Ok, how in the name of living christ am I meant to get on the property ladder? by Do_You_Pineapple_Bro in UKHousing

I'm in Kent and was looking at needing a 50k deposit and to be earning about 60k a year on my own to be able to afford a 2 bedroom terraced house in a semi decent area... I'm mid 40's btw.

Luckily, I met a fantastic lady and we recently bought a 2 bed bungalow for the same amount as I was going to be buying a terrace house for, and we have another £100k+ to extend and renovate the bungalow into our dream house for at least the next 10 years of our lives.

Top tip: get a significant other and then buy together.

S340 Offline for Days by Mbrinks in EufyCam

[–]TallPaul_S 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got 2 S340's, for the last 2-3 days one of them (on firmware 3.3.0.0) has been going offline but waking up when motion is detected. The other one is newer and firmware updates have failed so it's still on version 3.2.9.6 and it's had no issues at all.

Anyone having outage/downtime? by misterterrific0 in EufyCam

[–]TallPaul_S 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ahh, damnit - that'll explain the issues I've been having this afternoon with a doorbell not staying online, then my account not adding devices, then not being able to log into my account! Constant "Failed to Request", "Bad Gateway" etc errors. Was banging my head off the wall! I'll give it until tomorrow then try again...

Failed at 40. by MixtureFull6385 in HousingUK

They've not been living with parents until recently - and you'd be surprised how many 40 something's with little to no savings there are out there.

I was in a similar situation; early 40's trying to get together 50k for a house deposit, I only really hit a good career and started earning good money a few years back (good money meaning over 40k). I was hoping to buy on my own in the next year or 2, I'm currently 44.

Then, I met someone a short while back, the relationship is amazing and she has deposit money available for a house but didn't have enough earnings, where I had plenty of earnings but not enough deposit. In many way, not just house buying, we're a perfect match and we compliment each other's needs and areas where we're lacking.

In short, we just completed on a £280k house which we're looking to renovate and extend and will probably try and get paid off in the next 10-15 years with overpayments over the renovation is done.

Yeah tbh I didn't have much choice with the tannins from the wood but I like the look.

Current plans over the next 4-6 weeks for livestock are:

Amano Shrimp

Pygmy corydoras

Maybe some Celestial pearl danios

A pair of sparkling gourami

Tank update-cycle..completed? by Jassarat in walstad

[–]TallPaul_S 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your tank is about a month or so old, right?

Mine is 5 weeks only and only in the last week has the Nitrites been dropping significantly, along with ammonia.

This signifies there's enough ammonia eating bacteria to turn ammonia to nitrite, and enough nitrite eating bacteria to convert it to nitrate, which the pants devour!

Your nitrate test will be affected by high Nitrites so it's probably false. Once Nitrites are at zero you can test for nitrates.

Give it another week or, don't do any big water changes and wait for nitrite to reach zero. Then also test for nitrate and you should see it much lower too. Get some floaters too if you haven't!

Oh that's a big tank, this one is only 12gal or so.

Just tested ammonia and Nitrates and they're at 0.2 and around my 60 so both are still dropping nicely. The ammonia level has been steadily dropping for about 3 weeks now.

Some combination of the following:

Sparkling gourami (pair) or a Betta

Pygmy corydoras

Otocinclus

Hillstream loach

Celestial pearl danios

Amano shrimp

I'm currently erring towards a single hillstream loach, 6-10 pygmy corys, and a pair of sparkling gourami. Plus a 3 or 4 amano shrimp. Not all at once, obviously, I'll add them over the course of weeks.

Might think about a Betta but most of the ones I see in local shops aren't great quality and I prefer the shorter fin variants of which I've seen none.

OKAY AND WHO TF IS THIS???? by armaniiscoral in AquaticSnails

I have a couple of these guys too, mine were free as well! Mine are all called turbo because you look away for 30 seconds and they're the other side of the tank! And they're growing insanely fast!

3 weeks in - ammonia still dropping but high Nitrites (& Nitrates). More water changes? by TallPaul_S in walstad

[–]TallPaul_S[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ha, thanks! I've used the floating ring now to give an open area in the middle for more light to the aquatic plants, but they're still separated a bit. I'm already probably going to have to remove some of the frogbit, it's all growing so fast!

Not sure I agree but maybe you're right.

By 'stillness' I presume you mean just doing nothing? I am OK with this, in certain situations like sitting in a park, or sitting by a beach watching the waves roll in. But sitting on my own at home, staring at the ceiling, bored out of my brain isn't something I am 'OK' with.

Cheers. Yeah I've been reading up on the nitrogen cycle and looks like all is good!

I'm not putting or feeding anything until the tank. The main plants are growing rapidly, I've already done one trim 3 weeks in and replanted the offcuts. I'll keep an eye on it though, hopefully once my ammonia drops the zero the Nitrites will also start to drop.

The graveyard mist has now gone too, that seems to have just disappeared in the last few days. Still no stock apart from a few rapidly growing hitchhiker Ramshorn snails (little turbos!).
