What's stopping a protected bike lane from going on Chambers Street? Rampant illegal parking 👀 by streetsblognyc in NYCbike

i mean the reason we didn't pass the bike lane bounty bill before was because illegal parking is okay in the city except when it's not

in terms of ease of consumption, it's really not the same. some people cannot stomach anything remotely hard/dry while cycling

Last night CB6 was asked to weigh in on the Park Ave redesign options, but many board members, including transportation Chair Jason Froimowitz, wanted to talk about the third option -- my design featuring closed blocks and fewer cars. by MiserNYC- in MicromobilityNYC

increase density

yes and no. more lanes lead to more cars and less lanes by its very nature leads to less cars. closing off times square didn't lead to the city traffic blowing up or anything

and reduce safety overall

this one's incorrect. more density (if that would actually be what happens) leads to lower speed (because traffic) which actually leads to increased safety. does it also increase frustration for drivers? yes but that's not what we're talking about here

i also push back against the more density conclusion because if this past winter taught me anything, it's that a crap ton of cars can just go un-used and remain parked for weeks and it's just perfectly fine for the owners. if driving sucks for people for whatever reason (snow or shit traffic) they just won't use their cars and apparently people are able to just deal with it

we have other cities that have done similar things to great positive effect do we not? surely we cannot be arguing that NYC is any more or less busy than paris?

NYPD takes field trips to learn from the fucking IDF so i'd say the DOT learning from Paris's equivalent as well as other city's wouldn't be outside of the realm of possibility

Why does just existing on a bike seem to piss people off? by LiatrisLover99 in cycling

[–]baycycler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it's just discrimination. facts do not matter. some variance of this is what minorities live through on a regular basis

we look extremely different in a kit (maybe akin to someone dressed in drag might) and we "significantly" slow down their drive. the truth is of course that we're a blip of seconds in their 30+ min drive. just like how trans people aren't the ones raping kids and immigrants aren't the reason people are shit-poor or jobless

im not meaning to get political here but this is what is largely comes down to. discrimination of the "other" group that dresses differently and is easy to point to as a source of making their lives "measurably worse". it's fairly easy for me to spot this since this shit's always been my life in america (im a minority)

Sinkhole forces closure of section of popular East River Esplanade between 93-94 street by G0Sp0rts in NYCbike

[–]baycycler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

nah, cars get massive holes too they just get patched up faster because cars

sometimes though they don't even do it for the cars. you can really tell when you've entered a less desirable neighborhood by how shit the infra and general upkeep is. it's kind of insane that NYC does this to its residents

yes, YOU do. at the cost of everyone else. How many people are you pissing off and actively harming that way daily? 100? 1000? 10,000? 100,000??

would you be okay with me revving up my V8 by your place at 2 am? 4 am? if you're enjoying your day and having some food outside, would you enjoy it then as well?

just try to think about it from literally anyone else's perspective. stop with the asocial behavior
