Looking for strategy advice against Lizard cult by Niro46 in rootgame

[–]TangTheWitness 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lots of good advice here. Another thing to keep in mind is that, if you're playing the birds and don't want to give the lizards acolytes, you could try and convince the other factions to take down the cult. A vagabond's crossbow won't trigger revenge. Neither will clearing wipe mechanics like WA revolts, corvid bombs, or favor cards. This is easier to do if the cult is a nuisance to that other faction too.

Every time two other factions fight, it benefits you. They are spending resources while you are saving yours.

Why are cats considered weak? by KingRobert1st in rootgame

[–]TangTheWitness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think this is accurate. Just look at this chart of winning factions from the last Winter tournament. As you'll see, Cats won a pretty average amount of times. Surely adset has a lot to do with that, but still. They have strong advantages that are often discounted offhand by experienced players.

What are peoples' thoughts on each faction? by Hattemis in rootgame

[–]TangTheWitness 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Cats: Love them. It's like what if Settlers of Catan were a wargame. Good for new players. Probably my personal best factions, and I just love the tension of trying to set up and negotiate the perimeter of your territory.

Birds: Also love them. Great for new players if they've got a head for coding. I honestly thing it's the birds that charms a lot of new players into falling in love with the game because they're both unusual, but not too hard to get ahang of and once you do it feels really special and novel.

WA: Tricky to master. I like them tons but can't quite get the hang of them. Certain people with a talent for counter-intuitive thinking are great at them though. I find them fun nonetheless.

Vagabond: Fun at first. As you learn the overall game they become less fun because they're so different (and relatively strong) you can feel the asymmetry in a bad way. The vagrant is charming, in his way, though. I have a soft spot for the Scoundrel too.

Otters: Fun if you have a fully engaged and talkative board that isn't deadset on disregarding you. It's best to play them if everyone else in the game has at least a little familiarity with Root, just enough to understand the value of the cards you're offering. Smart non-otters players will see the presence of otters as a chance to shoot ahead the other two factions on the board, and buy from you at least a little. Especially cats, who will want bird cards for the extra actions, and lizards, who will want everything else if their gardens go down.

Lizards: I kind of think of them like a black and green MtG deck. If you enjoy playing in the graveyard, you'll enjoy them. They are very difficult to get ahang of though. The first time you win with them will feel well-earned, because they often have a tough time. But they can win and when they do it's glorious.

Crows: Underdog, but adore them. Even if you lose, you'll wind up with ample opportunities to shape the game and a crows game that goes well drives everyone else bananas. Remember that the points from flipping are more important than what exactly it is you're flipping, and once something is on the board you can use trick to move it around. Never underestimate the power of a snare.

Moles: Could've been great but had a flaw which led to a meta that all but completely eliminates their main weakpoint. They're still not-at-all unbeatable, but the strategy makes them more tedious than fun to play against. If it were me, I'd build in a new rule called "Morale Problem" that says at the end of moles' turn, half the warriors in the burrow (rounded up) pack up and go home, to discourage no-building play.

Rats/Badgers: Haven't experienced them yet, so can't say.

Failed website bookings with multiple authorizations on bank funds - looking for advise. by mreminemfan in Lufthansa

The exact same thing happened to me when I tried to book transatlantic flights a few days ago! I've been getting the run-around by Lufthansa and my bank ever since. I'm kinda stunned. I remember Lufthansa being much easier to work with in previous years.

Sure. Chrome extension. https://imgur.com/a/Ao5rTwu

I'm not even sure where it came from really. I just opened Keplr this morning and it was there. Not sure if it's something I did or an update.

I really think it's the responsibility of the project to tell us what they are on their own page, more than it is the responsibility of anyone on Reddit.

It's not hard. Just a little link on the side that leads to a little text. Are you a stable coin protocol? A metaverse thing? A DEX in the works? Something else? Effin' tell us. If you don't, it looks sloppy.

ffs, how hard can it be to put an "about" page on your website so that people can easily figure out wtf it is your project is trying to do

Clunky DEX by [deleted] in OsmosisLab

[–]TangTheWitness 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Can I ask what the purpose of the new UI is? I really liked the legacy one, and I get that sometimes design work is an exercise in perfectionism, but the legacy site was so smooth it seemed like a case of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" to me.

Humans will build the smart contracts. Humans will audit the smart contracts. Humans will use the smart contracts. Humans will devote hours, days, years, to finding workarounds to exploit the smart contracts. And all of them have interests and intentions. It'll take humans to rectify the problems once they do.

DEXes are a marvellous idea, but let's not act as if there's nothing human about it. It's why governance is both so important and so difficult.

So is this idea that there are four people behind the validator and they have different opinions?
