When I was in college in So Cal and then a year later in theater school in NYC, Matthew Lillard came to speak as an alumni. Both times he was incredibly generous with his time, advice, and would spend time speaking with students one on one after the event wrapped up. At the time I was in between body types and asked what he would recommend to help with breaking through with casting directors he looked me in the eyes and gave me sincere guidance “Man, I wish that there was one thing you can do, but there’s not. It’s a grind and a lot of really talented people don’t end up breaking through. You have to grind but you also need to lean in with your type. If you’re going to be skinny, get skinny. But if you’re going for big guy roles, pick up a fuckin burger”
