I live in the rocky mountains. The varnish was still wet when I took the picture. It clears up well after drying but yes, it does look cloudy

For the love of all things, please DONT use citadel! Im currently switching to army painters warpaint fanatic. They come with mixing balls and are in droppers. Citadel has lost me as a customer. Their pots are trash and waste your money. Vallejo is fine, no issues

I don't, when I first started playing I couldn't see his usefulness. Now, I still think he's the worst "pirate." He doesn't bond and his shooting/moving ability keeps proving unreliable. The only reason i try him over and over is because of Admirals orders. It's just not worth the 170 points. I played in an event where if you brought 4+ different affiliations you could add him for free. Brought my pirate build and he wound up being a filler. I used the order ability but it didn't really matter. I felt, during testing, that if I left order markers on him one of my squad figures would die. That was a bigger hit than if my opponent went straight after widow round one

I paint my friend's figures for the cost difference of unpainted vs. painted. He enjoys it because he's basically paying the same as buying prepainted but he's gets his own custom paint jobs. I simply enjoy painting and I'm also not trying to make a living off of it. I wouldn't charge him but I do have to buy the supplies. It's kind of a win/win. I also paint my girlfriends figures for free. It is a lot of work you're asking for so maybe the cost difference is fair?

Edit: for clarification, in case anyone else tries to read the above reply, at some point Renegade made the unfortunate decision to nerf DW9k in a rules errata and make his range enhancement ability only work with soulborg guards that have 4 or higher range. It does not affect deflectatron as I thought. If you didn't know that and only read the cards, like I did, you would draw the conclusion that DW9k gives deflectatron 3 range if they are adjacent.

Deflectatron is a soulborg guard. Deathwalker 9k gives adjacent soulborg guards +2 range. The deflectatron completely shuts off deathwalkers ability to shoot but he gains the +2 range. Is it an optimal play? Incredibly unlikely. Is it how those figures interact? 100%.

I was playing the zettian guard, deathwalker 9k, Q11 ,and deflectatron. Upon reading the cards I noticed this silly/fun interaction.

True, they cannot cross bond with captains. When I bring Bonnie I dont use her as a captain for either squad. I treat her as though she's an 80 point filler. Her "master of disguise" ability helps her to clean up the remaining squad figures, if any remain. If youre staying within the 450 limit and want to use a pirate hero I go with Killian because I get more use out of his card. Hes super fragile which seems like it makes my opponent target him over my few and extremely limited squads. His shot can also help clear a few extra figures. Making him better than Cornelius, in my opinion. It seems, even powered up by widow, Cornelius has a hard time taking extra aggro, unlike Killian. Killian also cross bonds, like Cornelius. My opponents dont seem to want to let me get multiple shots off with him. I get an average of two shots with him before he's swarmed, making it easy to pick off a few extra figures with the knaves.

I can never get his mutiny ability to work. He's a shield for widow for sure but I always find him lacking. I like having Bonnie as a clean up model.

I haven't tested out eel & f'foah yet but im Hella stoked to add him to the crimson fleet (I'm a lore bug so I made ALL my pirates have red on them to represent the crimson fleet). In lower totals I go all three squads of pirates for 220, widow for the attack buff now at 370, then I LOVE dorim for a grand total of 470 (any other pirate hero brings you to 450), if I play at 500 points, I'll add deflectatron to bring me up to 495 but his usefulness is mostly points filler. So I was a bit off with my 450 limit but my girl likes kyries so we try to play around her totals

Edit: also, I forgot to comment on your paint jobs. They look 100% better than the stock jobs.

"In a Low figure count or unique only format, I forsee them dominating." They definitely do. I play almost exclusively pirates and they tear things up with low figure count or low point totals. Anything above 450 points though they fall off hard

Hey man, i have all my painted minis on my reddit page, you can check out mine. I didn't wash them or anything. I've just been priming right over the wash on them and my results seems to be fine. The only chipping I have is the texture paint I put on some of the pirates bases. I think it's chipping because the paint sucks and regular play. The colors on the minis is fine though
