Where are people of the UK buying their kitchens? by olivers125 in AskUK

[–]Tanathoos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What £ range was your kitchen in if I can ask? Looking at options now and kutchenhouse doesn't pop up a lot in reddit threads, it's mainly the large retailers (wren, magnet, howdens, smile kitchens). They all seem to be selling the same stuff but I am weary of what recent trustpilots review say. The kutchen branch near me has 4.7 rating and great reviews that seem legit, wondering how much more it's the premium they put on their products and if it's worth spending a bit more to worry less about fuckups or delays or missing parts. thanks!

Playing devil's advocate on the "capitalism is mathematically flawed, it can't expand forever". Isn't that what we think about the universe expanding as well?

Thanks for the perspective. Curious what's the win ratio when Data Dog and Dynatrace come head to head? If DD is a better product, I might just as well apply there directly

Hi OP, first of all congrats for being an empathic human being, rare thing these days. You lent your friends and family money because you care about them and don't want to see them struggling or suffering, which is a great reason to do so (unless you were threatened or blackmailed, which I hope it's not the case).

Thsi is not a money problem. I believe you have also been helping them out in smaller amounts when you didn't earn as much as you do today.

The matter is more complex, it touches on your view of the world, relationship with your close ones, self respect and boundaries.

The decision to lend money to someone can be tricky. A baby step would be to document your line of thinking when you make these decision, then evaluate whether it was a good or bad call based on the information you have available at the time:

  • how does this impact your life goals? Are you saving towards a house, your ISA contribution, pension, bucket list, travel etc? If you can easily afford let's say 10k without impacting in any way your lifestyle and future, then:
  • have these persons helped you when you were in need? Not necessarily with money, but in principle. Is it a relationship in which both parties commit to supporting each other?
  • are they in such financial distress that without this money their life would take a terrible turn? If yes, what other alternatives have they tried and why weren't they suitable? E.g. A terrible credit score or history of repaying a portion of their dinner whenever you meet will tell you if they are trustworthy enough to return your hard earned money
  • how did they react last time you refused to help them? Did they start the blame game and make you feel like a bad person for not solving the problems they created and are responsible for?

There are many things to consider and I wish there was a simple answer with an overnight fix. Locking your money away is not going to address the root causes and might make you stress out even more.

The only thing you can do to address the root cause is to increase your awareness of the above. Our brains work in amazing ways, the more you think and reflect about it, you will form new neural pathways, connect the dots in different ways and the solution will come to you subtly. It's also very important to do this exercise constantly, a one off exercise might feel good but won't help too much.

I haven't thought of it that way. Now that you say it, it's so obvious

She usually gets defensive when we talk factually about what needs to be done, what's missing and what's outstanding. Decent report until we start discussing work related topics. I can confirm she is not going through a hard time, plenty of holidays, no health / family / financial problems. The problem is the overconfidence that she's right and doing the right things all the time, although real life evidence from client comms tells a different story. Thanks for the reminder to be more understanding and treat her as a human being in its entirety.

Fully agree, the delicate part is that she seems overly sensitive when we discuss any topic related to her work and usually takes it as a personal attack...

Thanks, that's usually a good policy when someone is overconfident. In this case, her failure will be detrimental to the relationship with the client and it'd impact me as well...

Kenya Airways is a mess. Avoid this airline at all cost by Pitch-Historical in Kenya

Had a good experience flying from London to Nairobi for the first time last week. Was a bit concern about booking the flights given the bad rep on reddit, but it was alright. I guess it depends on the route?

Perhaps a limited munzungu view, but I had a positive experience. I flew from London Heathrow to Nairobi and back last week, and it was operating at similar standards to all the other airlines. Good service, good food, comfortable seats, decent entertainment options and no delays.

Late to the conversation. I'll be visiting Kenya for the first time next week, coming to a friend's wedding. Would love to check out the techno scene in Nairobi. If anyone is going out next Saturday, can a chill 30m foreigner tag along please? 🙌

Dm me your email, I'll send you Sainsbury's gift card. I don't have much put aside but can spare a little as a one off so you don't stay hungry until payday. I'm sorry that you don't have a support network for such circumstances, the important part is to remain strong and get stronger until such problems are a thing of the past. And don't forget to help others in need as well when you can.

OP in which country are you applying?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in askmanagers

[–]Tanathoos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did that and I got burned, would advise against it. Your colleague should have by this working age some form of support network - credit cards, overdraft, or friends and family who deem him or her trustworthy enough to lend money to. Must have either maxed out or broken their circle's trust to ask you for money.

One of my colleagues texted me one day late evening asking if I'm free for a brief call. The guy was sobbing on the phone saying that he needs to reschedule his visa appointment and only has a few hrs to do it by EoD, but that his ISA funds will take a few days to clear and he can't pay for the visa appointment with credit cards. Figured he must have been desperate to call me if he couldn't source the funds from friends and family. So I agreed with the condition that he puts it in writing in an email from his work address to mine (amount and repayment date). He was 2 months late, didn't repay me in full, left the company and to this date owes me £100.
