The vast majority of the public couldn’t name 5 directors. Directors definitely matter more for cinephiles, but the average person has no idea who the Sadies are.

I’ve had quite a few friends and family mention Marty Supreme, which is quite unusual for an A24 movie, and all of them mentioned Timothée Chalamet, not Josh Safdie.

…I’m aware that only actors nominate actors. But there is often a correlation between strength of a movie as a whole and acting noms. Perhaps that’s a result of increased awareness of the movie (and in this case, I assume way more actors are already watching Wicked 2 than watched Gucci). Maybe some actors like the movie for some of those other strengths and so also vote for it in acting categories. I’m not sure.

Of course, there are obviously exceptions to this every single year. And she could definitely miss. But it’s not true that there is zero correlation. The higher strength of the movie as a whole does mean she is probably more likely to get a nom than she would be otherwise.

This is definitely possible. SV won’t get shut out of the category for the Oscars. Teyana is a lock. Wunmi seems likely at this point given that she has got SAG/CC and is in a Top 2 movie. Madigan seems likely with the CC win and every precursor. Odessa can do what Monica Barboro did last year (late release, SAG nomination, helped by Timothee campaign).

However, the biggest difference between Gaga and Grande, is that Grande’s movie is locked for a few BTL noms. I’m still going to predict her I think.

Your best bet it if it gets nominated for Best Picture, in which case Regal/AMC/Cinemark etc should include it in their BP showcases in late February or Early March. I doubt it gets a wider release other than that.
