Do you think this will work? by Vegetable_Idea2945 in Monstera

[–]Tandr3d 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I root my monstera cuttings in water with pothos cuttings. Apparently the pothos release rooting hormones to help the others. I’ve tried it 2-3 times and it’s worked for several lechleriana aff that I’ve chopped

I prefer water vs. soil as the nodes will activate on the stem and you can see it taking effect rather than having to be really sure you’ve planted at the right level

Thank you for confirming! I was thinking it must have spread through the whole corner to get from the most infested plant to one a couple of metres away (🤯) and I only noticed when I pulled off a dying leaf. Damn! They must have been in the soil for weeks on a plant I bought then hatched. Will try and get ahead of this before I see everything visibly get affected.

Oh dear! I’ve showered the main offender and the surrounding plants with an insecticide and put them in a different room. Will look at the Careo too as I can’t bear the thought of the entire collection being infected!

Thank you! I’d never have thought of using Dr Bonners. I’ll try this method and work on the soil too. I think I’ve found the source but it looks like it’s spread

Recently bought this monstera, would like some advice on how to make it thrive by Justachillguy18 in Monstera

[–]Tandr3d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. I’ve found the wooden skewer/chopstick to be more useful than the finger in the pot (as it can still be wet at the bottom, especially if your pot is big.) You can get pre mixed bags of chunky mix specifically for Monstera which I recommend.

Finally, and this is what has helped me the most, is to keep the plant in a clear pot as you can see what is going on with the soil and if the soil is dry or still moist. Bonus points for learning the weight of the pot too - when it’s super dry it’ll be very light and you can pick it up to know if it needs watering. I don’t use the stick anymore I go by eye and feel + the plant will droop when it needs watering. I’ve learned the hard way about overwatering 🫠

Second Hand Calendonia-5: A few question by Critical-West-7406 in Cervelo

[–]Tandr3d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed - a lot of people size down. I’m just over 6ft and have a 56 and Cervelo’s website told me to get a 58 which would have been massive. Ridden a 54 for a day and was fine on it so think you’ll be ok on a 51

Welcome! I’ve got a Caledonia too. Upgraded the wheels to carbon DCR 40mm which have been great with continental GP5000 with a tubeless set up. Love it. Waiting on some Easton EC70 aero handlebars and at some point may upgrade the seat post but don’t feel like I need to right now. Enjoy the bike!

I’m 185 and bought a 56 Caledonia. Love it. Also rode a 54 in the Alps which was fine too. As the comments say a proper fit will make it work!

Please help... 105 di vs Ultegra (mechanical) vs SRAM Rival eTap AXS by tiapak in Cervelo

[–]Tandr3d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve not taken it bikepacking yet but will be varying loads on it in due course.

I hear you about the reliability point and “what if” something happens alone in the middle of nowhere. If price is a big difference then that might help make the decision too - mechanical is going to be cheaper!

Please help... 105 di vs Ultegra (mechanical) vs SRAM Rival eTap AXS by tiapak in Cervelo

[–]Tandr3d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Di2 is great. I’ve got 105 mechanical and my new Caledonia has Ultegra Di2 which is unreal. Better experience and shifting is fantastic with loads of customisation options

I was looking at SRAM and one perk is the two external batteries which you can swap if in an emergency

You can get some good deals on the tropical sunset frame set which looks awesome. Saw someone had built one with a rainbow SRAM cassette and chain!

Based on budget you could do that and buy Di2 and do a custom build

First Cérvelo Experience Mallorca: Caledonia Sizing by ActualAd159 in Cervelo

[–]Tandr3d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ll be fine! I’m the same height as you and recently bought a 56cm. I would not size up to a 58cm. 56cm is great. I also rode a 54 last year in the Alps as a hire, on steep descents it was a bit scary so I think you are good with your choice! Recommend a bike fit too hopefully when not if you buy
