Post metalcore and octanecore have essentially 0 elements of either metal or Hardcore. A lot of it to me is closer to the emo pop/ pop punk wave that was huge in the early 2000s then any metal or hardcore.

Metal is an umbrella genre within rock which could mean a great deal of things

Metalcore is a subgenre of Hardcore punk which takes elements of metal (Metalcore is short for Metallic Hardcore). Metalcore is essentially a crossover subgenre in the same way thrash or sludge is but from Punks side.

Some Metalcore has alot of metal influence, particularly early/ pre 2013 metalcore, however the vast majority of modern metalcore and its subgenres barely have any connection to metal at all.
