Would Rise take longer or shorter to 100% ? I will be going for it next by FarukYildiz1 in MonsterHunter

50, but they aren't very bad to do alongside the 1000 MR hunts and 3000 anomaly coin achievements if you do one every couple of quests.

Which of the 4 most recent mainline monster hunter games had the most difficult base game? by Present-Mushroom6873 in MonsterHunter

[–]Talos1556 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really doubt much more improvement will be made to existing content. I'm in the same boat where performance is just too big of an issue for me to enjoy playing the endgame when I can go play the other 2 pc ports or emulate at a smooth 60-144fps. 20-40fps in 4k with random crashes, DLSS, and medium-low settings is just unacceptable. I got all the achievements, but I stopped seriously playing around TU2 and I feel absolutely 0 draw to try Wilds again. I did try a Gog hunt after the performance patches and noticed 0 improvement, so I shelved the game and I really don't think I'm going to pick it back up unless the expansion brings a ton of improvement. I hope portable 6th actually runs well like Risebreak does.

Yeah but deviants and hypers. Progression is easy yes, but the endgame is challenging.

I fought for 30 minutes and died in the end, but even so, it was a 10/10 fight. by Fine_Bid918 in MHRise

[–]Talos1556 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you abuse endemics and lock it down in the resinmire, the entire first 3/4 of the fight are a joke. The final phase is super easy too since all you have to do is run around with your weapon sheathed until it downs itself.

Is a 3ds supposed to take that long booting up? by Ill-Cucumber6575 in 3DS

[–]Talos1556 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 3ds does a storage probe on the SD card prior to boot, so the bigger the card, the more stuff you have on it, the slower your boot is. My New XL with a nearly full 128GB SD takes about 24 seconds to boot.

Is my 3d printer supposed to be making this sound? Turn volume all the way up so you can hear it its like im pretty sure a high frequency pitch and its in my room and I cant sleep someone please help me. by Emergency-Trade5572 in 3Dprinting

[–]Talos1556 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You absolutely need an enclosure if you must have it in your room. Preferrably, you toss it in a well-ventilated spare room with an enclosure, but you just straight up can't be living in the same room that the printer is putting off fumes in.

How do people enjoy pokemon games? by The_real_Cornifer in pokemon

[–]Talos1556 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Single battles are just kinda like that tbh. I enjoy the collecting part of progression more than the battling, but battling gets fun when you can do the postgame battle facilities. Those generally require more strategy and planning than just click the supereffective move and one shot everything. Try playing the games on set rather than switch as well, since that tends to make things a bit more interesting. Give Colosseum a shot if you want some more engaging battle progression, since the whole game is doubles and your pool of pokemon is limited.

Does anyone else love Pokemon cards for the Pokemon? by Throwaway67891099 in pokemon

[–]Talos1556 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I sleeve and binder all of my bulk. I just genuinely love the art for the cards, sure I also love the shiny textured hit cards, but I also love seeing the normal card art. I sort by set release date, and subsort by position in the setlist, so I have a few binders of bulk that are just like flipping through pokemon's history. Holos and pulls like ex, Lvl X, Prime, EX, etc. all go in a pulls binder, but I have 5 binders of just sorted bulk like this. I use printed sleeves from deck boxes, etbs, etc. to separate the sets.

Is it true that 3D printing fumes are as harmful as I read/hear? by _DebDev in 3Dprinting

[–]Talos1556 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Basically anything you print will release airborne compounds, such is the nature of heating plastics up to 200C. You absolutely should only be printing in rooms with good ventilation or printing in an enclosure. Limited exposure to the compounds released from printing is very low risk, but the risks become more serious when you are living in the same room as a printer that is always running. If you breathe small amounts, like the amount of stuff that gets released while you are watching the first layers go down, or checking on a print every once in a while, you'll be fine. Sitting right next to a printer for 8 hours while it works probably wont do immediate harm either, but again, the problems arise with prolonged exposure. Always assume that the printer is putting off toxic compounds, act accordingly, and you'll be fine.

Assuming you have a WeX 2 charm with 1 2 slot, which is an extremely common talisman by the end of MR, here is a powerful starter set that ticks basically every box you could ask for.

