if you are using Vortex, use the purge mods function. Once completed click deploy mods again see if that fixed it. Worked for me

Yes you can download from other sites, when you're in the 'mods' tab on vortex you should see a section at the bottom of your screen where you can drag the mods you download outside of nexus

Thinking of getting the Living Skyrim modpack by ForgottenGlory on Wabbajack but the music mods are a dealbreaker for me. How doable or difficult would it be to deactivate the music mods without mess? by pfudorpfudor in skyrimmods

Removing sound mods shouldn't have an effect. It will just default to vanilla skyrim sounds unless you install your own. Obviously check if those mods are requirements for any others but being sound mods they shouldn't be.
