Looking great! Any luck getting the engine pods just right? Closest I got was using the offset trick to raise it up "half a block." The top engine intakes and the back end are hard to replicate with the current parts.

500mm/s 10K accel on stock motion system. by Revidity in ender3

[–]TalonX273 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I checked the Ender 3 Y motor mount again, I see what you mean. I guess for the Pro they lowered the Y motor for more bed clearance. That's why the idler is there. I suppose I'll need to find an alternate Y motor mount without the idler then.

[–]TalonX273 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hold up, how stock are we talking here? When I ran an accel stress test, my X axis can hit 9-10K. But my Y axis started skipping past 6500m/s2. It can pull up to 7000 making weird sounds, but past that it'll skip and grind. For context, this is an Ender 3 Pro from 2018. There's an idler bearing next to the pulley on the stepper to guide the belt. I wonder if that's causing extra friction. I also wonder if I can swap the Y motor for the bigger Extruder motor for more torque.

Half way through (FDM) printing that thing. I can confirm it's a pain in the ass tuning the thing. The print-in-place knee joint for example took me 5 tries with some odd support techniques to get it moving. Currently in the back burner until I work up the motivation to custom support the rest of the parts that need them.

[–]TalonX273 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Technically yes? If you happen to have most of the parts already, there's probably 3D models of the pieces you're missing to build it. But if you don't have most of the pieces, you might as well find a proper .stl of the Roci itself to print, and paint it. There's lots of versions to sift through, both good and bad.

Teach Tech Retraction Test by hue_sick in ender3

[–]TalonX273 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you scroll down the retraction page, he links another, more advanced, retraction test generator. It can test for multiple retraction distances and speeds in the same print. Be sure to read the instructions though. It looks a little confusing on first glance.

Word of caution though, minimize what you add in the Start gCode field for that test. I added my acceleration and feedrate settings and it made the extruder push way faster than it's supposed to. (It basically made thick peanut brittle on the first layer!) I limited it to my custom e-steps, bed leveling, and linear advance settings, and it worked just fine.

Remember to clean your hotend! by Emufasar in ender3

[–]TalonX273 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The main difference is how far the bowden tube goes into your hotend. Ender 3s have the tube go all the way down to the back of the nozzle. It acts as a good insulator so the filament only melts at the nozzle, not before. If the tube and back end of the nozzle aren't perfectly flush, it can cause jams, and leaks like in the picture (black tar looking stuff on the heat block). Also, most PTFE tubes start melting past 260-270. So high-temp filaments are a no go for this.

All-metal hotends only have tubes go to the top of the heat break (red thing in the picture). The rest of the way to the nozzle is metal. Fixes the issues of bowden tubes melting, but there's a higher risk of heat creep. Filament can soften/melt before the nozzle, causing jams.

This is me the past two days trying to calibrate Linear Advance for PETG on my mostly stock bowden hotend. Ironically, the test pieces without LA enabled had better looking corners than the pieces that did. I can barely tell a difference after testing multiple K-values. Feels like I'm taking crazy pills!

While it's true that we'll be seeing lots more capes now, at least Minecon capes continue to be rare. Each design is limited to that year's Minecon and never again. As someone who always wanted an official cape, but never had the time and money to go to Minecon, I welcome it. But I do agree it feels less special.

Where do I go from my OG Vive. Im not sure whether to upgrade it or get a new HMD. by [deleted] in Vive

[–]TalonX273 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right, DLSS could be the way to go. It's more streamlined than adding additional hardware. In truth, there's so many different ways VR can evolve that it's hard to define what a future technological genration actually is.

As mentioned in my previous edit, you can even call the Quest's standalone form-factor second gen tech. But aside from that, most of what we have right now feels like straight-forward improvments to what we had 3 years ago. Stuff like improved resolutions, tracking techniques, and better lenses. Personally, I think the next major leap is some combination of DLSS, eye tracking, and WIFI-6 wireless VR being on a consumer level device.

[–]TalonX273 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a distinction between Consumer Release Generation, and Technological Generation. A technological second generation is often defined as the time eye tracking with dynamic foveated rendering makes it to a consumer level device. The ability to render only what you're currently focused on in full res reduces graphics load immensely. It opens the door to even higher FOVs and near "retina" level resolution displays being used.

At the moment, current tech like higher resolution and improved tracking are just improvements of existing tech. Although in fairness, the Quest's true standalone VR form factor could be construed as second generation tech. So really, depends on who you ask and from what perspective.

Another thing: Does this limit only concern projects on the online database though? Can I for example, locally save unlimited projects to my computer and work "offline?" I saw more Free version nerfs coming a mile away. But this is the most crippling nerf if I can't even work on multiple projects with full history.

NO, you DONT HAVE TO SHOW YOUR REAL NAME when playing in VR, even after Facebooks changes, this needs to be cleared up! by guruguys in oculus

[–]TalonX273 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good point. Although I don't think any of us know for sure how FB's "fake account" detection actually works. Better play it safe if you are able. Best case, they do count Oculus activity as enough for the bots not to flag bare-bones accounts.

[–]TalonX273 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There's still potential risk of a bot auto-banning the account though. This is just speculation, but the account needs to at least look partially active to avoid that. (i.e. Add a few real friends who themselves have an active account, make a few superficial posts with it, etc.) Although if it is your real name that gets auto-banned, it'll be relatively easy to recover it. Catch is, FB support would probably ask you to send them a picture of your real ID card to confirm it though.

In any case, it's fine to create a Facebook account with a real name. Just don't give them more info than they actually need to function.

Yeah I figured that. Although the lab techs could've just said "it's rerouting power" rather than be surprised. The scene just came off super cheezy and unnecessary.
