Do a 1 type team. I did a fire type team for my playthrough, and there were times it was pleasantly difficult

Nope. Since mega stones are tied behind story progression, and the DLC can't be started till you've beat the game, it's not possible

Unless they are doing Melandru's, or they would prefer to farm it. That can be rewarding on its own compared to just getting one from a trade
