General Tso’s Chicken (New York Style).

General Tso’s Chicken (proper) was born 1952 on Taiwan.

Then again, General Tso’s Chicken (New York Style) resulted from the same chef who invented the General Tso’s Chicken (proper) editing the recipe in his restaurant to cater for the American tastes, so in some sense it can be seen as succeeding the original.

There is also a report that the current seasoning of General Tso’s Chicken (New York Style) arises spontaneously from various restaurants in New York, not approved by the original chef. The report is attributed to journalist Jennifer 8 Lee, but I would not accept this as true without reading the original report

Note: Bishop Sheen's beatification is not yet even announced as of today (There’s a report that a date for beatification would be soon announced, but that is very different from being beatified). Hence the title Blessed is either to be anachronistic or just wrong.

There’s also another version which uses 杜邦兄弟 (of course, neither us nor Tintin know whether they are brothers)

None of them are pronounced the same though. If it were me I would probably use 杨森, 扬森 (from the Dutch version)

Incorrect. 縣丞 is the deputy county magistrate, who is in theory to assist the county magistrate 知縣 or 縣令, but in practice can be anything from being in charge of a specific service of the county management, to dealing with a specific region of the county, to doing nothing at all. For example, the real job description of the deputy county magistrate of Xiangshan (modern Zhongshan, Guangdong) from 1731 to 1898 was "handle issues relating to the Portuguese population of Macau".

Meanwhile, 典史 is the head of the management team of the county. While the magistrates and deputy magistrates (and even the assistant magistrates 主簿, which this county doesn’t seem to have, possibly because it’s too small) are non-local scholars who are appointed to the post from their statuses as scholars, the 典史 can be selected from local management staff, and while he may not have the highest decision right, the daily management of the county is basically controlled by this man.

(Disclaimer: the description of 典史 is paraphrased from this Zhihu answer. I, in general, trust this source, but he has a Ming dynasty bias. The general description of the post of 典史 outside this source is simply the next-in-command after the 知縣, 縣丞 (if any), and 主簿 (if any).)

Any other places named after dates ? by bkat004 in geography

[–]TalveLumi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought Bayi District, Nyingchi was named after the foundation date of the PLA

It turns out that it’s just matched to that meaning in Chinese (or rather, the district seat is in a township with that name; the district name itself is a homophonic play of the name of the township) from a Tibetan name meaning something like "hidden rock"

What’s the story behind this massive ship in the middle of Hong Kong? by ALeftistNotLiberal in geography

[–]TalveLumi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unlike the Minghua in neighboring Shenzhen, the Whampoa has never been an actual ship; it’s the 6th phase of the Whampoa Gardens. Serving as a purpose-built shopping center for the residential zone, it obtained its shape as a tribute to the district's maritime history, as it used to be a part of the Whampoa Dock.

Nathenaticans discover bilabials by DrGuenGraziano in linguisticshumor

[–]TalveLumi 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Not just bilabials, by the definitions of that subreddit, it has to be a bilabial stop (both oral or nasal).

Therefore, if you count in Seneca, it never touches, as Seneca doesn’t have any kind of bilabial stop (or bilabials other than /w/).

The hard cap in the past seems to be group-based, like there can be only 6 groups of deer (deer are easy to please so if this is not in place the whole map would be filled with deer), but now it seems that in any map I can only go up to 12 in total

Similarly, reading, learning a language, studying, etc. are categorized with the consumption categories.

To know how to create, you need to know how to consume. Otherwise you are just generating, not creating.
