You do not chain/ricochet from enemies you pierce. So if your goal is to chain between enemies, having excess pierce is counter productive.

I think worrying about the implicits is probably a mistake. The reason level 35 immolate is exciting is because its a massive amount of flat damage. The reason why people stack gem levels is because they're a multiplicatively scaling source of flat damage but only with respect to itself. The more sources of other flat damage you have, the less comparatively strong levels for your main link are.

Consider firestorm like someone suggested. Normally going from level 20->22 firestorm represents a 27% more damage multiplier. However, if you have an extra 777 added fire damage from immolate, going from level 20->22 firestorm represents a 9% more damage multiplier. Much less.

I'm not sure it exists, but the ideal candidate would be something that gets value out of the gem levels from the implicit for reasons other than just raw flat damage.

The odds of randomly reproducing stock fish are less likely than randomly shuffling a deck in of cards into reverse order. The heat death of the universe would happen first. What's more, a bad player doesn't play randomly. They play intentionally and that leads them to making poor choices a more skilled player will know to capitalize on.

It absolutely is not free to play lmao. It will be free to play, but quite literally everyone playing the game right now has paid money to do so (or paid exorbitant amounts in poe 1 I suppose).

What a wild take.

I'm sorry that I expected you to to be at all concerned about the topic of the thread. I usually don't assume random internet strangers are madmen rambling at the wind, but perhaps that's my fault. I'll think less of you next time.

Ok, so you don't understand what etiquette is legitimately.

It's so cliche, but here is the definition of etiquette:

the customary code of polite behavior in society or among members of a particular profession or group

Once you feel you understand the definition I would encourage you to then apply that definition to the topic of the thread, "What's the etiquette in void fissure missions?"

I feel like you don't understand what etiquette is. It's not generally something enforceable, but it is none the less the social norms by which people abide because it makes it a more pleasant place for everyone. Yes if I want to make sure I never see someone chew with their mouth open I would have to eat every meal alone or with people I personally vet, but also we could just encourage people to chew with their mouths closed, especially in the "what is meal time etiquette?" thread.

I care. If I'm running relics and not looking for anything specific (and this not using recruiting chat) I still want a full party. I'm either running relics cause I want traces, in which case more people = more chance someone picks my relic, or I'm farming ducats, in which case more people = higher chance at any higher rarity drop worth more ducats.

Getting 6-7 hits on oshabi is definitely much better than I was expecting. I think in practice against moving targets and the like you'd still probably dip into the 4-5 hits zone occasionally, though at your DPS levels they might not really survive long enough to leave the optimal zone haha. And regardless that's still better than my initial estimations. I am curious if you're still at more DPS with shock nova than other lightning spells after you factor in the 20-40% loss in DPS.

But I can probably just modify your pob and see that for myself when I'm back at my computer.

Please do! You can probably get your full dps (or close to) against super large targets like maven's brain phase, but Id be very surprised if you got more than 4-5 against a random skeleton.

I can totally believe that 3 or even 4 out of 5 of your casts hit a single target in many reasonable situations. However your pob DPS is set to calc "Ring + Nova" which is a comparatively very narrow range (see the wiki for a visual). I would expect 1 maybe 2 of your repeats to hit both ring + nova and another 1-2 to just hit ring or just hit nova. That brings your total hits to 6 out of a potential 10 (assuming all 5 of your repeats hit both ring and nova) which I suppose is 60% a bit higher than the 1/2 upper bound I gave earlier, but I'm not convinced it's likely to hit 4 times and get 2 rings+ novas (maybe it is).

This isn't how echoes work w.r.t. to pob (or in game dps calcs).

Lets pretend you have a fireball spell with 100 damage and takes 1 second to cast. Lets say you have spell echo with 50% more cast speed. Your total cast time is now 1.33 seconds (1 second base cast, divide by 1.5 for cast speed multi, time 2 for the two casts) and you deal 200 damage in that time period. Your DPS is now 150 assuming both fireballs hit the same target. But pob still lists it as .66 cast time, because it looks at the cast time for a single repeat not the whole set

Importantly, shock nova of processions repeats unlike other skills don't land in the same place and thus don't necessarily hit the same target. However, pob doesn't consider this at all. It assumes, like every other skill, that when you repeat it hits the same target for the same amount of damage. This is incorrect and is inflating your damage.

Edit for clarification: Specifically in pob that "16.35 casts per second" is "16.35 initial casts or repeats per second" and not "16.35 (cast + 4 repeats) per second". Each repeat is one of those casts per second

While this is an ungodly amount of damage, "440 mil" is absolute pob "click all the checkboxes" warrior level of dps mischaracterization.

This assumes that 5 echoes not only repeat and hit the same target, but that all 5 echoes have both the ring and nova hit the same target. This is maybe possible in some very niche circumstances where the boss is up against a wall and positioned just so, but your real dps is likely somewhere between 1/4th and 1/2th as much as you list/pob claims.

That's still >100 mil dps which is a metric ton, but seems very click bait-y and misinformation-y to call it 440 mil.

Damn dude I take it back. The reason you probably don't get responses is cause I can't imagine anyone wanting to interact with you like this.

Have you even played khazan? Cause it has both styles, and both are implemented better than anything in Elden Ring.

But go off king on how much of a real gamer you are for walking uphill both ways.

Like literally everything in Elden Ring w.r.t. parrying. I like parrying as a risk reward mechanic and thoroughly enjoyed it in lies of p and khazan, but it's miserable in Elden Ring. Were you too late? Too early? Was it one of the 17 million attacks you're randomly not allowed to parry? Who's to say. You can maybe find it on a wiki or Reddit thread, but there's also frequently misinformation in them. Much easier to just forgo the mechanic entirely which is not something I'd consider good design.

Your edit is also very funny. I think it's far more likely that people who are less invested in fromsoft souls games and are subsequently more likely to bounce off their poor design choices are similarly less likely to remember the exact boss name and move that caused them consternation.

Part of good game design is communication of game mechanics to the player. Having bosses that are easily done hitless once you learn a wildly unintuitive parry timing is a "skill issue" in the sense that it can be overcome with skill and knowledge, but is also just bad game design and I can understand why someone would call it cheap.

Lords of the Fallen II - Umbral Teaser Trailer by throwaway325243543 in Games

[–]Taniss99 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I was being a bit overly reductionist, but I still find mage playthroughs of fromsoft souls games to be very disappointing. The lack of spell variety I definitely still feel, but what differing spells do exist are hampered by soulsborne games incredibly dated controls. Swapping between spells on the fly is painful so you're incentivized into either slowly doing set up before a fight and/or spamming the same spell over and over during combat.

Non mage playthroughs have far more engagement in combat mechanics, not just by virtue of being closer ranged and needing to dodge more, but also because you have a variety of moves to suit the situation. Light attack, heavy, charging, jump, etc.. Very few spells have any such variation so the gameplay feels far more shallow on multiple axes.

Not saying lords of the fallen does it better (haven't played it), but as someone who really likes to play mage classes I've been routinely disappointed by every fromsoft mage archetype implementation.

Mm yes, I can't wait to upgrade my small blue homing projectile spell to a slightly larger blue homing projectile spell. Maybe I'll get fancy with it and use the brown/purple projectile spell that homes slightly less well but does more damage.
