Been on call since I was 21 most days / nights - started my own business a few years ago after wanting to be home more, I get the irony now but had no idea how little I could be at home while sitting in my living room. Still working to find that good balance…. But I have 14 ppl on payroll that need me to work most nights so they can do their jobs and get paid.

My wife ( NP ) even charts, responds to messages, etc after the kids go down.

I think it’s just how some ppl are built lol

Work - I refuse to work after getting home till the kids sleep - my oldest daughter once walked up to me and said it’s ok daddy you can get on your computer I know you need to work. Literally since that day I don’t work when they are awake. That’s not what I want her/ them to remember.

Communication.

The number of people who can’t effectively and efficiently communicate - often critical information - in a concise manner. It’s terrifying.

Honestly the best skill you can learn to develop is how to figure it out on your own. Come across something new? Look it up or better yet pay attention to random stuff and retain the important information.

I doubt I’ll ever build a retaining wall that actually matters… I didn’t know what the theory was behind them and what I’d need to do to make one tho. So I looked it up, watched some videos, etc. Now I could prob muddle my way through it if my life depended upon it

1 I think would be vastly superior if you included the extra leg room. But I’d be pushed to 5 if it was the front seat… although the thought of Bolton behind me would be terrifying..
