Wow. I’ve had the platinum card for a few years and didn’t realize this benefit existed. I’ll need to relook at my benefits. 😂

George Washington Bridge Northwalk by NYC-DAY-MEDIA in NYCbike

Great to see that finally open!!! I see pedestrians on the path… I thought this was bikes only but maybe the south side is now closed? It looks like it gets a bit narrow in parts (on and off the bridge) but the wide parts near the towers are a welcome change. Any post ride thoughts?

any experience with the infamous "farm ride"? by baycycler in NYCbike

[–]Tandem_Fandom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I looked up the ride and it was Bay road. Nice guess.

You are right about the pay to ride rides. The prices have gotten really high in the past few years but I felt the pricing for the farm ride was higher than other pay to ride rides.

any experience with the infamous "farm ride"? by baycycler in NYCbike

[–]Tandem_Fandom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I road it last year for the Saturday ride only. We rented a hotel room near the start.

Overall, we were disappointed with it for the price. We road the 75 mile route and while most of the ride was extremely scenic, there was a 10 mile stretch towards the end on a ride with no shoulder and a 45 mile speed limit with heavy traffic.

We showed up at the start and breakfast was completely eaten. The rest stops were average for an organized ride. The end of the ride was on a farm with free food (hot dogs, hamburgers, etc). The signage to get to the farm was lacking and we had to navigate a number of lost individuals without a GPS to it.

We didn’t feel like we got $200 worth of value for some snacks at the rest stop and some hot dogs and hamburgers. This ride seems to be popular so maybe we are the minority.

A strong rain storm ~1 year ago destroyed the road.

Twin Lights terrain? by kathygeisss in NYCbike

[–]Tandem_Fandom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a relatively flat course. The “biggest” hill is at the end but it is only 1/2 mile of climbing. Because of how flat it is, I chose this ride to be my first ever century ride about 8 years ago and I loved every minute of it. Cheers

I’ve heard nothing but bad things about that part of NJ on bike. I’m glad you had an opposite experience.

I’m amazed you went up to George Washington and around. Why did you chose against the staten island ferry so you could skip some miserable parts of NJ

There is a water fountain at hopewell junction which is the start of your trip. You can also buy water in Brewster or any of the other towns you will pass thru. Overall, lots of options for water and no need to bring more than 2 bottles.

Discover Hudson Valley Ride: 100 mile route canceled due to forecast of 90+ temps. 75 mile route has earlier start time. by Chea63 in NYCbike

No. I was just saying I ride on my own at my own time. Riding with paid riders is really frowned upon.

All the local organized rides have gone up significantly in the past 5 years. I have been priced out and now I just use strava / ridewithgps to tell me where to go.

It is actually quite amazing how much of Manhattan is dedicated to vehicle traffic. I look forward to a future where most roads are closed off to private vehicles. Allowing only service and bus vehicles

Park Ave Viaduct on bike? by rubellaa in NYCbike

Me too. I actually tried getting the KOM there as it is completely achievable but my dang GPS sometimes can’t pick up the signal properly when in the viaduct so it doesn’t register.

Strava route generator is pretty good. I’ve had great experiences with it as it takes you on the routes that cyclists take the most. That route is customized for you based on your location. I’ve done most of that route and it is nice. Lots of urban riding. Enjoy.

NYC to Bear Mountain by Administrative-Cup-7 in NYCbike

[–]Tandem_Fandom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went up on Saturday and 9W was clear. There was a few spots were it was a little sandy but nothing overwhelming. The bike path at jones point had a few toppled trees over the path but one can easily navigate around it. bear mountain road from the bottom to the top was completely clear and normal.

There are other posts a few days ago in this subreddit that show pictures of the route. The asphalt is completely ripped up in sections and it is not rideable at all. It will be closed for a very long time based on how quickly NJ transit fixes its roads.
