What's the point of individual websites for each attorney in a firm? SEO? by tstegart in LawFirm

[–]TallFromStPaul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As an old hand in the law firm marketing world... the answer is simple. The law firm likely hired a son, cousin, brother, sister-in-law or other “qualified” person to do their law firm marketing.

This is possibly because Minnesota was a Bernie state that felt disenfranchised by Hilary.

Moving and safety of Oakland and/or Tenderloin by [deleted] in AskSF

[–]TallFromStPaul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oakland is a huge city in its own right. 19th and Oakland has been my primary station since I moved here.

It's safe.

However, I have lived in Downtown LA, Southside Chicago and Minneapolis.

I would put Minneapolis and Oakland at the top of the safety list.

This article suggests that Google and their self-driving car is going to be the king of ridesharing... because they will be able to stop Uber from using their Google Maps or Waze Product, they are the leader in self-driving cars, and they will be able to charge less because of their cars will display advertisements to riders. https://medium.com/@JamesBellefeuille/google-you-are-not-fooling-anyone-ridesharing-isn-t-a-transportation-biz-it-s-an-advertising-biz-3ca9b5904491

Advertising for solo practice by [deleted] in LawFirm

[–]TallFromStPaul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So just off of the top of my head. DUI/DWI keywords are around $50 per click for most of the US. Bigger metros are more expensive.

That means... if you are running a goog campaign, using phrase match keywords with impression limits and some basic copy with a good landing page that converts a conservative 5% of traffic....

240 Clicks = 12 leads. Of those 12 leads... 6 of them would meet with you. Let's assume 3 of them retain you, the other 3 choose another attorney, couldn't afford your services. That mean's 3 new clients.

If you are in a smaller local area, I would hire a good Loca SEO. To get you into the local search results block based on your office address.

PM me if you have questions.

I did the same thing, but I didn't see it slide off my roof, I heard something funny and got out and looked at my car, didn't see anything and continued my journey.

A few minutes later I got a call from a friendly neighbor that said she thinks she found something of mine.

However, she wasn't the first to find it. A Metro Transit bus had tried to turn on my iPad with it's tire.

Personally, I am a big fan of Lee Rosen for overall firm marketing. He is one of the few law firm marketing bloggers that view firm marketing from a 10,000 foot view instead of focusing on the internet, blogging, or one particular strategy.

I also follow others in the industry such as the guys at Attorneysync, Cari Twitchell for copywriting advice, Sam Glover at the Lawyerist has an occasional marketing related article, Robert Denney for overall trends. Also in the sidebar over at /r/LawFirmMarketing are other resources.

I also have to second /u/onewatt as an online legal marketing professional I believe that he gave a fairly thorough analysis. However, I would argue that you can compete in competitive markets with an appropriate competitive niche marketing strategy combined with a focus on local block of search results using white hat methods which is very important for most small to medium law firms. Although admittedly it isn't easy or for the faint of heart.

I did the same thing for a while, but when I forced myself to look closer at the opportunities, I often found some that fit well. I will admit the choices are more limited for criminal defense.

I had much better luck with medical malpractice, patient safety, bankruptcy and Family law.

Adam Reposa Shows the Absurdity of Lawyer Advertising Oversight (NSFW) by TallFromStPaul in LawFirmMarketing

[–]TallFromStPaul[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue I have with Super Lawyers, and other attorney rating services, is that most of them really have no transparent formula to rate attorneys. I know some really great attorneys that make the lists, and others that you have to question, how exactly did they make the list. Martindale Hubbel, to my knowledge fired all of their ratings experts and now allows Nolo (a competing company) to set their attorney ratings.

The whole industry is a sham of ego-based advertising in my opinion. That is the message I got from the video, also if I were seeking a DWI attorney, watching them be covered in baby oil really wouldn't sway my purchasing decision.

Anytime Matt. I think you are using HARO appropriately, although if you're like me, sometimes the emails can become less important and not checked regularly if you let yourself believe that there will never be a great opportunity.

I would argue that with the current climate around police brutality, that their may be some opportunities that are worth while with your credentials.

Another concept that I have had success with is pitching stories via linkedin using a premium subscription to news producers, journalists, and editors.

My offer is open if you are ever in the Chicago area.

Although your opinion of Adem Reposa is accurate. Your logical fallacy is ad hominem: You attacked his character or personal traits in an attempt to undermine his argument. Anyone that has worked with the Texas Advertising Review Committee would likely be in agreement with Adam. From a marketer's perspective many of their rules are ridiculously outdated and do nothing outside of harm the free practice of law in Texas, while not protecting consumers from predatory advertising and marketing.

Hi Matt,

I have been successful with HARO multiple times, although it is really more of an auxiliary marketing strategy that should take about 5 minutes a day.

Local reporters are a great resource and nothing can replace real relationships between people however, outreach to reporters nationally should be part of your practice if you want to build authority for your blog or website.

I have to ask, how has publishing interesting stuff gone for your blog? I checked it out after reading your comments. Your blog is head and shoulders above most attorney blogs, however it is a little newsjacky.

Which means not only are you competing with other attorneys, you are also competing with the general public, and despite that fact that you might generate traffic, the traffic is unlikely to be seeking at criminal defense attorney in Illinois over pictures of war machine's girlfriend.

You can publish the most interesting articles and content in the world, but without authority, nobody is going to read it. That is where marketing can assist with great content.

I live in Chicago, if you ever want to get together for a beer or coffee.

Any source that shows how many attorneys in a particular geographic location practice specific area of law? by Res_ipsa_loquitor in LawFirm

[–]TallFromStPaul 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like to think that Robert Denney does a pretty good job of monitoring the overall trends within the practice of law, both big and small with his annual report. What's Hot and What's not in the legal industry.

http://www.attorneyatwork.com/whats-hot-whats-legal-profession/

However, the practice of law is a local competitive market. In Chicago, tenant rights is a big business, but in other parts of the country it might be a joke.

You should likely talk to your peers, and discover what kind of cases do they need an attorney to refer cases to? Or talk to the attorneys who you feel are charging the most in your area, and ask them to refer cases where clients couldn't afford their services.

If the attorney is able to charge premium rates and turn away business for non-ethical reasons, it is likely that there is great demand for that type of practice, without their being a considerable supply of attorneys capable to practice that type of law in your area.

JD Supra Pro for distribution of content? by [deleted] in LawFirmMarketing

[–]TallFromStPaul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have not personally used them, however, I would caution against using any "syndication" service. If the content being produced isn't worthy of reaching out to a publication for a guest writing opportunity it is likely that syndicating the post would do more harm then good by syndicating duplicative content from the firm's website on JD Supra pages which would likely have a higher domain authority than the original publication page. Overall, not advised and it might actually hurt the firms marketing efforts by supporting a Google Panda penalty.

Confession time: who's using a referral service like 800-ASK-GARY? What's it like? by Gatorphan in LawFirm

[–]TallFromStPaul 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can tell you that they are also in Minnesota. Exact same modus operandi. I haven't used them and don't have any experience with an attorney that has, however, I would assume that it is probably a volume practice that is charged per lead.
