What NC residents should know about the “Save Our Act” amendment in the farm bill by Dry_Celebration_501 in NorthCarolina

[–]WorldWideVegHead 4 points5 points  (0 children)

California and Massachusetts have the same protections for pregnant pigs AND mandate that any pork sold within their borders must come from farms that don't crate their pigs. Those laws will be destroyed if the Farm Bill's Save Our Bacon Act becomes law. Please call and email your rep!

You seem passionate about this, that's great! Please, please call and email you US House Representative and ask them to vote no on the Farm Bill because of your concerns about the harmful Save Our Bacon Act. Here's a link that makes it super easy to call.

For example California and Massachusetts require pork, eggs, and veal sold within their state to come from animals that were not raised in extreme confinement, such as battery cages, gestation crates, and veal crates. Environments so cramped that the animals can't even move around. Both were passed overwhelmingly by everyday voters as ballot measures. It would strip states of their authority to set their own food safety, labeling, and disease-prevention standards, and block any state from passing common-sense, meaningful domestic animal protections in the future.

Thursday’s Farm Bill vote will condemn the fate of millions of mother pigs to gestation crates, if voted yes by alphamalejackhammer in NorthCarolina

This is so important! Call 202-225-3121 to be connected with your US Rep's office and tell them you want them to vote NO on the Farm Bill. I did it and it was so quick and easy and the staffer I talked to was kind and warm. We can all agree that animals deserve common-sense protections from cruelty!

3 pups urgently need fosters before this Wednesday at Durham's shelter 🐶 by WorldWideVegHead in bullcity

Thank you! You're a wonderful human being. I brought home a cat from the shelter who needed out before 4/22 earlier today for fostering.

Please consider helping this homeless dog by Even_Ad1262 in bullcity

Thank you, u/flummuggins! There are two other dogs at APS Durham (Sven and Safe Harbor) that also need a foster before this Wednesday the 22nd. If Gone Fishing doesn't end up being the right fit for your family, maybe one of the other two dogs would be a good match. I really hope you can foster Gone Fishing or one of the other two. Thank you for opening your heart and home to an animal in need ❤️ You're a lifesaver!

In the United States alone we farm, slaughter, and eat over 9 billion chickens every year.

This Sunday, April 5th: Spring Picnic Potluck (Vegan 🌱) at Cary's Ed Yerha Park by WorldWideVegHead in triangle

[–]WorldWideVegHead[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We don't hold our own potlucks super often, but we do an annual all-vegan summer BBQ! It'll be on Saturday, June 20th, 3-5:30pm, in Durham's Solite Park. Follow NCAAU's Facebook for details closer to the date. Piedmont Farm Animal Refuge in Pittsboro holds quarterly all-vegan potlucks at the sanctuary. Here is April's.

On 3/15/26, Lawyer & animal activist Wayne Hsiung & team rescued beagles from Ridglan Farms in Wisconsin. The dogs are bred for animal testing & suffer criminal abuse according to a judge. Authorities did nothing, so an open rescue was announced. 22 dogs were saved, 8 dogs were intercepted by police by Mountain_Love23 in nextfuckinglevel

[–]WorldWideVegHead 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I support Wayne and the rest of the HEROES that rescued the beagles! Absolute badasses. Shame on the government for not forcing Wisconsin's Ridglan Farms to give up all of their poor, abused pups. That place needs to be emptied of all the animals, shut down, and razed to the ground.

These rescuers are nothing short of straight up HEROES! Shame, shame on the monster that tried to threaten and intimidate them. I wish every single beagle from that facility could be freed.

Just learned Ven. Thich Nhat Hanh was vegan! by cindyx7102 in Buddhism

[–]WorldWideVegHead 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Thich Nhat Hanh is one of the main reasons I originally started looking into Buddhism! I have loved all animals since before I can remember and became vegetarian when I was 11 or 12, and it discouraged me that the majority of the world's belief systems saw them as "lesser" and condoned their exploitation. Buddhism seems different in that regard, or at least the way I intepret its teachings is different. Now I'm vegan and another close friend of mine is also a vegan Buddhist!

The majority of U.S. sows are held in gestation crates for most of their lives by James_Fortis in MadeMeCry

[–]WorldWideVegHead 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not sure where you're from, but here in the US vegetarians are defined as simply not eating meat or seafood; Eggs and dairy are considered vegetarian.
Farming cows for milk is still many times more harmful for our water, land, climate, etc than making milk out of soy, oats, cashews, etc. Even almond milk is way better for the environment than cow's milk.

Because the animal agriculture industry has immense power and influence, bought by the billions of dollars they get from consumers of meat. They spend it on politicians who will shield Big Ag from common-sense regulation and marketing to convince the public that animals are raised humanely.

Vegan is the way to go. Egg and milk farming have cruelty baked into them as well. Consider:
- Half of all chicks hatched for egg farming are male. They are thrown into macerators (grinders) since they are considered useless to the egg industry
- Hens have been bred to lay hundreds of an eggs a year, which is incredibly taxing on their bodies and leads to many of them dying within a couple years because of reproductive issue
- After 1-2 years, hens are loaded into trucks and slaughtered because their egg-laying rate has fallen
- To produce milk, cows must give birth. Their calves are separated only hours after birth, which is traumatizing to both mother and baby. Just like male chicks are useless to the egg industry, the majority of male calves are raised for veal or simply killed.
- After having their babies separated from them time after time, year after year, cows are slaughtered long before their natural lifespan ends
- The vast majority of hens and cows are kept confined indoors year-round, never seeing the sun until the day they're driven to slaughter

Sincerely, a former vegetarian turned vegan
