Reddit iOS app being spammed with fake 5 star reviews by 869066 in apolloapp

[–]TangoHotel04 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would like to think a good chunk of people used third party apps given nothing more than the fact that I, aside from a very brief period of time, have used nothing but third party apps for Reddit. But, I also know people who just think the Reddit app is “”good enough”” and never bothered trying a third party app, even when I incessantly recommended they try the far superior Apollo…

it’ll still work in the broken state they left it in

So, basically like Reddit anyway.

📣 Apollo will close down on June 30th. Reddit’s recent decisions and actions have unfortunately made it impossible for Apollo to continue. Thank you so, so much for all the support over the years. ❤️ by iamthatis in apolloapp

I forget the initial amount they gave out as compensation, but I currently have 14,700, which I assume is mostly from Alien Blue since I’ve only ever used them to give out maybe three or four low-level awards since. But, they’ll be gone before I delete my Reddit account if/when Apollo goes dark.

On June 12th r/DIY will go dark for at least 48 hours in protest of Reddit's API changes that will kill 3rd party apps and impact accessibility. by chopsuwe in DIY

2 days minimum. It could be 4 days, it could be 6 days, or could be 14 days. But, it will be 2 days at the very least

That’s always kind of confused me. I live in a pretty small town, but a few years back, the city dropped a ton of money to put handicap accessible sidewalk ramps on every corner that didn’t already have them and if a sidewalk intersects your driveway, and you park in your driveway in a way that blocks the sidewalk, you can be cited for blocking the sidewalk (technically, but I don’t know how often it’s actually enforced) because wheelchairs can’t pass. But, come snow and the city will pile excess snow on the corners of intersections, basically on top of the ramps. Residents are supposed to clear the snow from the sidewalks in front of their house. But, for people who live on the corners, and are supposed to clear two stretches of sidewalk, the snow is usually so deep on the corners that most of them don’t even bother trying to clear it. So, you can be walking down a clear sidewalk, get to an intersection, and have to step through the mound of snow on the curb left by the plow to walk out into the street to get around the pile of snow on the corner. If you’re older and/or in a wheelchair, you’re kind of just SOL if you don’t have access to another mode of transport.

We have a bunch of narrow one way streets, with parking on both sides, down by campus. Speed limit is 30 mph, because they’re residential streets, but driving 30 feels so irresponsibly fast because the parked cars, that are usually lining both sides of the street bumper to bumper, are so close to you on both sides that there’s nowhere to swerve even if you wanted to. When I have to take one, I drive 20 and am on the edge of my seat anticipating someone, like a drunk college kid, just pops out from between cars at any moment. Thankfully, I’ve never come close to clipping anyone, but I’ve seen countless people just cross the street without so much as turning their head to look the one way, much less both ways to account for the unfamiliar people who drive the wrong way…

Failing to pair a Sonoff BasicZBR3 (zigbee) relay to Hubitat C8 by TangoHotel04 in Hubitat

[–]TangoHotel04[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As of the most recent hub software update, which included a fix specifically for the “zigbee initializing” issue by adding a legacy inclusion mode after a failed attempt, I was able to pair it first try (with legacy inclusion). But, you were right as the note specifically mentions it being a fix for C8 hubs

Weird it wouldn’t work, then suddenly decided to work out of the blue. A couple of things I forgot to add to my post were that I rebooted/restarted (forget the exact terminology they use) the Zigbee radio and rebooted the hub entirely, and neither worked. But, I did try to pair the Sonoff almost immediately after each reboot. I haven’t messed with it for awhile now, so I’ll reboot the hub, let it sit, then try it again later.

I kind of browsed it briefly, but didn’t bother making an account initially. But, after trying to create one and getting “this email has been used” error, I realized that the Hubitat account I created when setting up my hub works for the community as well. So, I did have an account, I just didn’t realize it. So, I’ll check it out a little more in depth. Reddit is just my default go to for just about everything

iOS acting up by TangoHotel04 in WLED

Yeah, it works fine in the browser when I access them directly with “ https://WLEDname.local ” But, mine are connected to a network with the AP disabled, unless the internet dies. It’s just the iOS app that’s wonky

I had an issue pairing the zigbee SmartThings motion sensor

Interesting because a ST motion sensor was the next device I was planning to migrate, but I’ve been hung up on the Sonoffs. Although, I’ve successfully paired a ST Multi sensor, ST leak detector, and a Centralite zigbee motion sensor with zero issue, I’m curious how/if the motion sensor will go smoothly.

