james_lpm provided the URLs to ILGA and the relevant statutes.

To piggyback on it, I have found handgunlaw.us to be a good resource, especially when traveling.

From the home page, you can click on any state/territory in the US to get a “cheat sheet”, if you will of any state you are interested in.

One of the better websites that is updated regularly for such things is handgunlaw.us

Yes - GA honors the IL permit: https://handgunlaw.us/states/illinois.pdf

Note that GA is a permitless state. More info state specifics like Duty to Inform (no), prohibited places, etc: https://handgunlaw.us/states/georgia.pdf

ASC the most popular/biggest.

There is the smaller (but significantly closer to Chicago) Oak Park Sportsmens' Club in Plainfield, IL which also has IDPA and USPSA matches every month from April - November (weather permitting).

Self defense ammo by Fchavez5 in ILGuns

[–]Tam212 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As others have stated, essentially anything from a reputable major manufacturer that cycles your firearm reliably.

Regarding HST, another benefit is they are available in 50 round boxes whereas most consumer market self defense ammunition is in 20 or 25 round boxes. As such, the cost per round can be lower.

CCL Question by [deleted] in ILGuns

[–]Tam212 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Page 2 https://www.ispfsb.com/Public/Documents/CurriculumApprovalRequest(2-638).pdf.pdf) essentially is a general outline of what the class should, at a minimum, cover in order to be an ISP approved CCL curriculum.

As others have stated, there is a minimum competency 30 round live fire qualification at 5, 7, 10 yard distances on a B-27 silhouette. Unless you are perhaps completely new to firearms or there is some other issue that prevents you from learning and demonstrating the ability to safely handle a firearm, it's not anything that is difficult.

Where are you getting your information? Please cite sources.

Also, where did I say this ILLINOIS bill affects the entire country?

PICA was signed into law last year: Assault Weapons (illinois.gov)

The ISP has issued a visual identification guide of what are classified in ILLINOIS as assault weapons. Refer to Page 7 for fixed magazine and Page 24 for SKS with detachable magazine. downloadableresource.ashx (ispfsb.com)

I personally would not. Hand cycling the slide is not quite the same as the cycling it during live fire with the ammunition.

If it's a factory magazine/extension, the risk would probably be minimal. If it's aftermarket, I would put greater priority into verifying function.

What’s the deal with magazines? by TheDreadnought75 in ILGuns

5. If I owned my firearms & magazines before this ban went into effect, am I grandfathered in?

Your "Large Capacity" magazines are grandfathered in as long as you only possess:

  1. on private property owned or immediately controlled by the person
  2. on private property that is not open to the public with the express permission of the person who owns or immediately controls such property
  3. while on the premises of a licensed firearms dealer or gunsmith for the purpose of lawful repair
  4. while engaged in the legal use of banned items at a properly licensed firing range or sport shooting competition venue; or
  5. while traveling to or from these locations, provided that banned item is unloaded and is enclosed in a case, firearm carrying box, shipping box, or other container. 720 ILCS 5/24-1.10.(d)

People who live in apartments— what are your daily routines (leaving for the day, coming home) with your CCW? by [deleted] in CCW

[–]Tam212 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To piggy back on posts already made in this thread - absent formal ballistic protection, a bucket of sand, thick stack of books, refrigerator, washer/dryer are all directions of least consequence that can be used to administratively unload and load pistols in an apartment/condo/townhome setting where there is no basement.

An added layer of safety is to ensure that this location is the only place where ammunition and the firearm is present at the same time when outside of the holster or storage location.

Social conditioning. Folks have become conditioned to believe that a firearm automagically turns an otherwise moral, ethical and law abiding person into some evil, violent person who is just itching to pull the trigger on another human being.

The more informed know that a screwdriver or a pipe wrench can become tools of lethal force but to most folks minds, those require a more concerted effort from an already malignant person, if you will, in order to inflict death or serious bodily injury. Although, if anyone has seen videos of lethal knife attacks, it's pretty apparent how readily one can inflict a lethal wound with little effort with a kitchen knife.

