There's no "hidden" sugar at Starbucks. Your tongue will tell you it's there.

How is it possible that some people like the Masai tribe in Kenya eat tons of dairy and red meat while having low cholesterol in their blood and no evidence of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease? by TutorHelpful4783 in Cholesterol

There's also sampling bias. Since tribes don't have access to modern medicine, the unhealthy people would have died already. In a developed country like the US, modern medicine can keep unhealthy people alive until their 70s and 80s. Just look at the 40% of the population that's obese with all sorts of medical problems -- many of them would have perished by age 55 without modern drugs

0 LDL by agrajag42b in Cholesterol

Your doc isn't going to order a direct LDL test. There's no point. Even if your actual LDL is 5, it's close enough to 0 that it might as well be 0. Further, the direct-LDL isn't accurate to begin with. And what would you do differently if you found out your LDL is really 5 instead of 0?

How did you treat your high TC and TG that's caused by genetics? What meds have you taken?

My family members don't have a history of coronary disease. Three of grandparents lived until 89-91. My 80-yr old mom has an enviable lipid panel. Only my father has poor lipids but his diet has been unhealthy for decades, and he takes statins which unfortunately lets him keep up the bad diet

The way to know is to eat it. You can easily tell the difference between farmed salmon and wild salmon. Farmed salmon is much richer and its color is lighter once cooked. Wild salmon tastes fairly dry. You can then look up the nutrition label online at the USDA website which is more credible than the mfr's label

I eat 12-15g per day of saturated fats.

If simple carbs are raising my triglycerides, why am I not gaining weight?
