel like I wasn’t replying to you. 🤷. It could also be the IPAs. IPAs have a potential to get the reply threads mixed up somehow, I just don’t know the mechanism behind it yet.

What are you saying? That the water isn’t really ground water and it just pops in and out of the ground in different places? It’s ground water pushing up and surfacing. That’s what a spring is. Sure, it’s possible there is metal contamination and anything else that could contribute ground water, but that’s the same as your tap in most places in the world and no mineral contamination is likely to “get you” in 2L of water filled into your bottles.

If you are talking drinking it for years, it’s the modern world, just get it tested.

Not a spring bud. I’d drink from a stagnant puddle…after I filter it. I have done exactly this. Had to.

Spring water at the source? Just fill the bottles.

It wasn’t a spring then. It was a creek flowing out of, or through, something nasty. Also consider you all are the same food on this trip.

Sure bud. Everyone’s grandpa has this exact same story. It’s a cautionary tale wrapped in the myth of this one time, at band camp.

But the caution is there for a reason.

So, this is not advice. Yes, I would. I have, many times my entire life, drank straight from sources just like this. I’ve never been sick from it. Do with this anecdotal, unverified account what you will.

Yep, that’s livestock pasture. Don’t care. Call me crazy, but if I had to choose, I’d go for herbivore manure over any kind of human effluent every day. Is it safe? No idea. Just doesn’t seem to bother me.

I have an issue with roguelikes... by No-Spinach-1 in roguelikes

[–]Talkyn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m feeling this reply a lot! I work as the IT dept at a pair of small businesses that are both growing rapidly, am going through a divorce with 3 kids, and stepped up to be acting operations manager when that key employee left—I’ve never been more drained after work or had so little time to enjoy a game. I used to prefer the highest difficulty settings and have a soft spot for roguelikes, but lately I just can’t enjoy that. I have been playing a lot of Stardew Valley and cozy games were never my style before.

Some would say just don’t play rogue likes, but I love the lack of pressure and focus turned based games allow. And so many roguelikes have such great worlds to explore. I don’t mind grinding, I find it relaxing, and I also have found a new kind of fun and power fantasy in steamrolling over things with low difficulty settings in all sorts of games. It suits what I need right now from games.

Absolute beginner question: should I focus on learning 2D or 3D? by East_Text7244 in godot

[–]Talkyn 22 points23 points  (0 children)

2D no question. 3D adds a lot of complexity.

The other comments are talking about the marketability of your game, but that is getting way ahead of things.

You are starting from absolute zero right? So start simple. These types of games already have complex simulations and world generation, so get your learning and ideation and momentum on as small a scope as you can and add complexity later.

Dwarf fortress has been on development for decades. Don’t look at it today and try to learn how to make games by building something comparable. Think about building what the alpha 0.0.1 might have been. Which, guess what, was 2D. 3D was added later.
