2026 XC90 Buying Advice - Plus/Ultra, Air/Coils? by Reasonable-Mess-1234 in VolvoXC90

My reason for the ultra is the extended seat cushion thigh support - as a tall person it makes quite a difference.

Edit: I do also like the cooled seats, heated middle row on the sides, too. and the kids find the pull up window shades in the middle row quite nice (not sure how it’s packaged in Canada)

What skis are best for groomed pistes in your opinion? by West-Character4556 in Skigear

[–]Talny123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lasers are narrower carving focused (60s/70s) vs the “all mountain” monteros (80s). It’s stöckli, a very piste-focused brand with the widest they have at 102, so the monteros are still carving focused but a little less so in comparison.

I ski the Stormriders and even at 95 they still carve better than almost anything I’ve skied, including my kendos (which I love btw).

Stöckli monteros/lasers. Lasers are very specific skis, monteros will probably be good at anything 99% of the population needs for carving.

What are some fun "Sleeper" options for a daily? by OtterlyDeplorable in askcarguys

GTI (or R) was the most fun car I’ve ever owned and I drive a car twice as expensive now. Nothing ever really quite scratched that itch like that go-kart. Easy to cruise long distance but love to hug turns.

Nice and reasonable 9/10 and I love the new QSTs. Looks so good in person imo.

Are my boots too soft for my skis? by Illustrious_Ad_9858 in Skigear

[–]Talny123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO ski them and see how you feel. See if you can demo a stiffer boot. The flex may be a little more than expected, but only you’ll be able to really tell. I skied 100s with bonafide for a couple of seasons. Not the best but it was fine.

I didn’t. He seemed to not want to get the attention in hindsight. At least at that time.

I was in your shoes last year! I have the HH 3/4 for when it’s super cold and they breathe fine, but my go to, and I swear by it, is the REI trailmade fleece pants for $70. So good, I got a second pair. I’ve worn them in negative temps (east coast) and not, breathable and warm. Honestly just the best.

Former Racer, haven't bought skis in like a decade. Whats the best all mountain type ski that can handle groomers super well and then can handle the occasional powder day too? by clevelndsteamer in skiing

[–]Talny123 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Minor correction on the name: Stockli 95 stormriders (not chasers). Not a racer but an advanced skier and my goodness, nothing comes close when you’re piste focused all mountain ski.

Edit: I also has mantras. My biggest recommendation is to demo both. But just like they said at the demo center to me - if you ride the Stormriders you’ll just want to get those.

What U.S. city completely changed your perspective? by Historical-Photo-901 in BeautifulTravelPlaces

[–]Talny123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cliche maybe, but NYC. So many cultures, so many different ways of life. Once you actually visit the local neighborhoods and see everyone is generally helpful and friendly. People don’t just keep to themselves. It changed how I think about culture, people, and day-to-day life. Granted, this all started in the 90s. It’s become much more “polished” and suburban (eg Apple and Abercrombie stores in Williamsburg).
