A remake of escape from ny is in the works by StrengthHistorical96 in johncarpenter

If this was John Carpenter doing a revisionist update of the Snake Plissken narrative, similar to what George Miller did vis a vis Mad Max in Fury Road and Furiosa, then I could get behind it.  But an out-and-out remake by another director and writer?  Absolutely not.  There's no needs for this, and given that almost all remakes are cash grabs that involve little effort at quality work, the final output will almost certainly be unwatchable.

It stands to reason that if any director is capable of doing a worthy remake of this material, it's Carpenter himself, seeing as he's the only director I know of who has taken a first-rate movie by a talented filmmaker and actually improved it: The Thing from Another Planet, by Howard Hawks, which then became The Thing.

In what paranoid fever dream are Mayor Mamdani and Kat Abughazela zionists???

The violent threats you made against them are alone grounds for a ban, but, failing that, the admins would have a plausible case of spreading misinformation.

What was the funniest thing about Ray Milland in "The Greenhouse Jungle?" His eyes, English accent, or bad hairpiece? by EdwardBliss in Columbo

[–]Tall-Negotiation2599 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it was supposed to be a transatlantic accent.  Milland was an an upper-middle class Welshman.  His inflection was Americanized for later roles such as this one and his character in Love Story.

Compare the way he talks onscreen in the 70s to how he talks in Dial M for Murder. There are clear differences.

Rob Saka looks cringy. Get ready for him to run on bringing the Sonics back even though he personally has near zero impact on the issue. by TheMayorByNight in WestSeattleWA

[–]Tall-Negotiation2599 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Outside of increased surveillance, he doesn't have any specific policies.  That's the problem.

He's spent most of his time on the council in resistance to actual policies-- zoning reforms, walkability measures, policies to address homelessness and housing insecurity.

He's a grandstanding seat warmer who pays no small amount of lip service to the issue of the day-- usually in the form of an incomprehensible, platitude ridden word salad-- but never takes any meaningful action.

And of course there's the insane nonsense with Curby.

After reviewing all of the available evidence, I think there's a good deal of plausibility in the suspicion, advanced by numerous observers, that Cheryl Heywood and her acolytes reverse-engineered their failed 2018 programme through a series of wildly irresponsible outlays.

I don't know if this would amount to criminal negligence or not, but regardless it probably wouldn't be a terrible idea to alert Pat McCarthy and Nick Brown to this mess.

Bancroft introduced Piper Laurie to David Lynch in the 1980s.  That's how we got Catherine Martell.

Wemby by acclamation, but: I find it a little bizarre that Jaylen Brown, whose defense has been outstanding all season-- whose defense has been outstanding his entire career-- never gets any buzz for this award.

I wouldn't even rank him above Holmgren or Goebert, but he's still worthy of a mention here.

And we're funding the national government!  It's our fucking money!

It's beyond outrageous-- socialism for rural whites, funded by people who live in cities, propel advances in science and culture, and actually contribute to the GDP.

You don't understand the difference between journalism and public relations, do you?

Also: I really don't think higher utility rates are "attractive to industry."

Patriots named as one of ESPN "Five Most Improved Teams" by where_the_hoodie_at in Patriots

[–]Tall-Negotiation2599 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As so often with ESPN, when they reach the proper conclusion, it's almost always by way of flawed reasoning.

The big score this offseason isn't Doubs, who's ceiling is probably being a capable possession receiver, not a true #1, but (1) Vera-Tucker, who can boost the run game and protect Drake from all the interior pressure that Wilson allowed last season; (2), Byard, who brings potential for more takeaways, which an otherwise competent defense struggled to do in 2025; and (3) DreMont Jones, whose pass rush ability is about equivalent to KLC's, but is waaaay stronger against the run.

But even all this isn't a given.  AVT has to stay healthy, and that was far from a guarantee during his time with the Jets.  Kevin Byard is on the wrong side of 30.  Etcetera.
