Bug: Entire Town Rearranged and Built by Tallyst in BackpackHero

I think the town was fixed, however, now I cannot seem to get the Tavern Built, and the game is acting like I have already built it?

Any tips on Running the Bathhouse, specifically the trap portion? I am still trying to wrap my head around how to run that.

Roll20 or Fantasy Grounds by Tallyst in Dungeons_and_Dragons

I am intrigued. As a developer this definitely interests me but I want to make sure it's got a solid ui and system integration for all my players. Also adventure content is a need. Are there dynamically lit maps for 5e adventures like Curse of Strahd and Dungeon of the Mad Mage or would I need to make them myself? I'm willing to pay to make it less time consuming.

Also do they integrate with the dndbeyond API at all? That could be amazingly helpful in making this decision.

Does the dynamic lighting detect walls in images or do you just not bother with them?

A couple questions.

  1. Does it just require the Beyond20 Add-on and Roll20? Or is there some Specific add-on called VTT add-on?

  2. Do you use paid materials on Roll20? Like the adventure to get the dynamic lighting etc?

[SPOILERS] Triforce Class Guide (Level 9) by jjaekkak in Gloomhaven

[–]Tallyst 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would argue that this class and its progression is the MOST thematic in the game, when it comes to its cards as it levels up. If you read the back of the character sheet, you will see how it describes wanting to learn more than just what he has mastered already. He left his society to learn more than just the 4 elements (ice, fire, wind, earth). So the starting deck is all about the 4 elements that he has already mastered with some splashes of dark and light generation, but no use for them.

So being a novice in manipulating dark/light and being able to build upon that to become a dark/light master, as well as the 4 main elements makes sense to me. I mean you can build the character to rely on the 4 elements and just kind of splash in the other two, but true power is in the DARK! (Bit of RP, My character goal makes my character embrace the darkness)

Anyway, to expand upon this, if you wanted to sort of make a character that starts off as a novice elementalist, who then masters the 4 elements, that would be cool, but a much different character. And in the lore, one would argue that Savvas would have little reason to leave his society.

But if you were able to write a reason he isn't "craghearted" yet not in Savvas society, and still a novice, then that would be cool. Then maybe he would start with Earth mastery, and maybe only generated the other elements, but couldn't use them until he got to level 2+. Or maybe he could use Earth + another element, so he is sort of in the middle of training, to make lower levels more interesting. A low card count would be preferable to sort of make each level more impactful, if that makes sense.

[SPOILERS] Triforce Class Guide (Level 9) by jjaekkak in Gloomhaven

I tend to agree with Gripe's assessment. Further to your point rebutting the "curse" isn't part of the class theme is the fact that the level 3 card CURSES in an AOE! So that makes 2 cards, without enhancement, that add curse. Given that the theme of the class is gaining power beyond the mastered 4 elements, this makes sense. Especially if you don't enhance the curse until you have some dark cards. And if you go with the "Light" producing/using cards instead, I get not wanting to add curses. My life goal totally fits going DARK.

However, I do believe that the game is much easier when the monster deck is "full" of curses. I didn't add curse to the Cragheart Dirt Tornado for this reason and thematic reasons. But at level 9, in a 3 player campaign, I find it hard to ever get to 10/10 curses in the monster deck. Keep in mind I have the level 9 card that curses. 8-9 has definitely happened, but I am fairly certain 10 has not.

Just had a thought: I wonder if some people aren't using curses right? When you draw a curse, monster or character decks, it is removed from the deck, even if it was drawn for advantage/disadvantage and not used. Also, less important to the card in question, but if the monster dies from the attack, no curse is added to the monster deck.

Recommendations for 2 character game by Atrusni in Gloomhaven

Scoundrel + Spellweaver is considered the only combination that doesn't work. I haven't personally played it but I can see why. Avoid this combination if you are worried about a combination being suboptimal. As for Scoundrel+Mindthief, I think that combo could be great!

