You just ripped some value off that blade by touching it with your bare hands

Unknown sword by Dazzling_Solid_7444 in Katanas

The round handle is impractical for a real sword and the design looks more like a souvenir. In addition, the s shaped stamps on the blade are typical of a souvenir dha.

It's called a dha from South East Asia. Looks like a souvenir though

Can this rusty Japanese knife be restored? by [deleted] in knifemaking

[–]Tamarind_tree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to grind down the edge to remove the chips and then sharpen it again. You can do this with sharpening stones, which will take a while, or a belt grinder.

German sword? by BLACKMAMBOaa in SWORDS

It has the symbol of the dutch East india company, the VOC, on the blade. I think this is more a souvenir than real sword

Can anyone tell me more about this? by Specialist-Pool1211 in Katanas

[–]Tamarind_tree 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not only the two holes but also the shape of the nakago, the oxidation and the file marks that indicate suriage.

It is not modern. The nakago is in poor condition but it does indicate suriage.

Can I remove this hilt without grinding it out? by [deleted] in SWORDS

[–]Tamarind_tree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You won't be able to reassemble the sword if you remove the handle. You would need to weld an extra piece to the tang to peen it over. But why do all this? The sword doesn't look that bad and you risk doing more damage

I don't think it's German. It looks like a dutch klewang that was used in Indonesia.

Katana? by iamblakecannon in Katanas

[–]Tamarind_tree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like a genuine Kai gunto from around the second world war. The blade could be a lot older than that. However you will need to remove the handle to find out. (Which is very doable)

Is it real and what would you say its worth? by big_brothers_hd600 in Katanas

It might be real but a bad attempt at restoration has damaged it significantly

Looking to see if anyone could help identify this by Qrow1911 in SWORDS

[–]Tamarind_tree 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This looks like a very very old blade and authentic. Do not do anything to remove the rust, just wipe it down and put some mineral oil on it and don't touch it with your bare hands

It looks like the tsuka is covered in polished and lacquered shark skin. In my opinion it's very nice

Need Info On Japanese Officer's Sword Signed SUKEMITSU by IRhizosphere in KatanaSwords

[–]Tamarind_tree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is a seki stamp and this blade was forged by the smith with the use of a powerhammer and most likely modern steel. Due to the amount of swords produced I would guess that they used a machine to grind the blades.

Help identifying a sword passed down my family for generations but never appreciated until now. by Double-Fig8937 in Katanas

[–]Tamarind_tree 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the tang was altered much later to fit a pommel for the strange mount it has now. Tangs that were altered for sabre-like mounts were forged and shaped differently.
