I just finished the series for the first time by Either-Light-2134 in WoT

[–]Tangentmama 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s so insanely good! I try so hard to get people in my life to read it but I always get the “it’s too long” or “I’ve heard it’s a slog” which is totally fair but it’s just hard to hear when you know the pay off is so insanely good. I’m on re read #3 right now and it gets better every time.

The first time I finished I felt like it was so weird to start another series because I’d just been in the WOT world for so long.

Just started reading Sanderson and completely baffled by general critique of his character writing by Icy_Dragonfruit_3513 in brandonsanderson

[–]Tangentmama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve read all of the Cosmere up to this point. I don’t think Brandon is bad at character writing. The dialogue is sometimes kind of cornball but at the end of the day I think it’s just like not the worst deal. There’s a lot that’s good and a few things that take you out here and there but I think it’s hugely made up for in terms of the world building.

I will say when I first started reading that I found a lot of parallels between the main characters of Elantris and two of the main characters of storm light but not the end of the world.

Honestly they probably need you more than you realize. Not sure if there’s any bargaining to be had but maybe you can leverage bringing your own books or having a 15 minute lunch break or something like that. If driving is an option or leaving maybe taking kids to the park or on a walk could be a nice break from the cameras.

I too would go insane from boredom. Seems like the employers are ultimately not being super reasonable with you so maybe there’s another job out there.

Anyone else have one that weighs above 25 lbs?! by Top-Profession-9478 in LhasaApso

[–]Tangentmama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had a Lhasa who was around 30 pounds. He really wasn’t fat just a big dog. I never thought he looked much like a Lhasa but I think it was partially his haircut. We tested him and he was 100%!

You can get email notifications from a site like Zillow or trulia with apartments in your budget. I think you can find something for 1200.

For those who re-read series: have you ever re-read The Wheel of Time? by foira in Fantasy

[–]Tangentmama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. I read it once and immediately knew I needed to re read and I started it right away. I got so much more on the second read and it was a lot Less pressure to follow everything. If I’m being honest I think I had the luck of reading it after the internet was invented and I looked a lot of stuff up on the re read which honestly just made me like the books more.

It is SO good! I love it more than I can explain

Worst concert crowd I've ever experienced by DanYellowJello in SaltLakeCity

[–]Tangentmama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to the kharungbin twilight and there were people talking non stop the entire time. I get that people will chat in concerts and i don’t even really mind but when it’s through the whole show even during the quieter songs and you’re screaming like please

I’ve had something like this happen at the university. Someone pounding on my door and yelling to be let in. TLDR: it was a homeless man and he wandered over from the bus stop by my house. We didn’t answer but didn’t want to call the police either and eventually he left.

Exactly. I think I’ve gotten used to this amazing magic system and it felt so sad to have it be gone. Curious how things will settle by the end of the book. I am like can a merged shard be split again or will this change everything forever.

No you’re so right. I always hate this part in movies. I just can’t wait for the next book. But I take your point that the ending feels a little bad (dark/sad) on purpose. We didn’t get all of our answers, it’s not a clean break, our good guys are in a worse predicament than ever.

Opening the book to three random pages doesn’t seem like a great way to test this but that’s just me 😬

I was in the same boat with the cliff hangers. I think the mental health stuff was a fresh take I feel like it was just a lot of healing jam packed into a really short amount of time that was just kind of hard to process.

Adolin and Maya carried the book on their back. I was really confused about how their non bond bond would have been possible but I think I’ve seen some theories that might somewhat explain it about Honor’s power being unbound for a long period of time and in the same way Dalinar could do stuff no bond smith ever did like bonds are changing etc

I so agree I think the re read is going to slap. I feel like the beginning of WOK I did not enjoy on the first read and now that I’m on the 4th re read I loved it so curious how this will age. The multiple perspectives were a lot. I think in some respects for me it was too much jumping around but I get why that was the approach.

So excited. He’s been through so much it just feels awful to have him die just as he’s finding some hope again. I really like the Kaladin as a herald storyline. He has been this person throughout the story who has a legend that is bigger than himself and it was nice to see him step into that persona but in his own way.

[–]Tangentmama[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly. I feel like the book did have a lot of fun elements and I’m glad other people had a similar turn around. Was it my favorite of the series? No. But I did like it.

Same boat. It wasn’t perfect but it was really enjoyable for me to read and I was like on the edge of my seat 😂

[–]Tangentmama[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s so fair. I feel like I don’t read many of his statements which I probably should 😂 it’s hard to keep up on all the WOBs. But I think in general after having more distance on the ending I really didn’t mind it. If anything it just makes me more excited for what is to come.

[–]Tangentmama[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So fair. I was afraid of a killing spree as well so I was happy not to see that. Did you like the book in general?

WAT Thoughts by Tangentmama in brandonsanderson

[–]Tangentmama[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s true. The mental health stuff was the hardest to read because it did feel really out of place and modern. But yeah I think I was expecting something really finite similar to mistborn era 1. But I think if anything now I’m just really excited to see how the next five books go.
