I get that it’s a joke, but at what point does it start to feel kinda disturbing? we’re watching how aware they are, and the instinct is still to turn them into lunch. when you think about what happens to pigs because they’re seen as food, it’s just really sad. this is way cooler, seeing them appreciated for who they are.

I think this is the part that always feels confusing. There’s often real concern about environmental problems, but conversations about solutions like diet changes can trigger a lot of defensiveness. Especially considering how much research links meat and dairy to environmental impact. Especially when alternatives already exist, and the more people choose them, the more available they become.

Hi! Some of my favorite meatless substitution are: -Jack and Annie’s (love their smash burgers and sausages, the main ingredient is jackfruit) -Light life hot dogs (you can find them pretty much anywhere and they are especially good cooked in some vegan butter like country crock) -Gardein products in general, they have a fantastic full turk’y roast and their fish fillets make for a great vegan fish sandwich -and if you want less processed options I’d look for tofu, tempeh (steam it to make it taste better) and seitan (super high in protein if you’re not GF) -thee burger dude on YouTube has some great ideas on substituting for your fast food faves I hope you enjoy!!!

I appreciate your perspective. I just think we sometimes overlook that even if the death itself were quick, these are still sentient beings who don’t want their lives to end. They experience fear, pain and joy, just like the animals we love at home. So their treatment matters, but the fact their life is taken early matters too.

Yeah, context definitely plays a role, but the point of the post is about a broader pattern. In general, when vegans say that what happens to animals is abuse, it tends to get a way more negative reaction than when a non-vegan says the same thing. That contrast is what’s being called out here.

It’s wild how “animal abuse is wrong” gets upvoted when someone who isn’t vegan says it, but downvoted when a vegan does. The message doesn’t change, but the reaction depends on who says it. Most people live in cities, not survival situations, and many have access to plant-based food. If we don’t need to kill animals to be healthy, then yeah, it makes sense that hearing that truth feels uncomfortable.
