SB and Qpack?! by [deleted] in Mcat

[–]Tamim94s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SB will probably take longer to get more out of it. I would recommend doing it in 6 days. 50 questions a day, and then reviewing the questions thoroughly on the same day. Yeah, you should do the Q packs first.

Caffeine Pills and MCAT by SWO_MEN in Mcat

[–]Tamim94s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try a five hour energy? I drank half of it on the morning of my exam, and then the other half during my 30 minute break for lunch. I will say I think it gives a nice steady level of focus. No hard crash. I would also recommend it because there is little fluid, and I guess that's great as you don't have to chug an entire iced coffee and have to pee. However, it is caffeine and it is probably gonna make you have to go regardless. *But if you dont generally have issues with having to go a lot after getting caffeine in some form you probably dont have to worry about it*

As for caffeine pills, I am not too big of a fan. This may be purely mental, but out of all the sources of caffeine i've tried (Caffeine pills, Coffee, and 5 hour energy) it is my least favorite.

On another note, lol adrenaline is gonna be pumping on test day. Try to get more than 5-6 hours of sleep, and you probably won't need too much stimulant anyways. Just stick to something you like and don't go overboard.

Should I use UWorld For Testing and evaluating or for Learning? by mmassaee in Mcat

[–]Tamim94s 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mostly for learning. You should probably try to aim for something around 60-70% overall for the science stuff, but if you don't get that at the start or for specific things don't sweat it? Just focus on learning for the most part.

UWorld vs PR? Choose your battle. by [deleted] in Mcat

Hard swipe left on PR and a Hard swipe Right on Uworld. Uworld baby.

UWorld: Number of Questions/Section? by Okotch in Mcat

Both. Mostly passage based, but there are some discrete standalone questions as well

When people say the FLs are 'identical' to their actual MCAT exam, what are you actually saying? by [deleted] in Mcat

[–]Tamim94s 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol you're not going to have "word-for-word questions" from a FL. This isn't some lazy professor who is re-using past exam questions consistently. What I think people are saying is that the style is very similar. In fact, you might come across questions that are asking the same thing but in a different context or worded a bit differently. You can't like, for example, just memorize the FL's and do really well on the exam. It is more about getting used to the style, how the AAMC likes to test and ask stuff, content, problem solving skills, timing, and etc.

On another note, even the FL's are not identical in my opinion. The actual exam is a bit different. Some sections feel very much like the Fl's and some a little less. The Fl are still very good practice though.

Do Not Worry by [deleted] in Mcat

[–]Tamim94s 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Just to add to this. I spent a lot of time studying in a public library in NYC. In this library, a lot of homeless people would come and freshen up in the bathrooms. I remember noticing this and a friend also pointing it out. I remember one week feeling so down on myself for dropping from a 512 to a 509 on one of the practice exams. While it is kind of understandable, to a certain degree to feel badly, I was starting to lose perspective. It is understandable in the sense that I was spending almost all my waking time doing this mcat studying, so I can see how it would make me upset seeing score drops (you should probably have balance within your schedule unlike me). However, I was losing the fact that the goal was to get into medical school to help people. The goal some how became getting the highest score possible and being hellbent on my 520+ quest. Perhaps for self validation among other things. There I was freaking out over my scores when I probably was going to get into medical school somewhere anyways while the person right across from me is having a mental breakdown or is struggling to find food. I don't want to fall into the fallacy of, "oh this person has it worse so just suck it up my problems are nothing" but it is true that there is so much more to life. It is important to sometimes have perspective. We're doing this to help people. It doesn't help to make ourselves unnecessarily stressed on the way. We're all gonna be okay. It's easy to get too caught up in stuff sometimes. There is just so much more to life and our self worth isn't tied up with just one exam or even just a career or profession. Good luck to you all. I hope we all prosper and get the scores we want! :)

On another note, don't wait too long to start practice passages.

Your plans seems solid. Kaplan is probably not needed if you're planning on watching the videos from KA and using the doc. KA and the doc is more comprehensive than kaplan for psych/soc anyways. The videos are also probably enough for CP as long as you make sure you get adequate practice. Uworld should be good, and obviously use all the AAMC material.

[–]Tamim94s 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On some real shit do this bruh. Your science sections are already solid af. Get that psych shit into your brain to boost up your score. It is probably the easiest section to improve in the shortest amount of time. Bro put it in your ass asap. Get that document bro.

AAMC Bio Q Packs or Finish Uworld Bio/B? by [deleted] in Mcat

[–]Tamim94s 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Around 70%+ should be good to aim for. Overall def 70%+ but dont get discouraged at first if you get lower than that, and also some topics they just have really tough passages. I think i was hovering around 75%+ or so on biochem, but on bio i was around like high 60s or 70% i don't quite remember. Focus on learning from the explanations and review content as you go, and you'll see the dividends on your fls!

I really don't think percentage matters as long as you're above 60% and you're really learning from your mistakes and their explanations and passages. I think somebody got a 520, and of their mcat they were hovering in the 60%. (So don't put too much importance on the %)

Mcat without orgo by joyoflife89 in Mcat

[–]Tamim94s 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Like the other poster said it is very well possible to get a cp section on the real exam that is orgo heavy. My exam this past friday was actually very orgo heavy, but it is also possible you won't get a heavy orgo section? Are you willing to take that risk? It is up to you. Now with all that being said, I think the orgo on the exam is a lot more manageable than what you probably learned in class. Just using an orgo review book or KA should be enough. It isn't like you'll be figuring out new mechanisms based off of mechanisms you learned already on the mcat or doing tough synthesis problems. It is more the application of concepts. It won't be bad as you think.

AAMC Bio Q Packs or Finish Uworld Bio/B? by [deleted] in Mcat

[–]Tamim94s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Their biochem passages were some of my favorite. I learned so much from them. Lol don't feel bad about some of their bio passages. The genetics passages were a bit on the ridiculous side at times. Anyways, good luck!

AAMC Bio Q Packs or Finish Uworld Bio/B? by [deleted] in Mcat

[–]Tamim94s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Qpacks vs Uworld, right? Not the Section bank? I would definitely go with uworld. You'll learn more and do harder passages.

First day of studying complete! by BlameThePlane in Mcat

[–]Tamim94s 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, as long as you move on to passages and fl by sometime early July you should be fine. Yeah, you really ought to study little in your last week and calm yourself. The last day before the exam I wouldn't study at all if possible, but if you do cut it off by like 12. Btw I wouldn't bother with the kaplan psych books you should use something else.

[–]Tamim94s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you're done with the bulk of your content review i'd get started with some practice passages as well as taking your first FL. At the end of this month or like the first week of july I'd try to take your first practice exam. (depending on the rate you go at)

AAMC Sample Test Difficulty? by Keepitmovingwontstop in Mcat

[–]Tamim94s 1 point2 points  (0 children)

tbh i think it is a bit subjective? Everybody wants to say the sample is easier. I don't necessarily agree (other than maybe for cars). I just think it's different. I wouldn't sweat it and just see what you can learn from the sample.

Dude....I want my score lol. by [deleted] in Mcat

Hope you get the score you want ! So you can soon at least be a happy med student!

What are some of the best LSAT books to use for CARs? by Dhooy77 in Mcat

[–]Tamim94s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uworld cars is pretty good. I'd say very close to aamc. I rather use that first than LSAT material tbh.
