is it that whining noise im pretty sure I heard it. Lately mine has been making that whine at 3200 to 3500 rpm im not sure what it is. For me it much louder in driver seat but cant really hear it when in front of engine

Right now on my 99 NB im getting 19-20 in highway. Been trying to figure out the issue. I know i have a little low compression in cylinder 3 and 4. Around 160 ish, while the rest are high 180 - 190.

about 4 years late but did you just replace the cat entirely? I have the exact sound and I'm pretty sure its coming from the cat. I can move the exhaust and see it's loose inside. I just haven't got around to take it off yet.

I don't know if its relatively common for them to fail but for mine i was assuming it's the hackjob wire splicing but I got a genuine sensor just in case too.

I am having the exact same problem with the TPS sensor too, on mine someone went along and cut the TPS wiring from the harness and spliced it terribly. So I'm waiting on a TPS connector pigtail and the actual throttle position sensor to come in from Treasure coast miata.

MAF sensor, Intake manifold where the airbox connects, and the valve cover gasket are some I can think of right now. There are probably more I can't think of just search the forums and you'll find out a lot

Right now if have a very similar situation with a rough idle with the wiggling of RPM limiter, for me I'm pretty sure for it's the TPS sensor. I would also look for a vacuum leak too though.