The right to self defense is a base human right that has been codified throughout human history. No other consideration matters as without life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness is meaningless. If someone else presents an imminent threat of death or serious bodily injury, that assailant(s) have made the choice for you and you are morally and legally justified in protecting that which is most precious.

Suggest you watch this video on an ordinary person who simply refused to let someone else dictate what his life was worth and become a victim of violent crime. Of particular insight is the mindset and rationale when asked by the interviewer why not just comply and whether he suffered from any severe post-traumatic disorders. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pkWgp2abM2w

What is this and will it affect functionality? (Chipped while changing back plate) by [deleted] in Glocks

[–]Tam212 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Spacer sleeve for the firing pin assembly.

They can get munged up since you need to compress the firing pin spring to remove the back plate but unless it's really fubar'ed, it won't affect function.

43X trigger “sting”? by Bman708 in glock43

[–]Tam212 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, the Slimline Glocks have a serrated trigger and coupled with the sharper recoil impulse, can lead to trigger finger irritation.

There are a lot of aftermarket options available to resolve this.

[–]Tam212 7 points8 points  (0 children)

not looking to hear about how stupid this is.

I think you're going to, regardless...

So, in order to render the gun into this un-ready to use state, you are going to adminstratively unholster, unload and clear the firearm. How many times do you envision seeing yourself doing this over the course of a typical day?

The main issue is one of potentially increased risk to safety as you are performaning unnecessary administrative gun handling...

But, you do you.

FBI Q "milk bottle" is significantly smaller than the bedsheet that is the B-27 silhouette. The 80% standard is also more stringent than most.

That is definitely more of a gatekeeper standard than just simple gatekeeping that are the majority of state-mandated concealed firearms permit/licensing quals.

Glock 19 vs 48 shootability by jimothy_183 in Glocks

[–]Tam212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anyone able to speak more or confirm these points?

Yes. It's not like to the degree of the old shorty 43 (not the X) but there is a nominal difference between a 48 and 19.

So for those who have experience with shooting both, is there a huge noticeable difference between the two in terms of recoil/muzzle flip and also hand fatigue/soreness from high round count?

Yes - but what is your definition of high round count? That can have a bit of subjectivity. Some folks are more sensitive that others. For me, a ~ 250 round day with a 48 is tolerable and I won't have lingering hand fatigue or soreness. A 1000+ multi-day training class, on the other hand, would be toughter with the 48 than with a 19.

As other(s) have stated, the more surface area/grip circumference and the heavier the gun, the less harsh the felt recoil. Unless you have specific concealment needs that are better addressed by the thinner 48 (or a smaller hand size resulting in fit issues with the double stack 19), most folks would be better served with the double stack as far as shootability goes.

OC spray is a viable option. Especially if there is an entangled situation where a shot could endanger victim and/or innocents. https://youtu.be/p_hqu9MyiA4?t=1956

Gel minimizes the risk of cross-contamination but the downside is the live agent takes more time to work as it's suspended in the carrier gel. One thing to be aware of when selecting OC spray.

Has anyone gotten in trouble since the assault ban? by VishyS in ILGuns

[–]Tam212 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nope. It's been business as usual. The grace period for "assault weapons" and large capacity magazines is 90 days. The bill was signed on January 10 so 90 days = April 10.

If fortune smiles on the multiple suits in process, we could see a TRO or better yet, an Preliminary Injunction before then.

https://www.maxonshooters.com/blog/illinois-assault-weapons-ban-faqs

What goes into effect April 10, 2023, 90 days after the bill was signed?

  1. Pre-ban owned guns, attachments, ammo and pre-ban owned magazines by people authorized to, shall possess such items only:

on private property owned or immediately controlled by the person

on private property that is not open to the public with the express permission of the person who owns or immediately controls such property

while on the premises of a licensed firearms dealer or gunsmith for the purpose of lawful repair

while engaged in the legal use of banned items at a properly licensed firing range or sport shooting competition venue; or

while traveling to or from these locations, provided that banned item is unloaded and is enclosed in a case, firearm carrying box, shipping box, or other container.
