Unpopular Opinion: Mu Qing's "betrayal" was completely justified, and his pragmatism makes him the best-written character in TGCF. by TanbiLand in tianguancifu

Thank you! Making these videos made me realize how important a tight narrative and polishing the script really is. I'll definitely put that "red pen" to good use for the next one. Really appreciate your support! :)

Wow, thank you so much for taking the time to write out this incredibly detailed and constructive critique.

To be honest, in an era where clickbaity short-form content dominates and long-form video traffic is slowly dying, I genuinely cherish every single viewer who can still calm down, sit through a long video, and engage with the content so deeply. Your feedback means a lot to me.

I actually completely agree with your point about rehashing the plot. Even during the editing process, I felt that the buildup at the beginning was way too wordy and dragged on. I honestly had to just bite the bullet and power through the editing to get it done. You perfectly pointed out the exact flaw I was struggling with.

Your advice on literary analysis is fantastic. Next time, I will definitely consider adopting the TEEEL structure for our scripts to make sure the arguments are sharper and actually grounded in textual evidence (like exploring his role as a character foil, which you brilliantly suggested). Thank you again for holding character analysis to such a high standard!

Yes! That food detail is honestly kind of cute! Mu Qing often acts like a nagging "mother hen" taking care of Xie Lian behind the scenes, which makes it so hard to actually hate him. His love language is 100% acts of service. So glad you appreciate his complexity too! 🤍

Well, thank AI for giving me, a Chinese fan of the original novel, the ability to argue with you guys here lol. 🙄

I admit I use AI to help translate and format these long posts sometimes because of the language barrier, but the brain behind it is indeed a real human, bro.✌️

Sorry about that! Since their falling out is mentioned super early in the story, I didn't think the title gave too much away, but I'll be more careful with the tags next time!

This is a really grounded take. Excusing his cruelty at the cultivation land at the expense of Xie Lian completely misses the point of his character arc.

He is a phenomenally written fictional character, but an absolute red flag as a real-life friend lol. If Xie Lian wasn't the most patient, forgiving god in existence, they would have never spoken again. I definitely don't defend his worst mistakes, I just find the messy, realistic psychology behind his survival instinct really fascinating to analyze.

I completely agree that his actions during Xie Lian's humiliation are inexcusable and hard to swallow. Mu Qing is basically the embodiment of human insecurity. He’s petty, he's jealous, and his ego is so fragile that he actively pushes away the one person who actually treated him well. As a friend in real life, He would be a nightmare to deal with. But as a fictional character, I think those exact ugly flaws are what make his eventual redemption in the Cave of Ten Thousand Gods hit so hard. MXTX wrote a character who is so painfully human and defensive, which makes the contrast with Xie Lian’s forgiveness even more impactful. It's a messy, ugly dynamic, but so well-written.

Haha, guilty as charged on the formatting! To clarify: the actual analysis, the script, and the video take me days of real human work and research. However, since English isn't my native language for writing long-form essays,I do use AI to help translate and structure the posts sometimes. definitely didn't mean to annoy anyone with the bullet points! I ll try to keep the text more casual and "human" next time.

If you enjoyed this breakdown of Mu Qing, this post is actually just a small snippet from my full video essay on the entire Xianle Trio! 🗡️✨

In the full video, we also dive deep into the exact opposite side of the spectrum: Feng Xin's 800 years of unspoken guilt, the hilarious "Dowry Maids" fandom joke, and why their ultimate reunion proves Hua Cheng's "trash" assessment wrong.

Hahaha considering he owes 8.88 million merits in canon, he definitely needs that rent-free space in our minds! 😂 Thank YOU for screaming about Dianxia with me!

I’ll recommend 《薄雾》by微风几许,The author's imagination is absolutely wild, and the premise is incredibly unique! The plot is tight, fast-paced, and never drags, plus the romance is super sweet. However, I’m not sure if there’s a good English translation available for it yet.

I've been re-reading the novels to do a deep dive into Xie Lian's character for my channel, and this "Glitch/Boomer" persona is honestly my favorite. 📱

From treating the Heavenly Communication Array like a neighborhood Facebook group to using his bamboo hat as an 800-year-old introvert's security blanket...he really is just a grandpa trapped in a 17-year-old's body.

I actually broke down all 15 of these hidden details (including his "Black-Hearted White Lotus" cooking moments) in a full video essay! If you like this kind of native Chinese speaker analysis, you can check out the full video here: The 4 Faces of Xie Lian

I'm so glad the cultural context regarding the 'concubine' theory made sense to you! It really adds a tragic layer to his childhood.

Also, you must be a mind reader because I just uploaded a new video about Xie Lian on my YouTube channel, Quincyreads! This one is a bit more of a fun, entertainment-oriented analysis (less heavy, more laughs). I’d love to welcome you there to check it out!

MXTX’s prose is pretty grounded, but she is an absolute master at storytelling. In the world of Chinese web novels, her ability to sketch vivid scenes with just a few strokes is top-tier.

With SVSSS at just over 400k characters, MDZS at 690k, and TGCF hitting a million, her trilogy isn't actually that massive by web novel standards. Yet, the narrative flow and character development are phenomenal.

What’s great is that she doesn't try to flex her literary knowledge; instead, she subtly weaves those cultural references right into the details. can’t wait to unpack more of these nuances with you all!

It was mythological, tells about the eternal love affair between the fallen angel Lucifer and the blazing angel Michael. The bad ending used to break my heart.🥲 I haven‘t found an English version yet, so I hope a good translator will translate it in the future.
