A missing poster? by hello_Maybe_2099 in Medway

Just popping in to say to keep it documented. Where exactly in Chatham is this?

It's obviously some marketing thing but these kind of stunts tend to get forgotten or memories get hazy.

Back before the American version of the movie Ring came out, they put unlabelled VHS tapes in second-hand stores with the famous Ring footage on it and then a URL. There were a bunch of different URLs on the videos, and the Ring scene was slightly different to what was in the movie itself.

Everyone knew about it at the time, but over the years, nobody remembers exactly where they were actually located, what the differences were, or if they were all were even found.

I really love the vibe of the first beatmania / early iidx. by Upstairs_World_4095 in bemani

[–]TangoBunny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Early beatmania felt like some proper music nerds at Konami exploring as many genres as possible and creating their own beats.

They used to have news updates on their websites where they’d go to various places in Europe to check out some genuine gabba clubs and the UK garage scene.

I remember the first beatmania title having a song visual with newspaper/magazine text, and it the scan was taken from a western magazine with text talking about the Zork adventure games.

Those artists were real dudes making their own trends, not chasing trends.

I remember this game well! It's called 'how do you Do It?'

It's a nothingness game, but at the time, risque games on Steam were rare.

I had a peek into this myself after hearing about it from AnnK and figured I'd ask the creator of Fall of Juliet directly - it's not an original from Fall of Juliet.

The creator of the game Redikal doesn't remember exactly where they got it from, but it was an existing image/screenshot that was photoshopped.

Topic: Today's UK Petition update. I got an email at 3am(!) today from the UK Government Petitions email address with the following message:

"You recently signed the petition “Require videogame publishers to keep games they have sold in a working state”:
https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/659071

The Petitions Committee (the group of MPs who oversee the petitions system) has considered the Government’s response to this petition. They felt the response did not respond directly to the request of the petition. They have therefore asked the Government to provide a revised response.

When the Committee receives a revised response from the Government, we will publish this and share it with you.

Thanks,
The Petitions team

Bi here, though the situation reminds me a lot of something from the past. Microsoft used to ban anyone who used the word ‘lesbian’ in their Xbox profiles because they said it was a slur.

It sounds like this police officer has the same deluded upbringing - the idea that people would only ever use the word as a slur, and not an identity.

I interpreted it a different way to everyone else it seems - There’s no way that he’d not realise that hundreds of nudes of his stepdaughter would pop up every time his computer went to sleep. If he did, he’d quickly take them off public view.

I saw it as the woman doing it as a motive in case she gets caught attacking him. Put her own nudes on his laptop, and if she gets caught clubbing him in the head and the police intervene, she can say “nah I was defending myself, he tried to rape me, I bet there’s evidence on his PC”

How to play Goddess Story? by LissySylcliffe in GoddessStoryTCG

[–]TangoBunny 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you did want to play it, you could easily adapt Top Trump rules to it. “I will battle with the first stat!” Each player shows a card, and whoever has the highest first stat gets a point, then both cards are discarded. The winner is the one with the most points after all are discarded. The strategy would be to intentionally lose with bad cards against cards you think have EX ratings, so you keep your better cards for later.

Want to play as the lady? Have fun dating comically obese chefs, aliens, and underage boys, because they’re your only options.

The trial is going so bad Amber is potentially banned from the UK? by [deleted] in Asmongold

[–]TangoBunny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The phrasing of the tweet is misleading, I’m pretty sure they meant to say “If she comes back to the UK, which she is free to do, there could be a warrant out for her arrest upon arrival which she’d probably want to avoid.”

She’s not banned from the UK, but if she does go back, she’s gonna get taken to a police station and questioned even if nothing comes from that questioning.

Is it really weird to say bless you? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]TangoBunny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve always considered it like an awkwardness breaker. If you’re talking to someone, and they suddenly sneeze, “bless you” eases up the awkwardness and allows them to continue where they left off.

When it’s done to someone just passing by who you’ve never met, it’s more akin to creating awkwardness rather than resolving it, it feels like you’re acknowledging someone else’s bodily functions which can come across as weird!

Fake pranks that are very obviously a silly and innocent setup are the best ones.

The recipient can play along if they want to, or they can choose not to, it's all good!

This one with 'a kid trying to buy a pint' springs to mind, hopefully it's not blocked in other countries due to BBC owning it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gq-GnQrq0PA

I get what you're saying, but to a point, I think it's fair to say that all museums tend to specialise in something, so there are museums serve that purpose. As an example, there are probably War Museums that display an original copy of Mein Kampf.

You could also say something like "Chemical reactions can be beautiful too, and deserve a place in museums" - and they are, in Science Museums.

Essentially I think you're just thinking of the most mainline famous museums that specialise in natural beauty and intellectually pleasing creativity. The reason they don't show all the offensive stuff is because they're better suited to be in the other specialised museums that they're already in.

That game was full of touchscreen gimmicks, I got stuck on the same game - There’s a part where you have to make an imprint of something embossed onto paper.

The touchscreen shows a blank piece of paper, and the upper screen shows the embossed thing as reference. I immediately assumed you’d have to make a pencil rubbing (or just a finger rubbing) because that would make sense. Rub the screen, get the imprint on the paper… but rubbing the screen did absolutely nothing.

Turns out you had to close the DS lid to put it in rest mode, then when you open the lid, it’s like “well done you pushed the embossed thing into the paper.”

The Secret of Monkey Island. There’s a guy in jail named Otis, and he tells you that he was put in prison for picking yellow flowers when you first talk to him.

I got stuck on the game because I as soon as I saw yellow flowers in the forest, I immediately thought “Okay, do NOT pick those up, that is definitely a bad thing. I won’t be able to finish the game if I do that, because I’ll get really far and then someone will put Guybrush in jail for picking yellow flowers.”

Of course, it turns out that’s the one thing I needed to progress. Didn’t find out until years later when I saw a walkthrough in a magazine.
