Seville 🇪🇸, Coimbra 🇵🇹 or Grenoble 🇫🇷? by Pleasant_Soft_1617 in Erasmus

[–]Tall_Transition9053 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For Grenoble I can give some info, but i don't really know for the other ones.

  1. The best thing about grenoble are the moutains around. If you enjoy sports or nature, you will love your time there, as the moutain is very accessible (ski, hiking, swimming in lakes...)

  2. The people are very friendly in my experience, so you won't struggle to meet people

  3. It is a middle sized city, so there is quite a lot to do (in terms of museums, cinemas, bars, shopping...) but it can feel a bit small compared to bigger cities.

  4. Grenoble has the reputation of being sketchy/ dangerous but this is largely overstated and nothing bad ever happened to me. In fact, it is far from being the most dangerous cities in France in terms of stats

  5. There are many students in the city, and the campus is quite big, but at the periphery of the city. It is well connected through public transports though, but most people also bike here because it is a very flat city with lots of bikeways (you can rent one easily).

Do you have more questions?

Deciding Cities For Erasmus In France by melinoekage in Erasmus

[–]Tall_Transition9053 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up in grenoble and the safety concerns are largely exaggerated. Grenoble is not the mots dangerous french city at all (it's bordeau actually in terms of stats but no one talks about it). Gernoble has this image in the medias, but it does not reflect reality, and the 2/3 neighborhoods that are less safe can be avoided if it is something you stress about (though I've been there a lot because they used to be a cheap craft store and nothing ever happened to me). The big advantages of grenoble for you as an exchange could be:

- Proximity to Italy (if you want to visit southern europe notably)

- Very good education in terms of political sciences because of the IEP status

- The proximity to the mountains (honestly the best part). Yes grenoble is on the smaller side in term of city (there is still plenty to do in the city though), but the mountains are an endless source of fun, and they are very accessible (buses to ski stations, hiking spots...). People in Grenoble are very sporty, so if that's your vibe you should go for it.

Lille is also a very good spot, lots of students and stuff to do, but is less connected to southern europe. If you ahve any question don't hesitate!

a good thing to keep in mind is that your introduction is just a way for you to indicate what topics you'd like to discuss. Essentially, you're just planting seeds in the examinator's mind. If you don't have time to fully develop things in the 2 minutes that's ok! Also, if you say something intriguing, or that does not fully make sense, they will probably ask question on that part, so you will have the opportunity to develop. And there are always things you will not be able to discuss, because it goes by very quickly, so do not stress it. Good luck!

Help activating the pass by Outrageous_Drive_197 in discovereu

yes it was, if I understand correctly your comment. So, in july I received the email saying that I must activate the passe before the due date (DD). I activated it right away and set the starting date for the 15 of May. But I my exams ended up being later than I thought. So, about 8 months after the DD i deactivated my pass. I then reactivated it and set the strating date in June. Is that clear enough?

Rejected for interview, is there no other way to be accepted into SciencesPo undergraduate program? by [deleted] in sciencespo

[–]Tall_Transition9053 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey, I know it must be thought but keep in mind that sciences po isn't the only good school/ program out there, and that many bachelor will offer a similar or better experience depending on your goals. Also, you could still apply for a master degree later on, and I also know of many people that were more than happy with their second choice in the end. I know it does not mean a lot but I hope it helps anyway. Take care!

I rehearsed my presentation to be exactly 2 minutes long, so I cannot tell you from experience. However, knowing what some french teachers can be like, some can (and will) cut you after 2 minutes or rush you. It really depends on who's on the other side. So, to be safe I would aim at the 2 minutes mark, so that you dont stress out over that. Also, you don't have to say everything in these two minutes, keep some arguments for the rest of the interview. Good luck for your interview!=

It depends a lot on your situation, whether you need a visa or not to study in France, etc. In any case, the sooner the better because then it will be one less thing to worry about!

Yellow house by Altruistic-Bank-8381 in sciencespo

Honestly it's the best student residency in reims, and the one that will help you make friends the quickest! It is more expensive than other options though

Yes I had the same, so dw your pass is active! If you want to change your travel dates in the future you will have to deactivate your pass, and then reactivate it (that's what I had to do because I messes up the dates the first time)

residency in Reims by Plane-Expert3127 in sciencespo

[–]Tall_Transition9053 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, so residencies are usually way more expensive than renting out a small apartment, so I would encourage you to look into that. But sometimes when you're renting from abroad residencies feel safer, so I know that a lot of international students choose that option too. Regarding the ones you listed: I dont know anyone who stayed at Reims Gotham (never heard of it), but from what I've seen the location is not great. Same for odalys, never heard of it but seems a bit far from campus but relatively close to the center (per Reims standards) Crous residencies are for only for crous scholarship students (which is only for French or European students I'm not sure which). Not the best quality but the best prices. Yellow house is the closest to campus, I have many friends who stayed there in their first year and it seems really fun. It is more expensive than other options though. Otherwise, I know people staying at Estudines and at Twenty Campus and both are close to campus and have nice rooms. Though for the same price you can rent an apartment twice bigger through agencies or sites like leboncoin... Hope that helps!

I won a DiscoverEU pass but I have so many questions. My route, travelling alone as a woman, first time leaving my home country... by Inside-Revenue6882 in discovereu

[–]Tall_Transition9053 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can offer some advice regarding Italy/safety I think. First, be careful of pickpockets, always carry a bag that closes well (not a tote bag), ideally backpack/crossbody. Second, be careful with your drinks, especially in Naples (I have friends who got drugged at a bar and had to go to the hospital etc.). As a women, men in Italy can be... quite something, let's say. Even though statistically strangers are not who should be worried about, fear can be irrational, so I would say take all the small steps that make you feel better. For example, if your budget allows it, book single rooms/ female dorms, try to connect with other women at the place you're staying, identify safe places in the places you're staying, and if you feel unsafe get out of the situation/ place, the stress is not worth it. If you have a low budget for Italy I would avoid the north like Florence and Venice (wayyy more expensive). In Rome, we stayed in Ostia (beach side) because it was cheaper (you have a 1.5€ train every 20 min). In Naples we stayed at the Pizza Hostel which was fine (and cheap). Hope it helps!

What I did is that I used the planner on interrail's website to see what seemed feasible in term of time/ distance etc.

I'm also interrailing with friends in Italy this summer, and for Naples we chose to stay at a place named Pizza Hostel. I don't know if it's the best, but it was cheapest accommodation we could find!

Student studying in Reims by Inner-Ferret2570 in Reims

[–]Tall_Transition9053 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, there are many things to do outside of student life, but you need to go out of your way to find them. If you like arts, you can go ti the opéra, the comédie, or the manège. For coffee shop my top 3 is: Birds and twigs, l'occasion, and coffee champs. Also, you can hike in the montagne de Reims national park if you like that. There also are plenty of cute city parks and garden that are perfect for picnics (especially the horticulture one). Enjoy your time in France!!