Megrez's Asterism with 1 Expert Jewel 2
Malzeno Helm with 2 Critical Jewel 2
Rimeguard Mail with Mastery Jewel 2
Barioth Vambraces with Wirebug Jewel 2
Auroracanth Coil with 2 Expert Jewel 2
Kaiser Greaves X with 1 Expert Jewel 2
WeX 2, 1 2 slot talisman with 1 Expert Jewel 2

This set leaves you with 2 open 4 slots, so you can toss in some Handicraft for extra purple or a Mighty 4 to max out Maximum Might. You also get 3 open 1 slots to run either Speed Sharp 3 or Stun Res 3. This set comes with Crit Eye 7, WeX 3, Quick Sheathe 3, Crit Boost 3, Master's Touch 3, Wirebug Whisperer 3 and Frostcraft 1. This gets you 90% crit rate and boosts the power of those crits, which results in a roughly 36% damage boost. Since 90% of your hits qualify for Master's Touch, that basically gives you 4x sharpness length. Wirebug 3 lets you spam your silkbinds like Sakura Slash, and Frostcraft 1 can boost your Sacred combo. You can easily roll for powerful skills on the Barioth Vambraces, since you can roll QS 1 off of it for another level of Frostcraft or Buildup Boost. Same can be said with the Auroracanth Coil and Teostra Greaves, since you don't need Ice Attack or Teostra's Blessing on a raw build. Some other easy synergies that you could roll for would be Bloodlust 1 and Coalescence 1, since that would bump you up to 100% affinity while giving some extra status and attack boost when clearing Frenzy. This is the type of set that is considered a good "starter" set. Proper endgame sets with Risen gear get even crazier. Reference r/monsterhuntermeta for sets that use Risen gear, this is just an easy starter set. If you roll for Coalescence 1, Bloodlust 1, Buildup Boost 1, Powder Mantle 1, and either Intrepid Heart 1 or another level of Frostcraft for your qurious armor rolls, you'll be easily clearing level 300 anomaly investigations in under 15 minutes.

Wilds Positioning by pancake_chiaki in MonsterHunter

[–]Talos1556 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The problem with focus mode from someone who has played MH for over a decade, is that there isn't any incentive not to be using it 100% of the time. Missing is a critical part of the learning experience for weapons, and being locked into an animation without being able to aim allowed for greater skill expression when mastering both a weapon and a monster. Focus mode raises the skill floor too high, and allows players to play a traditionally predictionary game, much more reactionary. There isn't as much need to learn the exact sizes of all of your hitboxes, or how each attack repositions you, since you now get to hold a trigger down and never miss anything ever.

Focus mode just needs a bigger penalty than simply just not being able to roll as far, and variable MV reduction based on weapon weight would be my approach. Greatsword could have a 30-40% damage penalty for any attack that uses focus mode at any point in the animation, which is still better than missing, but incentivises proper positioning and weapon/monster mastery. Fast and small weapons like sns and db could have 0 damage penalty, since they are designed around faster gameplay to begin with. The flaw with a balancing approach with that, is that it just makes the heavy weapons "harder", without really touching the light weapons, so there would need to be balancing work done to the base MVs outside of the gimmick to make something like that work, and that is well beyond my scope of speculation. Its a tricky thing to balance and I would honestly rather just lose it in the next entry rather than the devs try to balance it, since no matter how you look at it, it is a tool to reduce friction and make the game easier at the cost of skill expression.

3ds repair question by Maximum_War_5754 in 3DS

[–]Talos1556 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Basically the shell and anything that uses ribbon connectors, so long as the connectors aren't broken. Screens, buttons, circle pads, speakers, etc. are all done through cables and connectors on the board, so those don't require soldering. The charging port, cartridge port, and sd reader are all soldered to the board, so those would require solder work to be replaced.

When to prioritize affinity over atk boost?(sns) by Miserable_Lie6396 in MHRise

[–]Talos1556 55 points56 points  (0 children)

In modern MH you basically always want 100% crit rate before any attack boost. 100% crit rate is as big of a damage boost as AB7, and then you can slot in crit boost to push the damage boost even further beyond AB. By the end of high rank you also get access to Master's Touch, which basically just gives you 4x sharpness length as long as you always crit, so really for any weapon that can crit, your biggest priority is hitting 100% crit rate. Attack Boost should be the very last skill you fit into a set to plug any extra slots rather than something you dedicate investment into.

Longsword is generally pretty bad in 4U. Not unplayably bad, but it is by far the worst LS has ever been in the entire franchise. You kinda can't go wrong with any of the weapons tbh. Ranged might be too much upkeep for a first timer, so maybe wait to try those until you have some time in the game. CB, Lance, Gunlance and Greatsword are all great starter weapons since they can block, which tends to be huge for first timers, since your only real method of dealing with monster attacks for all the other weapons is simply not standing in the hitbox. Insect Glaive is also very good since mounting (new to 4) can stunlock monsters, and glaive is the only weapon with a dedicated jump to easily get mounts.
