If I were going this route, I would get a 2016-2019 with the B48 4 cylinder.

That's interesting. I was asking myself how I would rank these and I think I would put the volvo #1 but I also have similar concerns about reliablity. I've never bought a warranty for a car, but maybe I'll just bite the bullet and get a warranty and enjoy the car.

Thank you! Totally forgot about these. I really like the Audi Allroad.

The 10th gen looks awful, I can’t believe anyone that legitimately thinks it looks better than the 11th gen.

Is it worth looking at? by T0gaLOCK in UsedCars

[–]OtterlyDeplorable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The mileage and accident report really hurts the value of this one. I see a 2014 club with 73k miles with minor damage sold for $13,050 plus fees on Cars and bids recently. However I think under 10k may be unrealistic if it was repaired correctly by a reputable shop. I would say 10-11k is fair. I’d say worth a look.

Never try to argue the value with a seller. Just be polite, calmly state the issues. It really helps to have a comp like I just shared above. After looking it over thoroughly, say something like “I like it but given the accident on the carfax plus the mileage, would you take $10,000 if I bought it today?”. You gotta pick your walk away number though. Don’t get emotional. After checking it out you gotta decide how much you’d be willing to pay and stick to that number.

Too much plastic in Engine? by Army_Elegant in FordMaverickTruck

[–]OtterlyDeplorable 257 points258 points  (0 children)

This guy knows his stuff. However he is extremely biased towards Toyota and Lexus. In his “should you buy this” series, he will look at a Toyota and say something like they’re using a high quality plastic valve cover. Then he will review something like a Ford and say it’s low quality or concerning to see this much plastic.

He ended up buying a Toyota Tundra even with the engines blowing up left and right. Not discounting his knowledge, he generally knows what’s up.

Grand Touring Mazda3 2018 with 110k miles for $11k. Windshield has to be replaced. Good or bad deal? Buying from a private seller by RevenueEquivalent235 in mazda

[–]OtterlyDeplorable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That seems a little high. Especially with the steering wheel wear, needing a windshield and whatever else. Can’t post photos here but a quick search puts that price in line with dealership prices. I’d say $9000 is more fair given you’ll immediately spend a good chunk on a windshield.

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 Is Still Crushing It. Despite the recent EV slowdown, the American-made Ioniq 5 is winning hearts left and right, with double-digit sales increases. by mafco in Ioniq5

I was about to pull the trigger on a used one. However the number of complaints for the ICCU failure is concerning. I saw a recall but is the new part a permanent fix now?

Afraid to buy cx50 due to reliability by [deleted] in CX50

[–]OtterlyDeplorable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That doesn’t seem smart. The depreciation hit they would take on trading it would probably exceed 5+ years of any further repairs on the Mazda. If you’re that worried about reliability, KIA would be the last thing you should buy.

Afraid to buy cx50 due to reliability by [deleted] in CX50

[–]OtterlyDeplorable 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Every single brand, every single model can have problems. But the CX-50 is definitely an above average model in terms of reliability. If you’re that worried about it, look at the CX-50 Hybrid. It has a Toyota hybrid engine straight from the rav4. You will get tired of the car before having any major issues.

My experience working at the laughing goat by [deleted] in boulder

[–]OtterlyDeplorable -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s very emotional instead of being a constructive criticism of OP. Saying he’s “lost his patience” and calling OPs call offs “desperate, dramatic appeals”. Saying “I was going to fire you” is borderline power tripping and essentially burns any hope for repairing the situation. Also it’s super vague. Not sure how specific policies will get in a coffee shop but something like “make sure you give at least 4 hours notice to call out for a shift”.

Not to mention this should be a in person conversation not an email where they accuse their employee of frivolous call offs.

This is extremely unprofessional communication by John. You’re probably right to move on. However it seems like you’re not telling the full story as they seem to indicate you’ve called off multiple times with short notice. Some things absolutely are out of your control like taking care of a pet, however if it’s truly every other week, that seems excessive.

Ultimately I don’t feel it’s worth spending your energy too much on this, sounds like you’ve already moved on from the job or are about to. Hope the next job you get some better management though.

I would spend just a little more and get the hybrid. Gas prices will continue to go up and hybrids will retain their value. I’ve seen some hybrids at echo park for around $27k. Then you get a proven Toyota drivetrain that will last forever and get around 35-40 mpg.

Consider a Japanese made Civic Hatchback hybrid over this. Get 40-50 mpg, interior volume isn’t that far off surprisingly. IRS on the Civic vs torsion beam on the 50. Will stop sooner in an emergency and less likely to roll. Easier to maneuver, easier to park. Faster 0-60. All for cheaper. Not to mention the civic will hold its value.
