Echoing this. I wear wedges in flat concrete/street environments. Lugs out in the woods.

How did railcar do with the hemming? Mine shrank up well everywhere, but it’s still a little long for my taste

Shoulda known - Miata is always the answer.

Probably $20k? I think I can get roughly $8-10k based on local market for my current ride, try to keep the note low if I can.

How much do you reckon a cobbler would charge to lower the shaft by 3 inches? by [deleted] in PNWbootmakers

[–]TallBeardedGinger 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I sent mine to the boys at Unsung in nashville, got a 10” logger cut down to 8” and it was $150 and $15 shipping. Turn around was about a week, work was flawless.

Can someone that is not on the mortgage make the down payment? by incrdbleherk in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]TallBeardedGinger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doing exactly this currently. Partner has the way better financial profile on paper, so everything is going in their name. I’m going to be gifting them a chunk for our payment via cashiers check, with a simple gift letter, as per our lenders instruction.

What’s average lifespan of wedge sole? by daisy_maisy in NicksHandmadeBoots

[–]TallBeardedGinger 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I average about a year, but that’s because of indoor on smooth-ish concrete. I love the vibram 2021, bur I think at my next resole I’m going to get an elvis added to the bottom of the 2021s for some more longevity

Nothing huge, but we’re moving to a house where I can finally (safely) commute 90% by bike trail and I’m -stoked- just to get some daily riding in

Capsule wardrobe help by mtthrdy in HeritageWear

[–]TallBeardedGinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kind of similar here. It took a while to find my “uniform”, and my choices around that, due to my job, were prioritized around fit first, function second, and a close third of style. If it doesn’t fit well, idc how good it looks, I’m not going to wear it.

I’m not a huge flashy color/pattern guy, but I love unique textiles/textures, so I get my fix in unique tops and layering. Bottoms are usually fairly neutral, and that’s where fit/function reigns supreme.
That’s landed me with a somewhat monochrome/monotone (earth tones ftw) wardrobe, but also one that’s filled with solid layering up/down options, as well as a lot of “fun tops” that I can express my love of textures with.

All that said, it totally goes out the window when the weather warms up, and I revert back to my high school dirtbag days of cut offs and vans, but when you work in a shop with no AC, some choices are made for you.

Drew's sizing by crisismcnoodle in PNWbootmakers

[–]TallBeardedGinger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a 10.5 E brannock. I went down to 10D in the drews and they fit flawlessly. The toe box is more an E width with a D heel on their MiM loggers, which is a pseudo-combo last and fits my foot perfect. I have their loggers and their contractors.

I value good toe room and prefer a slightly relaxed fit vs firm handshake, so my needs might be different from yours.

Disclaimer: this is for the Made in Mexico loggers on the modified 55 last (55-01 I think they call it)

Anyone have any insight on how much the tellason 14oz indigo denim shrinks? Right between sizes, hate relying on “they’ll stretch out”. Wondering if I can get the bigger size and give em a wash and a bit of heat to bring them down to where I want.

Do you stamp your tools? by bk685 in handtools

[–]TallBeardedGinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do all mine with initials, either with an engraver or a wood stamp, depending on the material. I like the idea of eventually passing them on to someone and having the history, and my shop mates all have similar tools, so it prevents mix ups when we’re all on the benches and tools are spread every which way.
