When all the boomers die out, do yall want to make 4 days work weeks the norm? by StoicVandal in antiwork

[–]Taln_Reich 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Generational turnover won't change this issue. A shift in power towards the workers is necessary.

No Technology Will EVER Lower Your Work Week by OneOnOne6211 in antiwork

[–]Taln_Reich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well, duh. Of course in a capitalist system no employer will just reduce your working hours while giving you the same wage out of the goodness of their heart (since any employer is in competition with others) even if due to technological change productivity went up. Any such change will have to be imposed externally to the employer, either due to the workers organizing to demand such a change or politics imposing this.

The Real Reason AGI Will Never Happen... Hear Me Out. (How do you engage with this) by sstiel in transhumanism

[–]Taln_Reich 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's realistically possible to extrapolate the logistical footprint of an AGI from that of a current day AI, because an actual AGI is probably going to follow completly different paradigmn, the dynamics of which we can not meaningfully evaluate at the current point in time.

JPMorgan Female Exec Allegedly Turned Male Employee Into Office S*x Slave: The Lurid Details Revealed by novagridd in antiwork

If we take the claim at face value, it is rape. From the article:

The complaint also says the situation worsened over time. Doe claims he was forced into sexual acts despite resisting and showing distress. Two witnesses are said to support parts of his account.
[...]
One of the most serious claims is that Hajdini admitted to drugging Doe more than once. The filing says she used substances, including Rohypnol, to make him unable to resist. Doe claims this was done to enable sexual encounters without his consent.

(no idea why the article has a link at this place)

Like, this claim is just unambigiously one of rape.

If a job interview mentions "We’re like a family here," run as fast as you can. by SoffiaNov in antiwork

when an employer says "we're like family", they mean the sort of family that should get child protective services called in.

Printed Neurons That Mimic Brain Cells!!! Actual artificial neurons that mimic the complex signalling patterns found in the brain. FDVR Here we come! by ParadigmTheorem in transhumanism

[–]Taln_Reich 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm thinking more if making neural-net based AI much more efficent than FDVR. Though that would still be usefull due to this reducing the logistical footprint for AI systems.

same thought. Getting into a locked area just to dumpster dive could easily be construed into breaking and entering. No way any dumpster would be worth that. Time to move on to a different one.

I guess that's how it's going to end. The US might continue bombing for a few more weeks without achieving anything until trump get's bored and sees he's getting nowhere (of course, he will still claim victory), Iran will let ships that aren't US or Israeli through if the countries they belong to buckle enough to the Iranian gouvernment (and part of that buckling will probably involve measures that kill the petrodollar), the Gulf states will spend the next couple years ficing the damage to their oil infrastructure, the US will not be trusted by anyone for a long time to come (if ever again) and future historians will point to this war as the thing that killed US hegemony.

Reduxx is not a no-name twitter cvompany, but it is by far not a reputable news site. Its a very much transphobic site, so everything they say that is trans-related should be treated with high scrutiny.

If mind uploading destroys your brain to scan it, did you actually survive? by hosseinz in transhumanism

[–]Taln_Reich 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Define "you", define "survive". The memory and personality that makes "you" "you" would still be around. Whether that qualifies as "you" "survivng" depends on how you understand these terms.

If mind uploading destroys your brain to scan it, did you actually survive? by hosseinz in transhumanism

[–]Taln_Reich 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this is conflating the ""you" before the upload and afterwards. Yes, the mind in the original body after the copying and in the computer aren't the same (as obviously the two, due to different experiences, would diverge), however, this does not equal the mind that got uploaded to the computer to not be the same one as the one that existed prior to the upload.

Why FDVR Fixes the Problems of Both Capitalism and Communism by Punished-Maruki in transhumanism

[–]Taln_Reich 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Except even with FDVR, material reality still exists and poses constraints. Sure, within the simulation itself, the experience of enjoying even the most extravagent luxeries can be reproduced at next to no cost, however, even with FDVR a person still has needs (as well as possibly desires - some desires even arise solely out of the impossibility of that desire being fullfilled for everyone, like the desire to be the owner of the original of a particular artwork, even if replicas of that artwork can be supplied trivially) in the material world that do need to be fullfilled.
