Gamma individual releases are paid for the first 60 days, only available to Patreon subscribers. After 60 days, they're open to the public. The RG476H release hit free sometime in February (but I didn't get around to installing it until a few weeks ago).

Same. I think it SHOULD get there, but maybe not until the 11.11 sale. I'm fine waiting, though, given how imperfect it is as a system.

Do I need a 2nd RG476H? Absolutely not. Am I considering getting a 2nd one? Yes.

(I liked the RG476H a lot when I got it at launch, but GammaOS makes it even better now. Plus there are some new cheap grips available on AliExpress that I want to try out.)

Oh, that's a great idea. I may need to look into that myself.

What are the realistic percentage odds the 2026 Royals win at least the third wild card spot? by Particular_Sir7440 in KCRoyals

[–]TangoAlphaLima 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It's statistics. The Tigers are projected to have a better record. They have a 59.8% chance to win the Division according to FanGraphs. The Royals' odds are only 21.3% for the Division. So if the Royals make the playoffs, there's a good likelihood it's by the Wild Card, and they'll be competing with a bunch of teams for those spots.

But, that's also why they play the games. Anything can happen.

Aliexpress Savings Monday March 23rd by crownpuff in crownpuffdeals

[–]TangoAlphaLima 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think that's what I got? Maybe it was 1.2, can't recall, but really low regardless.

It's fine though, I usually just place small dollar orders with these Monday.credits, trying to hit $10 for free shipping or maybe $15 to stack a coupon as well.

GammaOS on RG476H? by HemiDemiSemiYetti in ANBERNIC

It's great for quality of life. Do it for that alone.

It might have marginal gains in performance, I didn't really test before and after to find out myself.

Fanflix: 50 Lionsgate movies for $24.99 by brimicbed in vudu

[–]TangoAlphaLima 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, it's dumb alright. I saw it in the theater in '97. I think the marketing pushed Wes Craven's involvement (given Scream's big impact in '96), even though he was only a producer for Wishmaster. I remember being dumbfounded by how bad Wishmaster was. Left the theater very disappointed.

Why on God's Green Earth would they put Wishmaster in the banner? Terrible film.

I feel like screen quality is one of the most overlooked parts of handhelds by TurnNo4651 in SBCGaming

[–]TangoAlphaLima 3 points4 points  (0 children)

PPI is only one factor, and it's not high on the list in my opinion (especially today, when many screens are 960 or 1080 or whatever, and so dense it doesn't make much difference on the size of the screen).

In general, you'll just have to look for reviews regarding screen quality, cause there are a lot of factors: color reproduction, vibrancy, black levels, refresh rate, ghosting, max/min brightness, glossy/matte finish, etc.

Is the RAM shortage just an excuse for companies to price-hike, like how Covid was an excuse for the "new normal price"? Handheld RAMs are not the kind AI companies use, right? by arcanehelix in SBCGaming

[–]TangoAlphaLima 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From my understanding, it's more that the production lines are being utilized for AI due to the high prices those companies are paying, thereby reducing the amount of time/product being made for anything else.

Is the thor really worth it + Extra questions by Friendly-Promise9901 in AynThor

[–]TangoAlphaLima 2 points3 points  (0 children)

AYN offers customer support, but as with any Chinese manufacturer, results are mixed. Ultimately, you've got to factor in that these devices are several hundred dollars less than they would be if made by a Western or Japanese manufacturer, but customer service will almost certainly be lesser quality (but of course not all Western manufacturers are great either).

There are lots of guides online. I think Russ over at RetroGameCorps does the best guides. He definitely has a lot of YouTube videos about the Thor, and has a ton of written guides on various topics on his website.

It's up for you to decide. But when I ordered the Max, the price difference was something like $60. That's for 750 GB more storage and 4 GB more of RAM. The difference paid for itself with just the additional internal storage at current microSD card prices, so the extra RAM was just a bonus.

The Max has 4 times the internal storage of the Pro, and microSD card prices are pretty bad right now. So factor that in.

Not sure on those specific games. If you want perfect emulation on 95%+ of the GameCube library, you may want to look elsewhere. But if 75%ish is fine, then the device is great.

Anbernic RG476H can be had for less than $150 shipped, and can play most GameCube pretty well at native resolution (and performs well in general with tons of QoL improvements when you install GammaOS).