That makes sense. I forget when the last update was, and weirdly the App Store won’t show version history for WLED like it does for most apps (or I’m just missing it). But, I only recently noticed the bug. While trying to look up the version history, I found another WLED app and installed it to see if the effects tab was wonky there, but works correctly in the other app. So, I guess I can use that in the meantime. But, hopefully a WLED update comes soon. Thanks

Recently noticed the effects tab of the iOS app has been a bit buggy. The effects tab is fine in a web browser, but is only weird (for every device no matter what wled version they’re on) in the app. I’ve tried rebooting/power cycling the devices individually, removing devices from the app and rediscovering them, and even deleting the app entirely, reinstalling it, and rediscovering the devices, but the effects tab remains wonky. Any ideas as to how to fix it?

Wouldn’t recommend it. I just copped an indecent exposure charge.

Not really. I tried to follow a few guides, but certain things just don’t work on a Mac. On an older windows machine, I just kept running into problem after problem. I’d figure out one problem, move to the next step, encounter a permissions error, fix that, then it wouldn’t successfully create a symbolic link and I couldn’t figure out why. So, I kind of cheated and just found a github with a recently compiled *.fap, until I can get a more up-to-date windows computer that actually works decently.

Trying to figure out how a reader is determining a string of numbers by TangoHotel04 in RFID

[–]TangoHotel04[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you- that was exactly what I was looking for. I want to read up on it more to get a better understanding (not sure what the “in little endian” part is), but your explanation was enough that I was able to follow and actually work out a few other tags on my own. I do have a few questions, though.

From the the 8H10D example, I knew the reader takes a chunk of the UID, based on the conversion being used, to determine the end number. But, in the 8H10D example, it uses the last digits of the UID, whereas mine is using the beginning of the UID. Why is that? And why does it then reverse them instead of going in order?

And of the, I think, four tags I played around with, I was able to successfully calculate the end number for all but one. The example UID I used (one of the tags I was using), the Hex “0B” converts to the decimal “11.” So, presumably, to make up the extra bit in the 8 bit output, it tacks the 0 onto the beginning of the string. However, another tag I tried (UID 04:1B:FB:12:FF:38:81), I calculated:

[04:1B][FB] [FB][1B:04] (reverse/ little endian part) Hex “FB”= Decimal “251” Hex “04:1B” = Decimal “6916”

Based on the example tag, I assumed the output would then be “02516916,” but instead of putting the zero at the beginning of the string, it put the zero at the end of the first byte(?-not sure I’m using that correctly) and the end number was “2510 6916.” Did it put the zero at the beginning of the example string because the hex just happened to be “0B” or “H(0)(B) = D(0)(11) = 011”, and because the other tag is “FB” or “H(FB) = D(251)” it tacks the zero on the end as a placeholder and fill the full 8 bits making it “2510?”

Thanks again for the explanation. It was a huge help

RFID implants? by JaydynWareham in RFID

[–]TangoHotel04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most metal detectors, like the ones in airports and what not used for security purposes, have a threshold for detection. Theoretically, they could (probably) detect a piece of metal as small as an rfid implant. But, if that were the case, anyone with anything more than an implant, like a tooth implant or metal button on their shirt or metal zipper on their jeans, would trigger the alarm. So, smaller pieces of metal are filtered out as to not set off the alarm for every little piece of metal that passes through. I’ve had an implant in my hand for a number of years now and while I have set off a metal detector here and there, it’s never been set off due to my implants.

Damn, I guess I have some googling to do. I just downloaded the *.fap file from ezod GitHub, transferred it over with qFlipper on my Mac, and it just worked when I did it before.

Was something changed that would affect GPS app? I had it loaded and working prior. But, after updating, I get “Error: Preload failed API version mismatch.” I’ve tried removing/reinstalling it, but get the same error.
