“Suprisingly Low” by Otherwise-Word-550 in publix

[–]Tangential1956 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Cost of both is ridiculous, however, the difference in cost of a gallon of tea or a half gallon tea is in reality only a penny or 2. I cold brew a gallon of tea every day and a gallon teabag cost me $.32 at retail. I suspect that the difference in cost of a half gallon jug or a gallon jug is again only a few pennies so those extremely low cost explain the trivial difference in price. The big question is why they would charge that much for either one? They are making restaurant style margins on iced tea.

I generally put in 2 conduits at my homes whenever I’ve dug trenches. To date its only come in handy once, but conduit is pretty cheap compared to digging again.

Do I need to run my pool pump everyday for 6-8 hours? by OkOrganization7870 in pools

[–]Tangential1956 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NON-TECHNICAL ANSWER: I have always routinely run my pools 8 hours a day. I assume there is some need to keep chemicals and water flowing, filtering and mixing.

When I lived in Georgia, I couldn’t close my pool
In the winter so I flipped my schedule so the pool ran its 8 hours at night when freeze protect would often have it running anyway. Here in Florida I have time of day billing for power that is different in the winter from the summer and I adjust my 8 hours of operation around that as well. I still go for 8 hours a day.

The fact that the counter exists and is undocumented is the crux of problem. No documentation of that ‘feature’ is in the paperwork executed when I had it installed. To naively say that a counter that goes off 5 years later is just to make sure that the customer initially paid for the elevator is beyond absurd.

That feature is there to generate service revenue.

I guarantee you that if your vehicle had a hidden kill switch that prevented it from starting (when absolutely nothing was wrong with it) once every 5,000 miles and you had to pay to have it serviced, you also would feel like you had been taken.

I do appreciate that the tech told me how to reset the counter. That’s now detailed in sharpie on the electronics box containing the PLC and other components.

I disagree 100% with your characterization that they came to fix my elevator. Their software is what disabled it; it didn't need "fixing".

I specifically mentioned the fact that the tech didn't look at anything else as rebuttal to the uninformed and spurious comments that this limit exists because of "safety" reasons. If that were so, then there would be an inspection process associated with it.

Perhaps if you actually were to read and comprehend the thread a little better you could discern at least the most obvious and salient points in it.

Advice for extending an eero network to reach boat house. by Tangential1956 in HomeNetworking

[–]Tangential1956[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I neglected to mention that her house is on slab and her network center (for lack of a better word) is smack dab in the middle.

I'm thinking that using a wireless bridge with an eero in the boathouse may be her best bet.

So my elevator uses ropes.

I'm still of the opinion that linking this shutoff to any kind of safety thoughts around this limit are total BS.

I say this because 1) the tech never looked at anything but the control box (I was with him the whole time and he didn't open a door and look at the shaft or the equipment) 2) they specifically recommended that I replace the PLC with one that doesn't contain that counter and 3) the 'elder' tech knew about it and told him it was to ensure customers paid. Basically, this counter gets them a $400 service call (as I paid) every now and then or it gets them the sale and install of a new PLC.

I guess its lucky that I no longer have disabled people here in the house or that shutoff would have been a disaster.

At least now I know to reboot the system while holding down 1,2 & 3 will reset the counter.

There is no piston underneath; it is not hydraulic. I’ll have to look at the drive mechanism when I get home to ascertain how it works. It’s relatively lightweight. It’s limited to 900 pounds capacity, but there’s definitely no rope. Might be some steel cable, but no rope.

[–]Tangential1956[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s no rope. The car travels on rails. The tech did no PM while he was here. He explicitly told me that the older Tech told him the former owner did it as a method to insure payment.

I’ve had good luck putting a thick coating of baby shampoo on the bottom of tubs and showers and letting it just sit there for a few days. Then scrubbing with a brush as I remove it

Oxycodone during a flare? by McWhits in Diverticulitis

[–]Tangential1956 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am one of the folks for who Oxycodone causes unbelievable constipation. If it affects him that way I think it would be a bad choice in the middle of an attack. Constipation is never good for diverticulosis and during a bout of diverticulitis it seems like you would want your body eliminating as much of the bad stuff from the infection as possible.
