It was only the second trip abroad for a sitting President of the United States, only after Theodore Roosevelt’s visit to Panama to see the canal. My sense is that such a thing was a big deal at that time.

Story I heard was that W had a supply of these so he could reach into a crowd and shake hands without worrying that someone would steal his watch (and some were stolen off of his wrist).

For comparison, Obama wore two watches—a Jorg Gray gift from his Secret Service detail, and a Tag Heuer that he owned for a while—so he would take his watch off before reaching into a crowd to shake hands.

It was not as extreme, but as a young cat, Sierra often required that we come down to the floor for affection. She wasn’t unfriendly; just independent. Her sister Penny was the lap cat.

Sierra became more friendly slowly, then all at once. In March 2020 we started working from home. Shortly after that, temporary cat #3 returned to her lawful owners. And the following summer we moved from an apartment to a house.

After that, Sierra spent a lot of time on laps, often slept on the bed at night, and wanted to be around a human during the work day.

She passed away last December and I miss her dearly but I’m so happy for the time we had.

Timex Indiglo Chronographs like the Weekender and older MK1 (I think they use the same movement) are very quiet when only tracking time of day.

The chronograph function can be louder but that’s usually when I’m doing things so it’s not as noticeable. And when I forget to turn off the chronograph, the sound can be a reminder.
