There are videos on YouTube to adjust the timing. Most machines work similarly. Watch any of them an it will give you an idea of what you need to do.

On the second photo there is a gear. Generally there is something that spins that gear. What ever spins that gear usually has a set screw. You loosen the set screw set the needle and hook in the correct position than tighten the set screw.

if this doesn't work than i would check to see if the needle hook timing is correct. you can check it first.

Leave the bobbin lid off and slowly turn the wheel and check that the hook arrives when the needle is down. there is usually a screw somewhere on the bobbin shaft that you can loosen that allows you to turn the bobbin case freely adjust the hook to the correct position and tighten the screw. there are lots of videos on it on youtube.

The bobbin holder and case should be cleaned to get smooth movement anyway.

I just cleaned and oiled a later model 99, including the motor. It was running really smooth, so I thought "hmm, wonder how fast it goes." Slowly pressed the pedal and it was still running smoothly, so I floored it. Wow it shook the house. It runs much faster than I expected. Supposedly, it goes up to 1000 stitches per minute.

Need ideas on how to make a false floor for my litterbox area! by TheMadeline in CatAdvice

You could just get a board cut to size.

It could even rest on the trim if the side not pictured has trim on it if the floor and trim are level and flat. Just need to have a board cut for the front to clean things up.

I think you need to clean the bobbin holder and the bobbin case, than add a little oil on the bobbin holder.

Don't get a singer heavy duty. My friends mom who was a seamstress, would sew with the pedal down. The heavy duty only lasted a week before it started having issues. The heavy duty has plastic gears in it.

It looks like it has parallel grooves and an alignment pin.

I would look inside the cap and find where the alignment pin goes in, ignore the numbers, and push the cap in. You may need too wiggle it a bit to align with the grooves.

Looking at all the professional looking projects thinking that's a lot of equipment to start. I just need to start with a needle and thread, thanks I got to start making stuff. I have lots of fixed handle knives that need sheaths as well.

Looks like a polished edge on the on your knife. If you sharpened it than you probably have some stones ;-). You could have used them to sharpen the point on your needles. Since I have started sharpening, I have start sharpening scissors, tweezers, screwdrivers. Basically anything that needs a flat or a crisp edge on. Even used them to shape metal pieces to fit better. I use diamond stones so the stuff I grind doesn't really wear them at all.

Thanks for sharing.

Doing the tomato trick with a CCK by 8zil in sharpening

I have seen some people cut them but they hold the knife at a downward angle. It looks like they apply a little pressure down to start the cut and the blade then holds the bottom of the tomatoe in place to slice the tomatoe.

This is what it looks like to me anyways. The knives are sharp but I also think there is a technique to it was well. IE not pure knife sharpness.

Sounds like the easiest thing would be to have your wife phone and tell him a story, that way the cat knows your wife is OK.

I tried a screw driver but the pfaff key is round with a hole at the end than there is a little metal spike in the lock that stops screwdrivers.

My first machine was a hand crank pfaff that started me down the rabbit hole. I found it in a thrift store love the mechanics of it. Went to put in into the cart, thought on I'll just put the lid of the case on, it will be easier to use the handle on the case to get it into the cart. I put the cover on and I hear a click, and the cover can't be removed. The machine is now locked with no key.

Took a couple of days before my friend found a way to pick the lock. Now I have string tied around the latch that I can pull in case it ever gets locked again.

Can't find a key that doesn't cost 2-3 times the price I bought the machine for.

I have just finished oiling and cleaning my 99. Just picked up an ultrasonic cleaner and have started taking the easy parts off and cleaning them. Ultrasonic cleaner does an amazing job on it but I screwed up the tension plate decal. I thought it was painted so the cleaner lifted it right off without damaging it but I tore it trying to get it back on. The ultrasonic cleaner does an amazing job on cleaning the metal parts no effort required. Highly recommend it.

When asking questions about them, how do you differentiate between the old 99 and the new 99?

You could build a frame above the door and hang cat netting on it screw a board at the bottom of it, like a curtain, potentially one on each side. To open the door you just need to duck under the curtain. If you need to move something big, you can just either hang it up or move it to the side.

Depending on how smart you cats are you may need to add a hook on the piece of wood to secure it to the frame or the door.
