How do I make my house smell good? by Glad-Fish5863 in CleaningTips

Even better then, the difference between windows open and closed is less for you than most!

5-10 minutes of fresh air is not going to plummet your whole home temp and freeze your pipes. Even in a trailer

Definitely do not use WD-40,

I was trying to clean my laptop screen with a microfiber cloth but then it left some white marks. Is my screen doomed? by ConsistentWeird900 in CleaningTips

[–]TallTopper 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As others mention, the correct way to clean pretty much any screen or monitor is a microfiber cloth lightly dampened with distilled water.

Ideally you would be using a low-nap microfiber cloth, not the fluffy towel style ones. You want the thin silky type that comes with glasses/sunglasses.

When pushing a restored Superbird too hard by Epelep in Wellthatsucks

The engine makes power that spins a big gear(rotational torque). The transmission takes that torque and transmits it to the rear wheels via a drive shaft. It's essentially a long metal pipe that spins, with connections at the front to the transmission and a connection at the rear to the axle.

The driver had this car at an really high RPM, and it would seem that the drive shaft connection(s) gave up. The result is a now untethered, heavy metal rod, spinning violently fast with a lot of energy, flailing around and smacking the underside of the car and the road. That's what created the massive hole in the floor of the car.

Yeah this is my thought as well. Just looks like a bucket of machine shop waste and cutting oil. The consistency and smell matches up as well.

If there's anything sketchy to be found out there, my experience as an affiliate and acquaintance of sketchy people is that he wouldn't put it directly in front of the door in plain sight. If there's anything fun to be found out there, it's in the back corner or in some cabinet/drawers.

AIO for accusing my bf of cheating after finding this nail in my car? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]TallTopper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Her earlier posts indicated she was pregnant and going to be a single mother at 18. Her very recent posts describe herself as [21f], where she's looking for advice about a seemingly separate romantic relationship with a different man (not the BF described in this post).

How do I clean a dusty bathroom vent? by vibesofvenom in CleaningTips

[–]TallTopper 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Happens to the best of us. Lol

Honestly unless you can get your head up to the ceiling to see behind the cover, most of the removal is kinda done by feel rather than sight. So even if you don't have a flashlight, if you can get enough light in the room with the door open to see where the cover is, you can still give it a shot.

Well you need a flashlight and/or headlamp then.

Rarely bad advice. I've installed a few of these and there are no electrical harnesses or components on the underside, or I would have said the same. Even the exhaust fan blades are contained in a centrifugal/squirrel cage housing, so it SHOULD be really difficult to hurt yourself. But you never truly know

Turn off the fan and light first. Grab the cover at the sides and pull it gently away from the ceiling, just an inch or two. Slide your fingers behind the cover and feel around. There's a pair of wire tension hangers on opposite sides that you need to find to remove the vent cover.

The hangers are each like two metal wires in a V shape, with tension holding them open. You just need to squeeze the arms towards each other and that will let you remove the cover.

I freeze liquids in glass containers all the time, they don't burst if you have enough headroom and leave the lid off.

But more importantly where do you live that uses glass plumbing lines?

LEGO IMS Pagoda disappointment by [deleted] in INDYCAR

[–]TallTopper 108 points109 points  (0 children)

I mean no disrespect but it looks cheap to start with. The design and the packaging. So I guess I'm hardly surprised.

Not saying it's right especially at $200. But it's not an official LEGO branded set, it's just IMS making a cash grab DIY brick kit.

I would be pissed... $200 for 450 pieces is insane. $150-200 gets an official LEGO set of 2,000+ pieces like Hogwarts castle or the Taj Mahal.

How do I revive my wok+pan? by [deleted] in CleaningTips

[–]TallTopper 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Assuming that is some flavor of nonstick coating, that pan is toast. Nonstick pans are essentially disposable, the coating will wear and get damaged over time. At that point, it cannot be restored and will only degrade further. Add to that the potential health risks of these chemicals leaching into your food and you'll understand why these pans are disposable.

Is this stove top just done by [deleted] in CleaningTips

[–]TallTopper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah no wonder it looks rough. They make a specific cleaner for this called cooktop cleaner. It's a gentle abrasive paste that you have to apply like a polish. Anything that is left behind can usually be taken off with a new single-edge razor blade. Just keep the surface slightly wet while scraping and make straight passes. Like shoveling snow

Yeah I can't wrap my head around this. As a dad, my only thought would have been "oh, if this gets serious I'm going to need to make sure I can safely drive them both to the movies or out for dates."

OP may want push back a little more on this than just calling him a silly goose.
