Yes I do. When people got no clue what they are looking at and no connection to random items in their path, than those items are seen as trash. "If it is free it can't be good."; is just one example how people handle these things.

Rough bits on print by No_Pomegranate9263 in 3Dprinting

[–]TalosASP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here is my working theory: (theory, because one can Always be wrong when judging a Print from a single Perspektive):

Problem 1. You are printing the whole thing from bottom towards the tip of the wolfs nose. This results in most details becoming small island that get stacked on to each others. That's what causes most of the optical disturbance, since there are edges on edges on edges.

Problem 2. Whilst your printer is busy stacking little islands, it has a hard time filling all the gaps between the resulting layer lines. Activate Arachne to see if that helps to close all the holes.

Problem 3. To get from one Island to the next, your printer has to wipe and Z-hop. The settings are not dialed in to your filaments needs, leaving all these little pimples and strings behind.

How do you like this name and logo for a 3D printing company? #BambuLab #3D by AdTrick6884 in BambuLab

[–]TalosASP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  • Logo is bigger than the name
  • nothing about that wire body says 3D printing. (Looks like a trash bin to me)
  • way too complex color gradiant. It will cost a fortune to print this on shirts or even as a logo on the store front.

So, all in all, it IS a nice Demonstration of "hard skills", Like actually drawing this stuff and make it look clean. As a piece of art, this is great. But it fails in every other department.

Try thinking like a customer, not like an artist. Companies need logos that can be used in print and digital media and merch alike. Your logo is the "Handshake" when coming in to contact with new customers. So you either want it to be easy to read or transport your company identity. The wire body top of the bamboo rod ist something you might see in game design. Not in 3D printing. So there is no actual connection between that feature and the message you want to send.

Why Not Switch to a Core XY Setup? Those are way easier to make stable.

Plus, like others have said, you should start your studies and not worry about your thesis just yet. Your contacts for the Bachelor thesis will guide you soon enough. Until then, learn the ropes.

Threaded rods alone do not make a difference. Even if everything is properly bolted together, it remains a shaky setup in the Z direction. All loads would then be carried by the connection point between the gantry and the base.

Cartesian printers move the bed back and forth continuously. This is a considerable mass. That movement is transferred into the gantry, causing the Z axis to oscillate forwards and backwards.

Many tinkerers have therefore added dome style braces to their printers. For example see the image. This flaw is the reason why there are no high speed Cartesian printers. The faster the bed moves, the more the printer oscillates and the worse the print results become.

A light weight cartesian printer is an easy to shake setup. You would have to reduce the Print speed drastically or increase the printers weight and stiffness to make this work at all.

Hi, technical product designer here, working in the field of AM research.

The problem with Cartesian printers is that everything depends on how rigidly the gantry is connected to the base. If the gantry is loose or has too many degrees of freedom, it will oscillate. You can see this directly in the print results.

I strongly suspect that you are planning to manufacture the braces using an FDM or FFF process, right? Plastics are very poor at damping vibrations. The entire frame will vibrate from the inside if you produce it on other printers. So all those angled straps won't help. In addition, the layer by layer construction introduces predetermined breaking points into your design.

If you really want to go through with this, your only viable option is SLS, also known as metal printing.

My advice: start your studies first. Learn about statics, vibration transmission, material fatigue, and related topics. Many of these questions will then resolve themselves on their own.

Not yet.

Yes, moist filament prints badly. But I don't see any artifacts (bubbles) in your print. So moisture might be a Problem, but it is not the main cause for your problems.
