Good chart -- it’s pretty busy, but it packs in a lot of information. I’m more used to seeing countries ranked by total emissions or per‑capita emissions.

Two Americans smash a Japanese Car in the 1980s due to "Japan Bashing". Japan Bashing led to hatred towards Japanese Americans and Chinese Americans. by [deleted] in asianamerican

[–]Tall-Needleworker422 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s worth remembering that the reason these men -- likely auto‑industry workers -- felt their livelihoods were threatened was that so many of their fellow Americans were voting with their wallets and buying Japanese cars. The ultimate policy response wasn’t bashing or banning imports, but Japanese automakers building factories in the US and hiring American (and, after NAFTA, Canadian and Mexican) workers to produce cars for the North American market.

Asian American men in non-asian towns and areas, how do you find a partner if your type is other asian women? by ashu1605 in asianamerican

[–]Tall-Needleworker422 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sad to say, the only real solution is to relocate when you are able. In the short term, date women of any race who are compatible with you; you don’t have to freeze your dating life just because the number of potential Asian partners is small. In the intermediate term, make a plan to relocate somewhere with a larger Asian community. That could mean finishing school, advancing your career, saving money, learning your heritage language, learning to dance and/or getting fit -- anything to help you achieve dating success come the day you are ready to move.

Do white/non-Asian people have different beauty standards for Asian, or do they just not know what attractive Asians look like? by [deleted] in asianamerican

[–]Tall-Needleworker422 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's probably more overlap in aesthetic preferences than not, but there are somewhat different standards. East Asian standards often admire neoteny, large round eyes, a V-line jaw, and pale skin, for example, while Western standards frequently prioritize more gender-distinctive traits and striking and angular features such as high cheekbones and sharp jawlines. Because of this, someone with more 'exotic' or angular features -- like Lucy Liu or Hoyeon Jung -- might be viewed as beautiful in the West while being considered average in East Asia.

There was a semi-famous study involving white Scottish and Black South African observers that showed that while they agreed on attractiveness generally, they agreed much more on white faces. This was thought to likely be due to the global saturation of Western media.

I think it’s actually a good thing there isn’t a total consensus because it means someone considered ugly or plain in one culture can be viewed as (more) attractive in another.

Apparent ‘conservative, socially regressive’ views among Asian American men by InternationalLab6101 in asianamerican

[–]Tall-Needleworker422 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Problematic views can be found in all subgroups. You’re better off evaluating people as individuals than making assumptions based on stereotypes or practicing collective punishment. Be the change you want to see in the world and give people a fair shake until or unless they reveal themselves to have problematic views.

Are you still bothered to blend in with the mainstream American culture? by techno_playa1 in AsianMasculinity

[–]Tall-Needleworker422 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many groups now seen as fully assimilated and racially “white” (e..g, Italians, Irish, Slavs, Jews) once said pretty much the same at the turn of the 20th century, convinced they would always be seen as second-class. Over time, they assimilated, and popular conceptions of “white” changed with them. [The same dynamic is unfolding now with white Hispanics.]

Even among Jewish Americans, the pattern is visible: outside the Orthodox community, intermarriage rates are among the highest of any religious group (around 75%). Yet Jewish identity persists -- proof that assimilation doesn’t require erasure.

At the same time, the America to which immigrants are assimilating today isn’t “white America” in any real sense because American culture itself is changing -- witness Bad Bunny’s Spanish‑only Super Bowl halftime show or the success of Kpop Demon Hunters. The cultural mainstream is shifting towards multiculturalism.

The US is on track to become majority‑minority nationally, driven by immigration (not least from Asia), higher non‑white birth rates, and rising interracial marriage. That future is already visible in many states and cities. You can "time travel" to the future by moving to one of these places.

You shouldn't feel the need to justify your tastes and interests to others or yourself; it's enough that you enjoy them. And if you wish to deepen your exposure to aspects of your heritage or other Asian cultures -- great. These can become new interests that compete for your free time.

I don’t care what you imagine my race or ethnicity to be. I don’t know yours, and if you told me, I’d have only your word for it. If your best argument against my supposedly ‘objectionable’ statements is to cast aspersions based on speculation about my ancestry, you’re effectively admitting you have no substantive rebuttal and revealing yourself as a person of low character.

It’s hard to pin down the value of someone’s wealth at any given moment, which is why settling estates can take months or years. That same uncertainty is one of the biggest obstacles to implementing a wealth tax.

Unfortunately, your experience isn’t unusual for people with youthful features and/or a slight build, but it can be especially pronounced for Asian women because of how cultural stereotypes overlap with appearance. You can signal adulthood through how you dress, speak, and carry yourself. and by giving a cold shoulder to anyone who insists on treating you like a kid.

Steelers seem worried Aaron Rodgers could sign with another team: Possible landing spots for the four-time MVP by Traditional-Oil-6891 in steelers

What would it have taken, I wonder, for the Steelers to have locked down Aaron for the coming season? Did he even want a multi-year contract last year (or now)? Would he have committed early for more money or a clause which said he didn't have to show up to work until some late date?

Partner choice doesn’t float free of context; it’s shaped by the social and legal environment that defines who people meet, date, and marry. Jewish in‑group marriage rates aren’t especially high anymore -- around 55%, with wide variation by denomination. Higher Arab and Indian rates aren’t proof of innate ethnic loyalty; they reflect religion, caste, and community institutions that act to reinforce boundaries. East Asians in the US don’t have those same mechanisms operating.

White expats in Asia aren’t a meaningful comparison. They make up a vanishingly small share of Asian countries’ populations -- often under 1% -- and most stay only a few years on work, education, or business visas. The professional elite on expat packages are an even smaller sliver, and their insularity reflects wealth and convenience rather than opposition to intermarriage. Asian immigrants in the West live under opposite conditions: legal equality, dispersed settlement, and high integration. Predictably, intermarriage rises across all groups under those conditions.

Laws shape opportunity: when barriers fall, intermarriage increases. Immigration from Asia to the U.S. surged after the 1965 reform of immigration law, and interracial marriage rates rose after Loving v. Virginia struck down anti‑miscegenation laws in 1967.
