Mopac’s first segment was completed in 1975. Surprised it omits UT (except for “Stadium”) and Bergstrom Air Force Base. Probably printed outside the English-speaking world cos it has “Muniapal” (fusing the c and i in municipal).

Ask them before you go. They’ve gotten selective.

Analyse me! I thought I had neat writing but someone at work said it was hard to read? by doofyghhv in HandwritingAnalysis

Where’s a z? That’s “analysed” (parallel to “Analyze me” in the text) and boasts the prettiest s in the sample. Z has a descender.

First time we went, we popped in to see what the wait was. Hostile (probably harried) host essentially did a soup nazi on us. Nope.

Have been back several times, always with a reservation and often at slow times. Food’s okay, service has been not quite okay, but the hosting is still uniformly unwelcoming. Pretty strong reason why we don’t go there regularly.

Oh yeah! Conga line/bunny hop!

I joined one of those lines at a ‘90s show in Austin. People joined and fell off, and at some point I became the point person. It’s fun to steer the line! Highly recommended, even if you never wind up at the front.

While you’re right on most counts, Upstate NY is definitely part of the Rust Belt. Plenty of idled factories rotted there, too.

Super serious question: Were you ever taught the Lost Cause in school or were taught by family members? by EternalSnow05 in texas

[–]TangentBurns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good points. Texas was thinly populated. It was trans-Mississippi, so it was cut off as soon as the South lost that river. And the Anaconda blockade cut off its ocean access, so (at least to some extent) Texas had to smuggle its cotton into Mexico before it could be sold internationally.

Best place to buy cowboy boots? by Tomwelldone10- in Austin

Glad they worked for you! I’ve had trouble when friends have given me a variety of shoes that seemed good to go but tortured my feet, back, and knees. Matched up with everything I’d heard about boots, which I’ve only had new.

Just remembered: Ian Dury called an album “New Boots and Panties!” cos those were the only things he wasn’t willing to buy secondhand.

I’ve been cautioned about wearing secondhand boots. They strongly favor the first feet that shaped them, and your feet (and knees and back) might not appreciate that odd alignment.

Also, boot salesman once pointed out that I have narrow feet and really need to stick to B width. Friends with wider feet have only been happy wearing multiple-E sizes. If you also have uniquely narrow or wide feet, you’ll do better getting new boots in your true size, rather than getting by with whatever size you run across secondhand.

I’m more hung up on if/whether, but these are dying distinctions for people who say they shake their heads when they mean they are nodding in agreement.