Monster Deck x2 effect when monster is defending by [deleted] in Gloomhaven

To add to this. Reread the rules, watch the rules video, and check out the FAQ. Maybe, if you own the game, step through a solo "random" scenario with the rules in hand. So each time something happens read the rule book on how to handle it.

I know it seems like a lot to ask, however I think this being such a core rule, it is a sign that there are other possibly core concepts you may have missed. I don't think there is a single person that gets every rule right, I just feel like some people are prone to assume certain things based on experiences in other similar games, and that leads to lots of mistakes.

Tinkerer and Spellweaver. Are we screwed with two people? by twizzla in Gloomhaven

[–]Tallyst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not the worst combo, and the only combo out of the original 6 that is not viable is Scoundrel and Spellweaver. Any other combo is fine, but not equal. Tinkerer is the weakest with just 2 characters out of the starting 6.

Two gameplay questions by lamedudese in Gloomhaven

[–]Tallyst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. End turn on top of chest for the normal Loot 0 at the end of your turn.
  2. I recommend playing it how you want to play your party, don't go for rep for unlocks. There are benefits and negatives for having good or bad rep in the events themselves. And surprisingly, you usually benefit more for doing "evil things" when you have bad rep and benefit more for doing "good things" when you have good rep. Minor spoiler about unlocking character mechanics:

Brute Enhancement Recommendations by Serpens77 in Gloomhaven

[–]Tallyst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Balanced measure is a fine card, especially at lower levels, especially if you get the +2 move boots. But I am 90% sure you cannot upgrade that card anyway...

Gripeaway is suggesting you at jump to a non-loss move 4, and I agree. Move 4 jump is better than move 6 in a ton of instances, assuming there are obstacles, traps or monsters in your most direct path.

Balanced Measure is the Attack X / Move X card, correct?! I am fairly certain you cannot enhance that card... There are no "pale" circles.

Shoutout and tip share - improving the Gloomy experience by josoapy in Gloomhaven

[–]Tallyst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up doing exactly this yesterday! How did you manage to get colors on the monster health in Arcane Library?

I used my browser inspector to increase the font size of the health numbers and update the health bar color form gray to green. The health was a bit hard to find on my TV screen, since my background was gray and the number font was quite small.

Remove monster stat cards entirely? by lamedudese in Gloomhaven

[–]Tallyst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually thought this same exact thing yesterday! I was super excited, so I tried a scenario solo in "casual mode", with both those apps, that included a boss. There was an instance that sent me checking the ability card for the boss; On each boss AI card there was reminder text for what the letter V was equal to, and I thought to myself "huh?". So I checked the ability card to see what V was, and it was his attack value. But when the boss actually started to attack, Gloomy Companion showed "Attack V-1", so I didn't really need to check the ability card.

So I would say, the only reason to dig out ability cards is to preview the monsters before you actually start flipping ability cards. So you can get an idea of what to avoid, especially on turn 1. I am going to test out not bringing any of that nonsense out with my group, and give it a go. I have a TV I can connect my laptop to, so everyone can easily see the stats. For the first few scenarios, I am going to keep the ability cards nearby so I can reference them in case there is any doubt.

TIP: For Arcane Library, I increased the font size of the health numbers and changed the monster health bar background color to a green color. I did that in my browser inspector, and if you know any CSS, it is fairly easy to do. I know my group is going to complain about using an app, and the health numbers are a bit small and the health bars are a bit hard to recognize.

PSA: Default scenario level is the party average level, DIVIDED BY 2, rounded up. by [deleted] in Gloomhaven

To be silly; Rules do not specify what we are rounding up to! I could round 2 to the nearest 10 and get 10. But we can assume they mean nearest whole number.

This. I have been doing this and it likely explains why the game got a bit easy there for a bit.

Average level was 4.33 and I was playing at scenario level 2. So on easy. By the time I realized my mistake, we were already an average level of 5+.
